We had a lovely 1 night stay at the Ragged Cot. The staff were friendly and professional, nice room with toasty heating, very comfortable bed and a fantastic waterfall shower. We reserved a table for dinner which we both thoroughly enjoyed, they've got a great Chef in the kitchen. The convenience of strolling to the comfort of our room after a satisfying meal was genuine bliss. To top it off the included breakfast was delicious too. We were expecting something fairly basic but got a hearty full English and eggs Benedict which kept us going for most of the day!

Whilst checking in it became apparent another guest was complaining about a noisy room and asking to be moved. We think our allocated room may have also been shuffled whilst trying to keep the peace. By the evening our heavy-footed neighbours upstairs had arrived, we soon realised some very squeaky floorboards were separating us and not much else! Unfortunately the noise did disturb our sleep a bit, but what can you do? It's an old building and the hosts don't have much control over the gentility of their guests. But beware, the walls and ceilings are thin.

The Ragged Cot is in a great location on top of a hill, surrounded by common land, with cattle grazing and wandering freely. The hotel is quite quirky, reputedly haunted but the rooms and dining areas are great. The evening meal was surprising and i can understand why they have an AA rosette for their food. My chicken burger did not look big but looks are deceptive as i very nearly didn't finish it. The breakfast was just as good with a reasonably extensive selection of continental and hot food. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

The radiator in the bathroom is very close to the toilet, so i had to be quite careful as it was very hot. Otherwise everything was great.

The whole experience was really good - the team were all very friendly & kind. The whole venue is stunning, it feels modern but with a good, interesting history to it. We spent quite a bit of time having drinks in the stunning beer garden, it was quiet as it was a week day , but both my boyfriend & I commented on how amazing the vibes must be at the weekend when it is busy. The room was great, a good size with a good closet & other storage options. Bed was huge, cosy & super comfy. We had a good nap after we arrived, then slept super well the whole night through. Food was pretty good, we had dinner & breakfast here. So many options for both sittings, & the food was tasty & served quickly. I can see how this would be a gorgeous venue for a wedding or special function.

The only real constructive feedback I have is that when we were leaving in the morning, there was noone around to check out to. I hung around for a good 15 minutes, even walked around the venue looking for someone , & there was no one to be found! This was at the check out time of 11am, so it was strange to not have someone see us off at all.

Location, staff all fine. Breakfast was good. Accommodation was good, large double bed very comfortable. We were on the ground floor. Bathroom facilities were good, spacious and kept clean. Hot water plentiful.

Evening meals in our experience were not 4 star. My partner had a beefburger one evening which was red, as in not cooked properly inside. Cutlery and plates tended to stick to tables, giving the impression they, the tables weren't cleaned properly. Occasional noise from floor above of people walking around., we were in a ground floor room.

The location was beautiful and accommodation was everything you would expect from a country pub. The rooms were clean, bed comfortable and food exceptional.

We unfortunately stayed during a heatwave (35c on day or arrival), and our room was unbearably hot. It was honestly hotter inside than it was outside. The fan provided was awful and provided no relief whatsoever. I understand we can not control the effects of the weather, but investing in better quality fans would have made the entire experience a lot more pleasant. I think I slept for about two hours because it was too hot in the room and wanted to leave as soon as possible in the morning just to get some air. The pipes ran underneath our room, so it felt like we had underfloor heating on constantly, which just added to the whole sauna experience. Having said all of that, I would definitely stay again...Just not in a heatwave!

Excellent breakfast and dinners

Table surfaces in dining room are sticky and off putting. I think this is caused by the type of spray used to clean them. Ventilation in the bathroom of room 4 is poor. Cause is a faulty extraction fan which needs to be replaced. Window locks on ground floor window were not operational, they need to be fixed and key supplied if you want to open them. Sound insulation between bedrooms and one floor to the one above is poor - ideally this needs attention but was not a big problem.

Hotel room was spacious and bed was extremely comfortable. Staff in the hotel and restaurant where brilliant and very welcoming. The food was also fantastic and loved sitting in the terrace to eat breakfast whilst the weather was gorgeous. The location is brilliant and is within a 15 minute drive of supermarkets. Also plenty of free parking space which a lot of hotels don't offer nowadays.

Room became extremely stuffy in the hot weather and with there being no air conditioning, it become difficult to sleep. Shower also kept flooding so every time I showered, I had to reduce the pressure coming out to prevent it flooding.

This place is a great base for exploring the surrounding area, with some lovely places to visit nearby such as Nailsworth, Tetbury and Stroud. This is our second stay at the Ragged Cot, the staff are always welcoming and polite and the accomodation is exceptional value for money. Food in the restaurant is excellent along with a good range of drinks to choose from at the bar. Weekdays have a discount on meals and there were two for one cocktails from eleven until seven in the evening. Happy days! All in all I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Ragged Cot.

Nothing not to like. Really great place to stay.

Great accommodation, friendly staff, great evening meal, wonderful breakfast, one of the best cooked breakfast I've had, excellent sausage! Good supply of tea & coffee in the room & nice shower gel and body lotion. And a lovely comfy bed & decent towels which smelt lovely & fresh.

Minor annoyance of the floor above creaking but luckily didn't go on for long, grouting on the shower floor could do with a little bleach treatment.

Excellent value for money, great breakfast, friendly staff, delicious food

No one at reception when we arrived. We had to ask for someone to come to reception. It didn’t take too long. It seemed chaotic at the time with furniture being moved around. Maybe we came at the wrong time but there should always be someone manning reception. Our main courses took over an hour to come. The staff were serving a big group and we didn’t have any choice but to wait. They gave us some peanuts for free but they should have taken service off the bill. Delicious food but small portions so we felt relatively expensive.
