Nice accommodation in the middle of town, well located to walk to downtown and Barrio Escalante. We felt safe, but we were there without a car. The hotel garden is green and quiet, the staff very nice. What we liked the most was the rich and varied breakfast!

As good as the grounds, staff and breakfast were: We didn't particularly like our room as it was inside to the hallways and close to the reception. It was very dark, stuffy and warm (but had a fan) and you could hear everything from outside. The bathroom could use renovation, the furnishings were rather rustic and simple, though spacious. It was okay for 1-2 nights. We would give the room a "6", everything else a "10".

Quirky hotel with lots of traditional items on display. Lots of little quiet spots to relax in. Friendly staff. Lovely area for breakfast which was delicious. Very clean. Restaurant was top class. Easy walking distance to downtown and plenty of restaurants close by.

On arrival I was asked to pay in cash in US dollars, even though I had checked when booking transfer through the hotel If best currency to use was Costa Rican or dollars and had been told local. The night receptionist was not prepared to accept Costa Rican cash (which Is what I had prepared) and told me there was a surcharge for card payment. The room I was in had no window to open No1 and no fan or aircon so was very hot. I saw other rooms (as they leave doors open when not occupied, presumably to allow air to circulate) and these had open windows which would have been much more comfortable.

I have been going to this hotel since I was a kid, and to this day, it is my favorite. For being in the middle of the city, it is full of nature. I love the cozy vibes, and all of the gardens. The breakfast is my favorite. I love to sit on the beautiful terrace enjoying my breakfast watching the squirrels and birds. And not to mention how tasty the food is. Always excellent service. To this day, it is my favorite place to stay in the city. I do want to give a huge shoutout to the staff. There was an issue with a guest causing a bit of a scene that disrupted the breakfast for the other guests. The staff handled it very well. With a lot of respect, but also very firm. It was very impressive.

There is nothing negative to say for this stay.

Beautiful artwork throughout and serene garden areas, nice seating in multiple common areas. Fabulous breakfast included, great coffee etc and Elsa was a delight each morning in the breakfast room, great breakfast team!

Pay in cash in U.S. dollars, or be “surcharged” if paying by credit card. The staff will convert quoted dollar totals for stays to colones using an inflated exchange rate and tell you that is just how they do business. Paying in cash avoids this. It’s a hidden fee. Not appreciated. Other businesses actually ask if you wish to charge in dollars or colones. Otherwise, all good.

Property consisted of rooms in 5 individual houses with courtyards for quite reading while waiting for transportation. My room was in the annex across the street, larger and I imagine quiter than in the main buildings. Wonderful breakfast! Great location next to Barrio Escalante for safe access to ATMs, walking, drinking, or eating any time.Take the stairs at the end of the street for a shortcut to the Spirogyra butterfly garden.

Really loved the mishmash feel of several buildings' worth of rooms connected together in a maze. The layers of maps and books and mismatched furniture and plants gave the whole place a lived-in sense of personality and charm that's hard to fake. Great little courtyard with plenty of hidden nooks and crannies to sit and read or have coffee and plan out your trip.

Ceiling in our room had a slight leak the night we stayed. We put out a vase under it and went on with our stay though.

There was great advisement from the proprietor about arrival to the hotel, and I was able to arrange for airport pick-up that worked out super well. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was in love with all the art and plants around the property. It really adds charm to the experience. The service from staff was great. The breakfast in the garden was lovely. The location was nice with cute cafes, a nice supermarket and other things in a walkable distance.

There was no A/C in the room, and my room was near an area where a lot of people walked by, but thankfully people were not too rowdy, so I didn't notice it too much.

We had a lovely one night stay at Hotel Aranjuez before flying out of San Jose the next day. The location was great for walking to some nearby restaurants. The facilities themselves are quite fun with the interesting decor, and the staff are very nice. Things to note for travelers: I paid in US dollars upon arrival. We had a car, and they were able to accommodate me with a parking spot in their gated parking area. Would 100% stay here again.

Breakfast was great, encountered first costa rican wildlife while eating made-to-order omelette. Quirky interior was refreshing in comparison to the many sterile, IKEA decorated hotels. Attached restaurant serves great food - fancy, but not over the top. Walking distance to other nice places to eat too. Staff are all very friendly, multilingual, and helpful. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the walls of our room were very thin. Some visitors had early (eaaaarly) flights, so every morning around 4-5am, we were woken up by rolling suitcases. If you're a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the central corridor and maybe bring earplugs.

We booked a room for a night in Aranjuez, but ended up staying 3. The place is magical. We loved quirkiness of it, unique decor, jungle growing inside, hidden cosy chairs, and the absolute highlight - breakfast area. The breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica. Its a buffet with a great selection of fruit, bread, cheese, ham, cakes, teas etc. Special compliments to the chef, who is making omelettes. They are nice, We watched amazing wildlife during dreakfast every time: squirrels, hummingbirds, butterflies, tropical birds of most amazing colours.
