The rooms were clean, comfortable, and large. The PJs and slippers were great, as was the complimentary sake flights and beer. The popsicles after a hot soak was a very nice touch. All the staff were particularly nice, helping us send our luggage ahead to the next hotel, book dinner reservations, and help answer questions. The location was phenomenal. We really enjoyed our time in Takayama and at Hotel Wood.

We weren’t big fans of the breakfast. It was fine, but not as amazing as everything else at the hotel. I booked two rooms through booking.com and somehow I booked one to include breakfast and one that didn’t. At first we paid extra (1,500 yen) to allow all of us to have breakfast, but after the first morning, no one else in my family wanted the hot breakfast. We much preferred running out to the morning market and grabbing a bite there.

Proximity to old town, stylish and modern accommodation. Spa facilities were lovely (note.... it's a naked spa). No TV in rooms which i didn't mind. Taxi rank out front to get to and from hotel to train/bus station. About 1.2 km walk. Choice of Japanese or continental breakfast. Free drinks (yes, beer and sake) a nice plus after 5pm-10pm. Overall, would definitely stay again.

Towels were very small (perhaps im too big). ;p However, reception will kindly give you as many as you need when requested. Futon style bed is on the firm side. Pillows a bit soft for me (feather down).

The building and the rooms are very stylish and comfortable. The onsen, although quite small, was a plus. The location is perfect, at the heart of beautiful Takayama. The sake testing was also a nice touch.

On your second stay, the hotel applies an “eco-friendly” cleaning: the towels are replaced, but the bed isn’t made. After that, it’s every other day that you get a full cleaning. We didn’t understand what was eco-friendly about not making the bed…? It is a 4-star hotel after all. Don’t wash the towels then, but not making the bed seems like it’s just a way to spend less time cleaning each room. By the way, the towels could be replaced. They are really small and thin, so not convenient to shower AND use at the Onsen. Finally, the check-out time is 10 AM while most hotels we stayed at was 11 AM. There’s not counterpart where you can access the room before 3 PM.

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression. The room was clean and well-maintained, and the amenities provided were more than adequate for a comfortable stay. One of the highlights was the free drink service in the evening — such a thoughtful and relaxing touch after a long day. I really appreciated that. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would consider staying again. The service and atmosphere made it a worthwhile experience.

The breakfast, while not bad, was a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the experience. There were two set options to choose from, and although both were decent, it offered less for more money than some places, I’ve stayed. I’d recommend buying for one day and then deciding if you need it for other days during your stay.

One of the highlights was the complimentary drinks offered from 5 PM to 11 PM, which added a special touch to our evenings. From refreshing juices to soothing teas and even sake tasting, it was a delightful experience that gave us the chance to relax and bond in the cozy lounge. What truly made my stay unforgettable, however, was the warmth and hospitality of the staff at Hotel Wood Takayama. Their genuine care and attention made the experience feel magical, leaving me wishing I could have stayed longer. A truly remarkable place!

Unfortunately, the public bath fell short of expectations. On my first visit, I noticed hair, flakes, and debris in the water, which was disappointing. Thinking it might have been due to the late hour, I decided to try again the next day at an earlier time, but the experience was the same. I ended up leaving after less than five minutes on both occasions.

This hotel has it all! The design is Japanese aesthetic through and through. There is a complementary happy hour complete with sake tasting and beer - yes complimentary! Also stuff for the kids and coffee too. Beautiful lounge. We also had a rushed situation checking in and needed to leave our luggage at the front desk to catch our taxi that was waiting outside and the host made it happen, they're all very friendly and helpful. Most comfortable beds out of all our hotels in Japan. Location is perfect for Takayama, walking distance to all the good sightseeing spots.

Don't confuse the spa for an onsen. I'm not sure what really the spa provides there as it wasn't explained and I tried asking but didn't really get an answer.

Beautiful hotel with a traditional-looking facade and perfect location to explore Takayama old town, just a short walk to the main streets. We really enjoyed the free flow of sake, beer, and other beverages offered to all guests from 5pm to 11pm which is a nice touch. Parking is provided for free, but do note that it is located uphill at a separate site. It can be a bit troublesome if you plan to use the car often during your stay. However, they do provide shuttle service during check-in and check-out, which was convenient. The room was clean and comfortable, though the interior quality felt a little more basic than expected given the overall presentation of the hotel. Still, overall a great stay with excellent location.

Large, welcoming lobby/public spaces. Staff was warm and friendly and the location was great for wandering the old town. We had one of the 2-level spaces as we were a party of 4. It would have been tight for more than a night or two, but the lobby was so large and inviting, I suspect we would have spent more time there if we had been there longer. They have a happy hour and snacks in the lobby in the evening that we did enjoy.

The area around the hotel seemed to close up pretty early. It's comfortably walkable to other areas of Takayama, so we had to go a bit further afield for dinner, but was a bit surprising.

Really enjoyed my stay at the stylish Hotel Wood. Excellent location close to everything - the old part of town and even the station. The staff were over and above friendly and helpful, they even arranged for a lift to the station when I had to leave early after a snowstorm. The room is very stylishly decorated and comfortable. The bed was on the harder side but was surprisingly comfortable. It was very clean. The central sitting area with free beer and sake in the evening was a nice touch for relaxation. The onsen was really superb. Immaculate and very relaxing. The Japanese breakfast was delicious. Good value for money Would definitely stay here again.

The delicious japanese breakfast is alternated with a Western breakfast which is truly awful (does anyone eat cold scrambled eggs) but no possibility to change from the routine unfortunately.

Wow, we had an amazing stay. The staff were very friendly and polite. The room was clean, modern, and came with tea, coffee, bottles of water, and a pair of slippers. One of the highlights was the free drinks from 5 to 11 p.m. I got to try six different kinds of sake, and the staff explained each one clearly in English. The breakfast was also very good and gave me the chance to try traditional Japanese dishes. They even had a vegetarian option for my girlfriend, which we really appreciated. The hotel also has an onsen available, which was a nice way to relax. We were able to leave our luggage before check-in and after checkout, which made things super convenient. The hotel is very well located and close to all the main attractions in Takayama.
