If you are looking for the traditional Japanese Ryokan experience this is the right place. We had a private onsen which was nice. One can also book a private slot at the other onsen or use the shared one. The dinner that was included was very nice and special. It was a piece of art. However one has to be open minded and willing to eat a lot of things you may have not eaten before. The lady that was serving us the food was very nice. The hotel can be reached by walking 10 mins from the train station or 4 mins from the bus station. We had two nights, however we think one night is enough to have the experience.

If you have a room with a private Onsen, the „private bathroom“ means the shower is outside where the private Onsen is. When we arrived it was heavily raining which meant we had to shower in the rain. One also has to be aware that if you book a standard room, eating and sleeping is in the same room, such that the bed has to be put away/aside during the breakfast/dinner. If you don’t want that, you have to book another room where eating and sleeping is separate.

Staying in a traditional ryokan was a treat. We really enjoyed the rooms, with tatami mats and windows overlooking beautiful greenery. The futons were really comfortable and our room had its own onsen, which was fabulous. The evening meals were extraordinary. Beautifully presented, with numerous delicious dishes. If anything there was too much food. The breakfast too was very lavish.

If anything there was too much food. Especially for breakfast - after a huge meal the night before, we just couldn't eat much of the beautifully presented breakfast. And although we liked it being traditional, found it a bit too fishy for our tastes - and we missed having coffee! The only other negative was that the corners of the rooms were quite dusty and the furnishings a bit tired.

Traditional Ryokan property, traditional Japanese meals, helpful and friendly staff. Good location, not too far from train station

As with most older Ryokans we have stayed in, it could do with a little TLC and a good dust…we’ve come to understand that’s part of the experience of these old traditional inns though….but the price we paid here is up there with some the higher end newer ryokans so they need to match those levels really

- Nice location: within 8 ninutes walk from Hakone Station, easy to locate, so very convenient for family travellers with kids, especially in the case of late arrival in a day - Comfortable and sizable room: traditional ryokan room but very comfortable given its size and facilities. The in-room onsen with the mountain view is definitely the highlight and it was really the unforgettable experience that we could enjoy onsen anytime we wanted, like before breakfast, right after we came back, or even at mid-night. - Meals are definitely a bonus to our stay: we will for sure come back to book the same hotel just bcz of the meals.

Nothing particular

Everything! A truly authentic experience in a beautiful Ryokan, we were served clean and varied Japanese kaiseki by a wonderful hostess, we took a hot spring bath twice a day, both indoor and outdoor are wonderful, and we were only a 10 minute walk from Hakone Yumoto station. The area is stunning, the beds were comfy, the room was meticulously clean and the view of the mountains was breathtaking. I could stay here forever.

Absolutely nothing, but others should be aware this is truly a TRADITIONAL experience. You'll be expected to wear the provided Yukata (robes) and the correct slippers (3 different kinds depending on the room) you'll be eating fish for breakfast, you'll have staff in and out of your room, and if you use the public onsen you'll be naked with strangers. Personally I loved the whole experience, but it's not a western hotel by any means.

Very authentic japan onsen. Sleep on mats on floor. Private onsen.

Our second night lady that helped us with food service was rude and untimely. Came in room when i asked her to please give me 10 minutes to dress. Woke us up hour earlier than we requested. She pushed in. So rude. The lady first night was perfect.

1. The location is 1 bus stop away from the hakone yumoto station, ie 10mins walk distance. 2. Our room came with dinner and breakfast and both meals were not too bad. I enjoyed breakfast more tbh. There is a restaurant beside the Ryokan if you do not enjoy the meals or doesn't suit your taste. 3. There are public and private reserved onsen. 4. They also have a vending machine.

1. The whole place smells mushiness, and I have a sensitive nose, so I didn't sleep well. 2. They only accept payment by CASH. Strictly no cards. 3. The room is different from what I booked. I booked an open air onsen with a huge window, but it turned up to be a small window instead.

This was probably one of our most memorable experience in Japan as it was the most traditional. I would highly recommend staying here during your trip just to experience the dinner and breakfast courses, alone. Hakone is such a lovely town and the Ryokan is positioned right outside the bridge over a stream. So, if you open the windows at night in your room you can hear the sound of water. It’s so calming. We took the Tokaido Shinkansen (bullet train) from Kyoto Station and then a cab from Odawara Station to Hakone. My family and I had two rooms. The inn is older so don’t expect a 5-star hotel appearance but the charm of the location is in its rustic aesthetics. You have to take off your shoes and all. Though there are no elevators but the staff will help you bring your suitcases upstairs. My husband and I had a room with a private onsen but they help you schedule the private onsen time upon your arrival, too. They also schedule your dinner and breakfast. The meals are beautifully set. Put on your haori jacket and kimono provided for the full experience! Checking out was very easy as well. We lugged our suitcases 6 minutes away to the Hakone-Yumoto Station, hopped on the OH red line back to Odawara Station. Overall, a lovely stay.

The room was quite spacious. We didn't realize the meals would be served IN OUR ROOM! That was so unique and pleasant. The 10 course meal was a delightful experience of traditional Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately, my friend had been sick the day before, so she couldn't eat as much as she wanted. The staff was so helpful in storing our bags before and after checkout. We loved the futons on the tatami. The hotel onsen was lovely, we went after 10pm so we could enjoy the outdoor onsen space for women.

I didn't care that the room didn't have a shower/bath, but if you want to reserve the private bathing area, you need to do that earlier. We checked in around 630pm and the only available slot was after 11pm, but we just ended up using the general bath and no one was there so we had it to ourselves anyway!

Our room was enormous and we were lucky enough to have an eating area and a sleeping area with sliding screens between. We even had a sauna in our room which was so luxurious, and a few steps down the corridor we had a massive outdoor onsen on the roof, with a shower. We didn’t really want to leave the hotel! Everything was extremely clean and fresh. The staff are really lovely although they speak very little English

The communal areas are a bit shabby, particularly the carpeting, and the garden seemed very uncared for. The food was very disappointing We would consider ourselves adventurous eaters, but the meals were quite bland and fell far short of what we expected, particularly considering the cost of the hotel. They were just not very palatable, and came in a very odd order with rice at the end!
