All the staff were really lovely very helpful and really wanted us to enjoy our stay. The food was amazing time taken to make sure it was right and cooked to order perfectly. The room was very comfy and the bed was very comfortable as well, all really clean. So yes we had a great stay and we will definitely be back.

We had no complaints all good

Great location in the centre of the national park; excellent for a walking trip; comfortable room; good restaurant with a great selection of dishes for a four-night stay (including three different fish specials); reasonably priced and good quality wines; nice post-dinner cocktails (one or two pre-dinner liveners would be a good addition); good choice of breakfasts. We were kindly upgraded to a larger room.

Bar closed a bit early on occasion, e.g. Sunday at 9pm during our stay. On the restaurant menu, the 'pie of the day' was more like a pie of the week as it didn't change from cottage pie over the four nights. The coffee making facilities could be a bit more generous, i.e., more coffee sachets and biscuits replenished after arrival.

The location was perfect for us, served our needs, as I was in the area for the dark skies of Exmoor for star gazing and astrophotography. Good parking facilities and the place has a very warm and friendly feel to it. The food in the restaurant was 10/10, compliments to the chef. I had the steak and was easily one of the tastiest and best cooked that I've ever had. All the food is sourced locally from nearby farms.

Nothing to dislike about the place. It's a little remote and off the beaten track, but then again, it is in the heart of Exmoor so it is to be expected!

Staff accommodating and restaurant food very good

On booking.com the room we chose a room was on first floor, but, according to the Hotel this information doesn't get passed over to them, consequently we had a room on the second floor which was an attic room with steep staircase approach which was not good for us as our mobility is not that great! No ither rooms available. Also the room was cold and we could her the wind whistling through the window. The radiator made a terrible ticking noise so the hotel gave us a portable heater and turned off the central heating.

We really liked the room, it was not big but it was lovely and cosy with a very comfortable bed and had everything we needed. We also loved how friendly the staff were and enjoyed chatting with them. Our dinner - we both opted for the rump steak - was absolutely delicious and really hit the spot after a long day walking. Probably one of the very best steaks we have had out so big compliments to the chef.

Breakfast was a good sized plate of food, not overbearing like some breakfasts can be and whilst we did like most of our English breakfast we both agreed that the bacon and tomato were overcooked and the sausage was not to our taste buds - however we would not want this to put people off staying here but instead would like the Exmoor Forest Inn to use this as honest feedback.

We had a great stay, room 3 was lovely. The decor and furnishings throughout the Inn are all very well designed. Dinner and breakfast were too-notch. The ribeye from their own farm was right up there with the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. The surprise dessert plate for our 38th wedding anniversary was a lovely touch. It’s so nice to find a place that is privately owned and well managed, with great attention to detail. Staff were really friendly and efficient too, and communication from the time of booking through to the day of our stay was excellent (including a local weather warning on the date of arrival).

The bathroom would benefit from some shelving for all the stuff my wife brings along. Room 3 (and presumably several others) is right above the restaurant, and could get noisy on busy nights. This wasn’t an issue when we stayed as a large party of diners all went home at 10pm.

The location was fantastic for our walking holiday - very easy to access lots of amazing trails within no more than a 20 min drive (you can also walk from the door but we didn’t do that trail this time). There is a drying room where you can store wet clothes and boots overnight. Our bedroom was very comfortable and breakfast was great. We had dinner at the restaurant 4 nights in a row and genuinely, everything we had was superb - there aren’t many places you could go and eat that frequently and be impressed by every dish. Service was also brilliant - no long waits for food. It really was very impressive. The staff were all incredibly friendly and professional.

The only tiny improvement would be if the towel rail in the bathroom had an override function so that we could have turned it on to dry towels etc. It is probably plumbed into the heating, so didn’t go on at all during our stay. Not a huge issue but would have been a bonus.

Fabulous location, lovely decoration. Friendly staff, concerned with ensuring your needs are met. Delicious food, all sourced locally where possible. Nice selection of beers and wine.

The kettle in our room was difficult to use because it had to be unplugged to pour the hot water out once it was boiled. The plug was under the desk, so refilling it was a faff. This could easily be rectified by replacing it with a cordless kettle.

Beautiful site with spacious and well appointed rooms, excellent breakfast and dinner menu, great service and plenty of relaxing spaces to enjoy.

Parking can be tricky as it’s a popular dinner location, the property is in a remote location with some interesting roads to access, this should not put you off as it is well worth a visit. A couple of minor fixes required, e.g. taps need fixing to prevent dripping and the room would have been 10 out of 10

The Exmoor Forest staff were superb; well trained but relaxed, they were attentive and friendly. The food was exceptional, probably the best roast dinner I have ever had and we ate on a Sunday evening after a busy lunch service, often the time when the quality flags but not here. The vegetables were a real feature and cooked to perfection. Similarly, breakfast of fantastic smoked trout and scrambled egg complemented with homemade sourdough that had a real lightness of touch to it - not something easily achieved. The welcoming wood burners were a real treat on an exceptionally wet early September evening and really cheered everyone arriving damp from the moor.

The weather!
