Room was perfect for a solo traveller. Even had a bath as well as a shower. Lovely view of bay from window

Room above sounded like a herd of elephants in there stomping around or maybe moving furniture about? Then outside my window (1st floor) were chairs and tables where smokers congregated so could hear them until at least 1.50am, then elephants were back in room above at 4.15am (different guests maybe but seemed a late check-in or return from being out as doubt there's a nightclub in Lynton!). After a 20 mile hike I just wanted a decent night's sleep - even my ear plugs didn't help. Not hotel's fault mainly inconsiderate guests. No parking available but price of room with addition of paid parking still cheaper than alternative hotel. I did book extra night in hope of getting parking but that didn't work but at least I could start my hike at 7am.

Honestly, I was skint and I just wanted a super-cheap bed, and the price here was absurdly low. I was half-expecting a meth lab or a non-existent address, but it's a properly lovely old Victorian gem, albeit well past its prime. No criticism. The room was as basic as you can get and I cannot think of anything positive or negative to say about it...it had a bed and a bathroom. Other rooms may be finer, I don't know, this was just a room. Thirty-six quid a night in a beautiful town with friendly staff. Parking either in the hotel grounds if you're early or just down the road if not. Restaurants close by, and the funicular railway down to the bay was a two minute walk. Absolutely perfect for a base. No frills as far as I could see, and none needed. I didn't eat here, so can't say if breakfast is good or bad. Probably fine. Perfect for me. Not the Ritz, and not pretending to be. I needed a cheap, clean, quiet, and safe place to be unconscious in for a night, and they delivered. Probably more expensive in the summer but it was exactly what I needed for exactly what I had in my pocket.

All good.

What a great value! I had a view towards the sea, and it was so nice to wake up to each morning. The staff were super helpful and kind. Although the bar and restaurant were not in service, it was nice to grab food and drink elsewhere and hang out wherever you please. Yes, as other reviews stated, it def needs some TLC and is bare bones. And there is hot water, you just need to let it run a few minutes. But it was clean, the location is right by all the shops and trails, and you just can not beat it for the price.

It got very warm, but thankfully my window did open (although with substantial effort). If you are traveling during warm weather make sure to request a room with a functioning window. Also the overhead lighting was harsh, maybe some warmer led bulbs. I used only the desk lamp and it was fine.

Hotel in perfect location for exploring both lynmouth and lynton. we preferred being in lynton as lots of great places to eat for evenings. We had the best advice from Rachel - totally knowledgeable and polite nothing was too much trouble. This hotel doesn't have facilities for breakfast etc as advertised but a perfect location for a lovely week. For the price this was fantastic and suited our needs perfectly. Thank you Rachel and staff for a wonderful stay. would definitely be back again!

The breakfast was great Staff very friendly Room a good size and clean

The outside space is a mess we had a sea view but that was more a tree view with an overgrown garden The windows, paintwork and carpets need updating especially the windows- looks very old and tired

Staff were so friendly and nothing was a problem. The room was really cheap and great value for money. I was worried that because the price was so cheap the room would be dated and the bed uncomfortable. I was pleasantly surprised, the room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. The views from the hotel bedroom window were amazing.

The building is full of history and it's a shame the restaurant and bar area are not being used. Even the local people felt the same when we spoke about the hotel. The outside gardens have been left to become overgrown and in places the pathway difficulty to walk on. The hotel would benefit from a gardener to maintain the grounds.

We loved this property. It’s a real shame the bar and dining room are no longer operating but staff on reception were extremely friendly, professional and helpful throughout our stay. Rachel couldn’t do enough for us and was really great with any questions we had about the local area. There are no facilities for eating and drinking in the hotel, there were facilities in the room to make tea and coffee with stock to replenish available in reception. Lots of places to eat and drink locally so it wasn’t much of an issue. Although the place is dated it adds to the charm. The bedding was clean, as were the towels and the bathroom was spotless. We had a beautiful view from our window. Staff who work there clearly care about the place and their customers. Our room had fresh flowers on the window looking out over the bay. A lovely touch. We will definitely back to explore more of Lynton again in the future.

It is dated and in need of modernisation, carpets could do with a good wash or replacing. Lift was out of order which might prove an issue for some people we were advised about this before we arrived.

The value for money of this hotel is unbeatable, you will struggle to find a hotel in peak summer in such an amazing location at a better price. Yes you get what you pay for it’s not going to be the ritz and you have to manage your expectations. But with current rising costs and hardship all around us this is the best you’ll get for this price! Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful also 10/10

As above there is wear and tear in this hotel, but this hasn’t stopping me coming back multiple times and I will again, great location and price makes up for any signs of aging in a very old hotel.

A very central location in Linton. Easy to book online. Very close to public car park where parking is free of charge between 6pm-10am.

I didn't think through the fact that it is an old building in which plumbing would have been installed later so all the plumbing is quite loud and resounds through the walls. The big open/spacious halls and rooms mean sound travels easily. The room I stayed in was right over the main street (again, something I didn't think about when I booked it!) There was no deadlock on the door or way to bolt the door closed other than the keyed entrance -- that left me feeling not as safe as I would have liked. Due to building noise, road noise, and lock issue, I found I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked.
