Fantastic Christmas Stay! My husband and I had an amazing Christmas experience at this hotel, with our little dog who was made to feel very welcome! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, from the bar staff and waitresses to housekeeping. The NEW management team went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time. The hotel offers a free car park for residents, which was really convenient. The food was outstanding, especially the Christmas Lunch, and the breakfast and evening meals were equally delicious. The location is perfect for walkers, and it's an excellent base for exploring the surrounding towns and beaches. There is also a lovely pebble beach a 1 mile walk from the hotel which is accessible by path which was perfect for our morning dog walks! I highly recommend staying here!
The hotel is charming and remote, offering a peaceful retreat. The only minor downside is that the roads leading to the hotel are narrow and steep (Typical in Devon). However, with a bit of care, they are easily passable. Despite this, it’s a small inconvenience for such a wonderful stay!

We appreciated the spacious bathroom with a bath AND a walk in shower . The walk in wardrobe was a real bonus to hide away bags and suitcases as well as accommodating clothes on hangers! It was good to have a sofa under the window for reading too in the television area. The bed was a really good size.
The scrambled eggs were disappointing ( but the poached eggs were fine!) Some of the items on the menu were not available but there were "specials" on the board. We would have expected a cream tea to have been available until after 3 pm and the day we managed to arrive back from our walk before 3pm.....there were no scones!!! Having told people we met that The Hunters Inn served cream teas between 12 and 3p.m we felt they ,too, might be disappointed!

Lovely old building in the middle of nowhere surrounded by great hiking trails from a gentle walk to more adventurous coastal paths. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Our room was larger than expected and was clean and comfortable on the third floor, which, as we had booked our dog in with us, were slightly worried about getting her out for her breaks but everything was fine. I hope there were no patrons below us with when she was chasing her ball and her occasional bark. We opted for half board and glad we did. However, the menu was limited due to being out of season that being said, the chefs were very accommodating, and the food was very nice. Our dog was thoroughly spoilt by the staff with belly rubs and treats. We are looking forward to coming back in the summer .
nothing to do with the hotel, but there was no mobile phone reception, which in away was a good thing, but I needed to be in touch with my elderly mum which I managed to do with messengers.

The lodge was excellent, clean, warm and welcoming, the facilities were great everything you could want in your own house, the lodge has a fully fitted kitchen and two separate bathrooms , the bathroom is small but functional with a full bath and seperate shower, the lounge is comfortable but the sofas are low so I found it difficult to get up and down. The outside space is small but big enough to sit out, I think it needs a table outside for drinks. Overall a excellent and beautiful place to visit, we will definitely return.

Lovely little haven for coastal walks away from the hustle and bustle. The menu choice was limited, no red meat options, lots of pizzas and fish. Food was very good though, and breakfast very tasty. The rear garden could do with a little tlc, but also appreciate it is early in the season. Our room was a good size to the front of the property, very comfortable with plenty of hot water for showers. We would definitely recommend a stay here and look forward to visiting again in the future. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Comfortable apartment which was part of the hotel. Lovely view from the lounge window. Great for walks directly from the doorstep. The valley was gorgeous, sounds of bird song and flowing river. Definitely need your walking boots. Local taxis useful after a long walk. Nice food in the restaurant but also good facilities to cook for yourself.
Look carefully at which road you take to get there. The first one from A39 is quite narrow and has tight bends, Better to go a bit further to A399 and then turn off.

This is a charming Inn in a very beautiful location. My room was fabulous. The ensuite had a window and a bathtub - heaven after a long hike Breakfast was good and served in a beautiful room with a wall of glass looking out on the garden. The location is great - in a forest, close to a beach and the coastal path. I loved the dancing performance in the evening
The noise from the kitchen fans. The kitchen was below my room. I was in despair about sleep but the fans went off at 9:30 pm so I was at peace until 7 am the next day. I think the hotel should ask if a guest is noise sensitive before assigning that room. The receptionist wasn't great. Seemed to see guests as an unfortunate interruption.

The location is beautiful and the grounds of the hotel are lovely. A short, relatively flat walk down to the shingle bay. The hotel sits in a small valley on the Devon coast. The food was good quality, pub style fare. Not fine dining but good portions and a reasonable choice.
The room we had was large and nicely decorated however the bed is a standard double with quite a firm mattress and not particularly comfortable. We are not 'large' people and we found the bed to be too small for us to sleep comfortably. For those who are used to a standard double bed the room would be fine. It was nice to have two pillows per person and the towels are changed daily if required.

Fabulous.... Lunch was lovely, we both had a burger with bacon jam. Dinner was gorgeous, I had the chicken, hubby had the fish pie, which was so nice apparently he couldn't share. The breakfast was the best full English I have had. I'm assuming the meat is locally sourced, it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location is rural. Great for walkers. Great place to unwind from the city. The Inn also has beautiful well kept gardens. We will definitely be returning there as there are many walks we did not cover and it's such a lovely place to unwind. Note: The Inn sits in the Heddon Valley run by the National Trust, quiet, tranquil, peaceful, there's nothing to do but relax at the Inn or explore the area.
The road into the valley is very narrow and steep.

Lovely location and great for walking. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Large rooms which were lovely and warm. Lovely to be able to stay in a complete dog friendly hotel. Menu was a little limited due to supplies but Management reassured us this was being addressed and it would not stop me from staying here again. Would love to visit in Spring when the trees are coming into bloom.
Lack of choices on the menu, but this was being addressed for the future.
