Room was perfect for a solo traveller. Even had a bath as well as a shower. Lovely view of bay from window
Room above sounded like a herd of elephants in there stomping around or maybe moving furniture about? Then outside my window (1st floor) were chairs and tables where smokers congregated so could hear them until at least 1.50am, then elephants were back in room above at 4.15am (different guests maybe but seemed a late check-in or return from being out as doubt there's a nightclub in Lynton!). After a 20 mile hike I just wanted a decent night's sleep - even my ear plugs didn't help. Not hotel's fault mainly inconsiderate guests. No parking available but price of room with addition of paid parking still cheaper than alternative hotel. I did book extra night in hope of getting parking but that didn't work but at least I could start my hike at 7am.

Honestly, I was skint and I just wanted a super-cheap bed, and the price here was absurdly low. I was half-expecting a meth lab or a non-existent address, but it's a properly lovely old Victorian gem, albeit well past its prime. No criticism. The room was as basic as you can get and I cannot think of anything positive or negative to say about it...it had a bed and a bathroom. Other rooms may be finer, I don't know, this was just a room. Thirty-six quid a night in a beautiful town with friendly staff. Parking either in the hotel grounds if you're early or just down the road if not. Restaurants close by, and the funicular railway down to the bay was a two minute walk. Absolutely perfect for a base. No frills as far as I could see, and none needed. I didn't eat here, so can't say if breakfast is good or bad. Probably fine. Perfect for me. Not the Ritz, and not pretending to be. I needed a cheap, clean, quiet, and safe place to be unconscious in for a night, and they delivered. Probably more expensive in the summer but it was exactly what I needed for exactly what I had in my pocket.
All good.

The breakfast was great Staff very friendly Room a good size and clean
The outside space is a mess we had a sea view but that was more a tree view with an overgrown garden The windows, paintwork and carpets need updating especially the windows- looks very old and tired

1) The location is perfect and the building is very grand thinking about all that has taken place there before in terms of entertainment and people who have stayed before. 2) Staff are helpful and they do all they can to make your stay enjoyable. 3) Work on the garden was good to see (hopefully small steps to make it the less overgrown state of recent years) 🌿
1) Could do with some entertainment in the main areas such as quiz evenings. There is a jazz evening once a month but would be nice to have some more things to keep guests at the hotel in the evenings whilst serving snacks and drinks. Although there is no bar anymore, having guests allowed to bring there own drinks to enjoy is good, but just a little more going on would be nice as it was known as a place for just that 🙂 2) Some minor room issues R62 - bathroom taps were stiff to turn on/off and water pressure low and room window very difficult to open and it wouldn't stay open due to snapped string.

An amazing ornate Victorian building which is bound to look dated. It is still being improved by its new owners. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly The location is perfect for the Cliff Railway down to Lynmouth, which is a good start for walks up the gorges and also for walking to the amazing Valley of the Rocks. A good variety of restaurants nearby (dinner not available at hotel) Hotel car park available (fee payable) Lovely soft towels and plenty of hot water Heating controlled in the room Dining room very spacious with new carpet and furniture Everywhere felt warm Excellent value B&B
Room 36 had no bedside liights You must remember it is a very old building with high ceilings ...corridors are separated by ugly fire doors but the paintwork and carpets are clean. Bedrooms and corridors need some pictures or stencilled pictures on walls

Warm and welcoming staff, particularly Maddie. Nothing was too much trouble. 24hr manned reception. Very dog friendly. The building is beautiful and was probably the jewel in the crown back in the day. Nowadays, yes, there are signs of age...it's an old building that needs a little help. But look beyond that. The location is perfect, step outside, and you are in the centre of Lynton. No bar anymore, no breakfast service either, but there are so many places on the doorstep to eat and drink, and you are welcome to bring in your own food and drinks - something I, and plenty of others did, when I stayed, making use of the comfortable downstairs lounge. Staff will happily supply glasses, plates, cutlery. Lovely old church next door. Very pleasant gardens out the back. Coastal views aplenty. On site parking is available but MUST be prebooked as it's quite limited. I would happily stay here again.

Stunning location. Easy access on foot to everywhere we wanted to go , so didn't use the car at all. Dark sky reserve and it was clear so night sky was spectacular. Plenty of places to eat and our dog loved multiple pet shops whilst I loved the art galleries /shops . Very very dog friendly village and they can go in virtually all places .
Lacks a bar due to new ownership religious views . Why impose this on guests of multi /non faiths I'm not sure . Also won't find breakfast to include bacon or pork as that's out on religious grounds too. Very poor. Where is England heading I wonder

The building is beautiful and interesting. I felt like I was stepping back in time. The staff were very helpful and informative. The room was clean with a stunning sea view to wake up to. We loved it so much that we booked an extra night! Once you've parked your car you won't need it any more. The walks and funicular railway are so close by.
We were just out of season so the bar and resturant weren't open. However breakfast at the vanilla pod and dinner at the only pub in the village was excellent. If I was to be picky then I'd say that the extractor fan in our bathroom could have been better.

Booked for family weekend away. The hotel was great. For the price we paid for 3 nights. It was excellent. You don't have some things like a phone in the room or bath robes, hairdryer, toiletries etc. But you do get a clean room with tea making facilities etc. Nice & quiet. Friendly staff.. Can't fault it. It's a historic building & you can see that. Yes it isn't modern & some parts may need a refresh. BUT THIS IS A FANTASTIC HOTEL FOR THE PRICE.. Loved our stay.. Also want to note how lovely the staff were (doggies included). Thank you x
