The property itself is quite stunning. It literally looks like it came straight out of a movie and every little detail has been polished to perfection. It feels almost unworldly to walk up to the building and up the stairs and down the hallways. In every sense you can feel the history of the place and be blown away by the colossally high ceilings and amazing light fixtures and woodwork. We had a very lovely stay there and everything was quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was a nice touch, and although very basic, I did not expect it at a hotel of this caliber so that was nice. Usually the nicer the hotel, the less that is provided for free so any breakfast was a surprising extra. Location of the hotel is quite convenient to Buffalo and many great restaurants and the Navy Park, which was really fun to walk around.
WiFi was pretty poky (8-10 Mb/S) but usable.

The reno of the property is well done and very much keeps the historical appeal rather than new and modern everywhere. Loved the outside winter market. The bar and food was very good. Also greatly appreciated the lower level museum.
Room was appropriately furnished, although the coffee cabinet, desk, and desk chair were quite sad looking (all had water damage and/or stains). We could never get our thermostat to work so we were cold most of the time. And it appeared there was a vent fan in the bathroom, but we never found a switch to operate one (so perhaps there is no fan at all). It would also be nice if there were "do not disturb" signs available to alert housekeeping.

A very beautiful castle! Literally a castle, feel like real prince and princess. quite and enjoyable.
The check - in time is set at 4:00 pm, which I understand is for unified management in line with hotel policies. However, a more human - centered approach could be considered. When a guest arrives before 4 pm and the room is already available, it seems unreasonable to make the guest wait. After a long - haul flight of dozens of hours, I managed to persuade the staff to let me check in early, but I believe the hotel could be more accommodating in such situations.

We absolutely loved this hotel - it was so beautiful and felt luxurious without a luxury price. The very high ceilings and windows made our small room feel large. The architecture was enthralling and we spent some time just wandering the hotel to enjoy it. The museum on the first floor is open 24 hours and was really neat!
Oddly, our shower curtain was hung too high and so water went everywhere onto the bathroom floor. There was at least a 6” gap between the bottom of the shower curtain, and the top of the tub, and it curved outward so even if the water only hit the curtain and ran down, it went into the floor instead of the tub.

The Richardson Hotel was an architectural gem, rich in history and significance. Its stunning design and intricate details made it a breathtaking sight, while its past told a fascinating story of elegance and transformation. Learning about its history was both enlightening and captivating, offering a glimpse into a bygone era of grandeur. The pictures captured how it once stood in all its glory, showcasing its beautiful craftsmanship and timeless charm, preserving its legacy for generations to appreciate.

The property is so unique especially being that it is an old psychiatric hospital. When you go in it’s really cool to see all the before and after pictures of the property. The staff was super welcoming and did their best to accommodate everything we needed. There is a cute little bar there also!
Only negative about the property is when we originally got there the front desk manager assigned us our room and when we went to open the door we quickly realized that room we were assigned was occupied by other people. So we immediately shut the door and went to get another room. The room we were given had two twin beds, which is extremely small if you’re traveling as a couple.

I absolutely loved the restoration of the building. They added modern aspects such as the beautiful bathroom and elevators, but I loved that they tried to keep the same look and feel of the hospital. The high ceilings in our room were really impressive I was definitely impressed by the grounds. The staff were amazing. The breakfast was great, fresh and delicious. They had frittatas one morning with pancakes. The next morning were scrambled eggs and pancakes. There was granola, yogurt and a variety of pastries. Coffee was always fresh. I really loved that they had fresh coffee in the lobby as well as lemon water.
Parking was somewhat limited. Over labor day weekend, there was a jazz festival held behind the hotel, and people were parked at the hotel lot. We couldn't find parking. They should enforce this a little better, perhaps a parking tag issued for the hotel guests and signs indicating that parking is for hotel guests only. The neighborhood is to be desired. If you were coming in from the art gallery section, it's great! But if you took a wrong turn a block away, there are some sketchy looking homes...... so walk over towards the art gallery..... :)

The location couldn't be beat. Staying at a historic hotel on a college campus when the students were gone for the summer was a kick. Situated perfectly between Buffalo happenings and Niagara Falls. Walking distance to the art museum and great neighborhood coffee shops! Ate at the Cocina in the hotel one night. The waitstaff at the bar were very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. Had an amazing pork belly and the best tiramisu I've ever head. Highly recommend.
The A/C / temp control in my room was out so it was a bit stifling. Soldiered through due to Midwest nice tendencies and the temperate weather, but the windows didn't open so by the third night I was kind of over it. My own fault for not asking to be moved to a different room. Just a heads up for anyone who needs windows that open!

The hotel has such an interesting history that we had to stay here! What a beautiful and remarkable renovation! We walked around the interior and took tons of photos and the exterior perimeter. The person at the desk was knowledgeable and friendly. Our room was lively. The large windows are awesome! I can't say enough good things about it and would stay here again! The restoration is magnificent. They left exposed columns and other areas which was super cool. We took tons of photos. It was only about 15 minutes to the airport. Good location. Bed was quite comfortable. I think all of the signage was helpful in such a large facility. The small museum downstairs was agreat addition and quite interesting.
Really nothing that we did not like. Wished there was a mini fridge in the room. It was a Monday night and the bar restaurant was not open. Hotel was quiet. Someone in a review said they heard road noise but we did not. There was a random noise that we heard intermittently like a loud buzzing that was annoying and would have been hard to sleep but they allowed us to change our room.

What an incredible building and what an interesting piece of history. I was really excited to stay at this hotel and it did not disappoint. It has been restored lovingly and lavishly and is very comfortable. We had to leave early morning and didn't get a chance to sample food or drinks, so can't comment on that.
It would have been nice if the staff member at reception had been a bit more customer-focused - ie we asked if we could get some coffee or pastries to go when we left (just prior to breakfast time) and she just flatly said 'No.'.
