It's a charming older renovated hotel with character. Room was quiet and clean, beds comfortable. The hotel is located on Whyte Ave. within walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars. Staff in the Restaurant, Bar, and housekeeping staff were pleasant, attentive and efficient. Delicious full breakfast with many options from which to choose. Free glass of wine included in price for room was nice - good quality wines.

The fridge and coffee-maker in our room were not working properly, they required servicing/replacement. We felt that free parking should be included in the cost of the rooms. On a positive note, when we brought these concerns to the attention of staff, they did comp parking and breakfast to compensate for these issues.

The front desk staff - Check in with Mat and check out with Rachel was exceptional. I was welcomed with a smile and everything explained well. Mat even charged my phone as I had forgotten my charger! Rachel was cheerful and pleasant in my check out. She provided me with two sets of directions for my destination. I additionally had passed two housekeeping employees and I apologize for not having names. One was a black woman who seemed to be a Supervisor and she was very friendly and kind as was the other employee who I believe was Asian. Truly wonderful people!

The coffee machine! While superior coffee (thanks!) - the machine needs better instructions. Or ones that you can see early in the morning. The machine is not intuitive so I wasted a perfectly good coffee pod as it swallows them up. Also the artificial "creme" provided curdled in my coffee thereby wasting another pod! Creme should be stored in fridge - perhaps with a note directing its location?

I was in Edmonton for 5 nights, visiting a relative. The Varscona was an ideal place to stay, brilliant location for me on Whyte Avenue, and a real haven of peace. I had a great view from 5th floor room. Spacious room, very comfortable bed, could make tea and coffee in room. Staff all very friendly.

The restaurant and bar were closed during my stay, but actually that did get me out to Blowers and Grafton - very nearby.

The staff were exceptionally helpful, the hotels position is fantastic, right on Whyte Ave with all its bars/cafes and shops within minutes and even a Safeway only a few minutes away. Decent lounge area to sit in front of the the very welcome fire in the hotel reception area. Loved the USB charging facilities in the bedrooms.

The drop off area outside is supposed to be for 15 minutes but cars were allowed to stay for an hour meaning my pickup couldn't get close to the hotel which did cause an issue. My bedroom showed some signs of age and could benefit from a more thorough clean, but more than acceptable for a few days stay.

Fabulous small hotel in terrific location. A real gem. I love how helpful the staff were: for example, on my request they put a kettle and a microwave in my room. It was possible to open a window. It was possible to completely adjust the temperature in my room to my liking. Within less than one block of the hotel were several restaurants which did take away. There was also a small convenience store and many charming boutiques.

1..Cleaners as bathroom every time they had supposedly cleaned it ….There were pubic hairs left on the floor and in shower… I honestly think they had transferred them in from previous rooms on their mops as I groomed and my mates ginger .. 2….There was no bar in the hotel due to renovation…

It was VERY COLD. Air conditioning was on and I did have to ask for a blanket but it was uncomfortably cold......the explanation was that it is an old hotel but it really was hard to enjoy the room without wrapping myself in the blanket. Also, I made a point of hanging up my towels as per your environmental policy of not replacing towels unnecessarily when a stay is longer than a day. Unfortunately, the towels were replaced anyway, which is disappointing that your cleaning staff don't seem to follow the environmental sustainability policy that is described on the little folder in the bathroom.

The location is very nice of you’re wanting to walk around and discover restaurants and stores in Edmonton, having multiple options available for dinner around the hotel is really nice. There is no shortage of entertainment in that area. I booked just for a one night stay for a concert and it’s perfectly sufficient as a place to get ready and rest. If I had to, I’d stay again if a concert was in that area again.

There wasn’t anything overly bothersome at the hotel, the windows were a little broken in the room which was bothersome, but when one of them fully came off the latch they fixed it while we were out which was very nice. It does get noisy early though, so if you’re a light sleeper like me that may wake you up a bit too early for your own liking. No real complaints other than that though, it’s pretty good!

Very big and comfortable room, with a huge bed. The separetely offered breakfast was very good, with the best service. Although somewhat outdated, the facilities were perfect, large, comfortable, and very clean. I particularly appreciated the location, close enough to many restaurants and bars as well as the river park, so that I did not need any transportation.
