This facility was conveniently located right by touristy stores, eateries, and the train station. The attention to detail with the food (dinner and breakfast) was impressive and the baths were clean. We arrived at around 5pm, checked in (staff there speaks English), informed Yuki-san (person in charge of our room and meals) the preferred times of our meals and headed out to explore the neighborhood. Given the times for the baths and meals, the experience is really about enjoying the meals provided and relaxing in the baths and the room because there's nothing else to do. Suggested breakfast time was 7:30-8am, which allowed an extra quick soak in the morning before the 11am checkout time (grateful for this).

We noticed a cobweb at the doorway of our room but it wasn't a big deal though.

The entire experience was off the charts Fabulous. The traditional Japanese rooms were very cool, with large opening windows overlooking the river. We booked a private open-air onsen, also overlooking the river, which was a great experience. But, by far, the most amazing part of the stay is the fish-forward 20-course dinner and 15-course breakfast served in your room. Every bite of food was absolutely delicious. We'd read the reviews from people saying to come hungry, so we were careful to starve ourselves all day in anticipation of the feast to come. My wife and I travel to eat and have had amazing meals in 60+ countries, and this stay and food experience ranks in our top ten. That said, if you're a steak and potato person, this may not be your thing. To summarize our experience, we agreed we'd hit a home run after taking in the onsen, but decided we'd hit a grand slam after eating our fabulous meal.

The location is great as it’s very close to the train station and the facilities are incredible as well booked for a private onsen room and it’s so cool. The staff took great care of us and they are super nice. They dressed us up in kimono and we enjoyed our dinner in the private dining room. The breakfast is insane but if you are used to traditional Japanese breakfast it could be a bit much.

The only thing is probably the breakfast and too bad they only have one massage chair in the hallway so I didn’t feel like using it.

Beautiful experience in a traditional Japanese ryokan. The room was spacious for our family of four, it overlooked the river and the trees, which was very appreciated. We slept like babies on the futon beds and enjoyed the experience of wearing yukatas, which were provided by the ryokan. Great experience of traditional breakfasts and dinners included in the price. We stayed two nights, and the meals were always different. The staff in the room is very nice and smiley. We also tried onsen (hot spring bath) - the water temperature was extremely hot, don't get the private onsen (for which you pay extra), because you will not be able to stay in there for more than 5 minutes. The area around is great for walking and discovering.

The staff at the reception could have been more welcoming and friendly. The water temperature in the onsen could be less hot for the guests to be able to really relax and enjoy the experience (otherwise we had the impression we were boiled alive). It said that it was 42 degrees, but guy, please check, it felt like at least 62.

The room is great. I liked that there was a shower and bath in the room, with amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, hair ties and clips. Not to mention, complimentary green tea and snacks. The view from the room looks out onto the river and mountains, and the sound of the river helped me sleep. We weren’t able to book a room with a personal private onsen in time (even 6 months ahead of time), but we didn’t have any trouble reserving time for the two private onsen they have available. If you want more privacy I recommend reserving a spot when it gets dark out, as you can see people by the river during the day. It was a very relaxing time. The location is also very convenient as it is right by the train station and shopping street. We had the staff ready our futon beds and was impressed how quickly they were made. The staff are also very accommodating and amiable. The staff at the front desk speak English well. I still recommend that foreigners learn basic phrases for communicating with the servers, as ours spoke mostly Japanese. I would also recommend researching proper etiquette for ryokan, the type of food served, and how to eat certain foods like shabu-shabu if you don’t know already. We emailed them in advanced about getting a vegetarian meal option and they were able to accommodate us. The food was amazing, I always wanted to have a traditional Japanese breakfast. The meals are large, so we were never hungry. The vegetarian option was just as amazing as their normal meals and found myself jealous of some of the items in the meal. Keep in mind that there were some items in their normal meal like turban-shell, shirasu, or whole grilled fish that Americans might be squeamish about (you should try it anyway). Don’t be annoying by trying to ask for something else- try to eat what you can or do research to see if ryokan is really right for you. Luckily I like this type of food and I’m willing to try new things, so there was nothing to be squeamish about.

The staff seem very rushed to the point that there were some small spills while serving and stains in the food preparation area right outside the room. The walls had some scuff marks from the chairs or other objects. But otherwise it seems like the staff take care to clean the room and the onsen, so I don’t have anything to complain about despite what I have read. It felt mostly clean.

We absolutely loved waking up to our own balcony onsen with direct Haya River views, the serene mountain backdrop, and the genuine warmth of the staff—especially Kanna, whose attentive care made every moment feel special. Our traditional Japanese–style room, with its tatami flooring, and futon bedding, struck the perfect balance between authenticity and comfort, and being just a short stroll from Hakone-Yumoto Station and nearby shops meant we could easily explore and then return to the ryokan’s peaceful atmosphere.

While the beautifully presented kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were a highlight, a few of the dishes proved a bit too adventurous for our western palates.

The hotel is so nice and provided a really nice Ryokan experience. The rooms were spacious and had a beautiful view of the mountains. We loved the food served in our room and discover all the traditional Japanese food. The location is great, just a few minutes from the station but a street away from the main road. They had all the amenities and even had a mosquito repellent which came in handy. The people looking after us were so kind and welcoming. The highlight would be the private onsen. That was such a nice experience.

There was not much option for breakfast time. Having to wake up at 8am and beds put away for breakfast at 8.30 was a bit early.

Outstanding hotel with very kind staff and excellent location. The beds on the floor were very comfy, and much more padded than other ryokan sleeping mats we had experienced on the trip. Location was perfect for train and bus access. Lovely view of the river from the room. The food was incredible and had so much thought and skill put into it, and the staff looking after us were so kind. Not a criticism, but the food was actually a bit much at times as many of the dishes were beautiful traditional cuisine, but I felt bad that I couldn't stomach a significant portion of it. The meals were amazing but there were some 'challenging' dishes for people not familiar with Japanese cuisine. No 'western' breakfast/dinner options which was great for an authentic experience, but just a heads up to people with particular dietary needs.

The pictures of the onsen on the booking.com website are a little misleading as they are actually depicting the private onsen which you have to pay extra for and are much smaller in reality.

Really close to the station. We arrived in a rainy day, but it was not a problem at all, since it was so close from the station. We didn't even need an umbrella Staff was really kind and helpful it was really nice to feel more close to Japan tradition and habits, comparing to traditional hotels, it was a really nice experience

Bathroom floor was a bit slippery during the bath There was not many amenities in the bathroom, like shampoo or body soap We were in 3 people. The room could be a bit bigger, during room changes (for meal and for sleeping), things got a little bit cluttered

It was very easy to get from the train station to the hotel which was welcome after a long day of travelling. The hotel was spacious and very clean and the staff were helpful and responsive. The room was great with a lovely view to the river and surrounding forest. The bath on the balcony was a lovely feature that we enjoyed. Dining each morning in our own private dining room was a special treat and the room service staff were extra kind and welcoming. As it is in the middle of town, it is an easy to walk to lovely nearby restaurants (highly recommend the pizza place just outside) and convenient access to the astonishingly efficient public transport to get to all the area's incredible tourist attractions.

The hotel has no laundry services and cannot offer any solutions within the town area. This was surprising and a little disappointing especially given the price we were paying.
