We loved this place. It was our first stop and it was perfect to arrive in Sri Lanka and calm down. It’s a really peaceful place. There’s a loud train in front of the hotel but it’s not very frequently but for us it was really charming. The stuff was super friendly and they organised spontaneously a guided fishing trip with a friend, which was great. Afterword they cooked the fish at the hotel. We would highly recommend the hotel 🙂

Unfortunately nothing wowed me.

The location is not what was described. Very minimum ocean view. And train track runs just 10m from the room. Facilities very minimum. I went to the beach there was no chair or sun bed in nice condition so I’ve used next doors facilities.

No visible signage when arriving from the south but mostly, since when did a hotel charge a 10% service charge?? Bars, restaurants all over Sri Lanka now add 10% as an excuse to push up prices by stealth. But a hotel???

Wow the beach at this hotel is superb. Very clean, and stretches for a very long distance into the sea, yet shallow and very even. An added bonus is we did not find any rocks, let alone sharp ones, that dot the sea floor of some beach areas. So there were no scrapes or bruises on our feet after being in the sea.

We were given a towel per person. Would have been nice if they were a bit larger or there were two towels per person. But it was alright. Saying would have been better. But on the defense of the owners/operators of the hotel, we did not ask. Also, we normally carry our own water. Some guests might need a bottle of water and two glasses as a bare minimum.

We loved the vibe at Ocean View, the property is minutes away from the beach but the railway between you gives a unique feel like you’re half in countryside, half by the ocean. We property is big and spacious and the AC rooms on the first level look very luxurious. We booked a fan room which was ground floor, it suited us fine and it was also spacious. We loved that we got to see the train pass so close to us and also loved how close we were to the beach. The staff were super helpful and lovely! Thank you!

Our toilet was a bit broken which was a little bit annoying but didn’t ruin our stay at all. Also you can hear the train quite loudly in the ground floor rooms- we didn’t mind it but it did wake us up a few times in the night.

Lovely room needs new towels . Asked for a kettle were given it. It's ocean view no view as in another block away from sea but also you don't get railway noise

No chairs for sitting on grass and not enough sun beds . Also asked for clothes dryer didn't give us one . Fridge would be nice

Room was large and bed had mosquito net covering it. Bathroom was clean with a good shower. Area classed as balcony outside the room was lovely to sit on and watch the tropical storm we had. Beautiful sandy beach approx 100m from hotel. Yes, had to cross the train tracks to get to the beach, but that's a lovely quirk! The line isn't busy and you do get used to the sound & rumble when trains do pass!

Lack of information about the hotel, dining options etc on arrival. It's a very chilled place, but some info would have been nice. The young staff were very helpful but didn't speak much English. The Manager introduced himself to me on my 2nd night as he'd been away on business the previous day. There was also confusion as they don't take card payments, only cash. The Manager took me by tuk tuk to two ATMs (the first one wasn't working) to withdraw cash to pay my bill. Very embarrassing for me! I'd been out the previous day so would have got cash then had I known.

I stayed in Ocean View for a night. I had a great experience thanks to the owner. Even though the sea was rough for swimming (I was there off season), my experience in Bentota was worth it. The owner arranged a boat trip to the mangroves in the near by river and a visit to a turtle sanctuary with logical prices. He is always available to help, easy to reach, friendly young person. The room/ bathroom was very clean. I felt comfortable to stay there. I recommend it 100%.

Ocean View truly exceeded my expectations! The room was quite nice and clean with good furniture. There was hot water and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was kind enough to even set up a workstation in the room for me as I was working from there. Sakun and his staff are very friendly and quite helpful. They provided all the information and tips I needed for my stay as soon as I arrived. The hotel serves only breakfast, I picked the Sri Lankan breakfast and it was a very impressive spread. There are other beach restaurants right next to the hotel to get the other meals and drinks. The staff arranged Tuk Tuks whenever I needed to get to the city, but the main road is close enough to walk up and get the bus too.

Remember to take cash because they don't take card payments

The room had all the amenities we needed and was very close to the beach - so much so we went to sleep to the sound of the Indian Ocean.

The accommodation was right next to the railway line. Although this wasn't major problem for us some guests may find it offputting.
