The Crown is in a fabulous location, both within the village, and to tour Exmoor. The Bar staff and those serving breakfast were very friendly. We had a good evening dinner, and breakfast, not bad at all, but we prefer a ‘self service’ for Cereals, toast and Juices. The cooked breakfast was nice. The ‘real ale’ served in the bar, did have a problem, as the same ‘Exmoor Ale’, available from another pub in the village, on this occasion, was much better. So a ‘bad batch’ from their supplier, I think. Probably should have been taken off the bar, as the other ‘Exmoor beer’, was very good, and tasted the same as other local suppliers.

Some of the interior is looking a bit ‘dated’, but whilst we were there, workmen are replacing a flat roof and looked to be refurbishing a room downstairs, so investment is going into the well run hotel. The water pressure for the shower, was poor, and the supplied toiletries ‘basic’. I would have happily paid a little more for better quality, but this is only a minor, in what was a very nice stay.

Great choice of continental and full English breakfast Catered for different dietary needs eg gluten free breads Staff all very friendly and warm welcome when we arrived for check in We had dinner at the hotel twice- excellent value for money & wide selection on menu Lovely to be able to sit on the benches outside watching the Exford world go by- looking over the village green with occasional car, bike, tractor or horse going by! Perfect setting! Good central base for exploring the Exmoor area

A great location with very friendly accommodating staff/family, food was excellent with plenty of choice and amount. Parking is very easy and access to all of Exmoor from The Crown is very simple.

I would really like to give a higher score the family deserve it but not able due to a couple of issues! These are hard times I know and the upkeep for a property of this size and structure must be daunting, however our gripes should be relatively easy fixes. The room (2) smelt musty due to a sizeable damp patch on the outside wall, this in turn is making the bathroom suffer accordingly the shower curtain in particular. I did speak with what I assumed was the maintenance man and pointed out the blocked downpipe and poor guttering which is responsible for the majority of these issues??

Perfectly situated In tquaint village of Exgord, opposite the village green. Exmoor National park entrance literally across the road. Typical country hotel...animal prints and accessories on the walls. Room large and well equipped with comfy double and good bed linen. Breakfast superb included in my price. Dog friendly. Had dinner in the bar. Average prices . Homemade beef pie. Off the page delicious. Interesting items available to purchase in hotel gift shop.

No toiletries in the bedroom. A minor dislike really.

The gentleman who checked us in was empathetic and went out of his way to give us a more suitable room. Chris, who served us breakfast the next morning told us about a fabulous bus service that took us to the sights so that we could have a driving break! The king room was fabulous and had a bath. Could have stayed longer had we not committed to other places 😭

Some scary roads getting there. Our rental car was too big for them and that made it stressful. However, the surroundings were so peaceful and relaxing that it was worth it 💕

Lovely setting in the middle of the village. The staff were really excellent and very helpful. Breakfasts were very good and catered for every taste. It was very busy with a wedding on but the atmosphere was excellent. The beer in the pub was excellent and a proper country pub.

Absolutely amazing spot for hiking, friendly staff, great bar in the evening with friendly locals and a wonderful breakfast to set you up for the day - felt very welcome as a solo traveller! Comfy bed, and very clean.

Nothing to not like … staff were amazing and very friendly, all super clean but some areas of the hotel were a little ‘tired’

Food was excellent, breakfast and eve meal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location for walking, mountain biking and coast. Big bathroom. Quiet location.

Bedroom No. 1 initially allocated to me had mould on walls in fitted wardrobe. When I reported it I was promptly offered a choice of replacement rooms and I moved. They said they would get it cleaned and repainted.

Everything, the hotel was good and clean. Staff were amazing and very accommodating. We travelled on our motorbike and got very wet, on arrival we asked if they could dry our boots and clothes, they did, nothing was too much trouble. Food in the bar was freshly cooked. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and again the staff were very accommodating. The hotel was very relaxing, we cannot rate them high enough. 😁 Our room was very big and we had a bath and shower. 😁 We would recommend and would stay again.

The location was perfect for a visit to Exmoor-right in the middle of the park in a picturesque village. The staff/owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The pub was lively with locals in the bar. There was an interesting menu for the delicious cooked breakfasts and the evening meals were well-cooked. The room was OK with good clothes storage and the bed was comfortable.

The room was not as clean as it might be (dead fly on the windowsill) and the windows were not easy to open and close.
