We had scones on arrival in the restaurant & they were beautiful- other than that we didn't eat in the gateway lodge. We had a lovely roomy - motel style room on the ground floor, fabulous comfy beds & facilities -just a 5mins stroll into the Diamond of Donegal town! We found a lovely restaurant with excellent seafood options called Quay West in the town near the tourist information centre -& it was fabulous! We had breakfast in a lovely cafe the following morning before we left Donegal to travel further! The gateway lodge would be a brilliant place to explore further west & north from & I would definitely stay again if I get to go back that side of Ireland again

My partner and I recently stayed at The Gateway Lodge while attending a wedding at Harveys Point, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience. The location was ideal, just a short and easy 10-minute drive to the hotel. From the moment we arrived and were able to check in early, the staff were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. We had booked three rooms in total, and the price was fantastic – the best we found in the area. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and absolutely perfect for our needs. We couldn't have asked for a better base for our wedding weekend. Highly recommend The Gateway Lodge!

We had a great stay at The Gateway Lodge. Our room was really big and very clean. The hotel itself is a short walk into Donegal town making it a great base to explore Donegal county and surrounding areas. The breakfast was amazing and great value. We didn’t need the help of the staff too much but every staff member we spoke to was very helpful and polite. The only negative was that one night we could hear snoring from the room next door and people talking outside the room - no fault of the hotel but maybe consider earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Overall we had a fabulous stay and would definitely stay again in the future.

Great location just a 2 minute walk to the town centre, shops & restaurants/pubs & harbour. Large comfortable rooms (booked a triple for the space) Beds were excellent. Nice bathroom & shower including toiletries. Room had a kettle & tea/coffee. Flat screen TV. Free WiFi. Paid for breakfast - £12 per person each day - excellent choice of food & really tasty. Big car park

Sound from other guests !! The rooms above had constant noise of footsteps - the second night we had to ring the night porter & complain - such a shame that guests can't respect others !! 😕

We didn't choose to include breakfast but the restaurant/cafe on site was beautifully appointed and did a lovely variety of breakfasts and light meals. Big portions, freshly cooked and clearly highly rated by the towns people also. The location, just minutes from Donegal Town centre and historical sites, also couldn't have been more convenient for transport links via taxi and bus to local villages and Coach services to all major Irish cities.

The on site restaurant closes at 17.00 but that encouraged us to use other local venues which really are minutes away. In doing so we passed the local pubs many of which had live music which we were then tempted to enter!

Twin room which was warm and the beds were comfortable. I am used to a double bed so I found a single bed strange to sleep in. Otherwise the room was warm and cosy with adequate storage space and a well designed bathroom for the space available. It was great to have a motel type room adjacent to the main hotel, which afforded us the freedom to arrive back to the room without requiring access via the hotel reception. The location is great: literally a 2 minute walk to Donegal Town centre. Breakfast was extra at €12.50 a person but I feel it could have been included as the room was not cheap in comparison to other hotels that do supply a breakfast.

One minor issue was the low pressure in the water supply for the sink but this is typical for much of Donegal.

Lovely spacious room, nice bathroom with stepping shower , which was ideal for me as I have mobility issues .

I have mobility issues , there was only 1 disabled parking space available near the front door / reception area , ( which was occupied for the 2 days that I was there) The car parking areas are on several different levels & are very slanted & steep . I’m very surprised that is the situation bearing in mind the size of the property & the amount of rooms / accommodation it provides that there isn’t more disabled parking spaces.

Everything was Excellent. Staff, room, comfort, easy short walk to Donegal town, plenty of free parking. One of the best tastiest breakfasts on our whole trip in Ireland. Nice selection of food too. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The only thing that was weird was an older man that staffed the office at night. Not sure if this was an owner or what? I had one brief interaction with this man. Very evident he was out of place and had little to no customer communication skills. Seemed that he didn't want to be there?

Location was good with just a short walk into town. Parking was available on the premises - which was a must for us. Rooms were clean and the staff were very pleasant.

The bedroom itself was large with a lot of empty space but the bathroom was tiny. It would have been better if the bedroom was a little smaller and the bathroom a little bigger. I would still recommend the hotel, though. Access to some rooms require you to go up some stairs though most do not. So if you have accessibility issues you need to make sure the hotel provides you a suitable room. These comments aren't really "dislikes", just observations I'm making about the hotel.

Very comfortable bed and excellent shower. Convenient location both for Donegal Town and visiting West Donegal. Really welcoming reception staff who explained access very thoroughly and was reassuring about availability of night staff also.

Not much space for luggage in room. Room is a little dark because of the overhang due to access via an external walkway. The latter might not appeal to everyone as it felt a bit exposed both from a weather and security perspective though the receptionist was at pains to emphasize the presence of staff at their desk at all times. Dark shades on admirably-placed bedside lights are too dark to be useful for reading.
