Cleanliness. Even the area outside my room was clean - swept, no webs or dirt - even up above where the roof overhang is. Armand was very nice and helpful. Location was perfect - easy access and close restaurants.

Although the room was clean, the floor under the bed was dusty....probably just a simple oversight and I put that in my suggestion to the maid. I don't doubt she will take care of it The plastic covering on the mattress under the sheet made it a bit uncomfortable to sleep because the plastic made me feel sticky. Probably most motels do the same, but putting a mattress pad on top of the plastic cover might help.

The property is beautiful with many hanging baskets and large pots of flowers in full bloom. I wish my planters at home looked as full and nice. The staff are welcoming and friendly without being pushy or solicitous. Both times I have stayed there, when I checked in, I was offered recommendations for local restaurants if I was hungry. I was encouraged to contact the office if I needed anything. The two rooms I have stayed in are very clean and pleasant. The furnishings are good quality, not the tacky, cheap furniture often found in hotels. I love the location. Even though it is close to the Mackinaw Bridge, the price is reasonable. It is the perfect stopping point for my cross country journey from MN to MI. I am able to get a full day of driving in before I stop and then from this hotel, my drive on the second day is only 3 hrs. And, because of all of the wonderful flowers, it is easy to find. I have never been disappointed by anything when I have stayed there. Another plus is the soundproofing. I have never heard even the tiniest noise from other rooms or people in the parking lot.

There is nothing that I would suggest changing. The Sunset is an ideal place to stop and recharge after a long day of driving.

I don't usually book roadside motels when I travel. Happily, this was a successful exception. The room was very large, very clean, and very quiet. The grounds were filled with spectacularly beautiful flowers. The owner was not only very nice but very accommodating in helping us find our way in a new place. He made excellent restaurant recommendations, helped plan some fun day trips, and told us how best to as negotiate the people and travel to and from Mackinac Island. Overall, I considered it a great value.

The staff at the Sunset Motel were great as soon as we arrived. My husband and I are fans of midcentury vibes, especially the vintage knotty pine paneling which we had seen in photos of the rooms. Phenomenal staff called to verify our ETA, so I asked if there might be one of the rooms with knotty pine open for the night. I was told they had already scheduled us for one of the newly renovated rooms. Upon arrival, I found they had moved reservations around so we could have one of the knotty pine rooms! The room was really cozy and it had everything we needed. It was a little on the small side which didn’t bother us, and through the back window we could see old apple trees that were overflowing with apples. This was a nice view and certainly unexpected. Someone at the property really has a green thumb! Though it was October, there were enormous pots of beautiful brightly colored flowers! I would like to know the gardener’s secret. This motel was also a good value and the rooms were all on the ground floor so you can park right in front of your room and have no stairs at all.

The property was actually a few miles outside of town, which we had not realized. This wasn’t a problm for us, but travelers without cars would want to make arrangements as there is much to see in the area. I can’t think of anything we didn’t like about this property. It was just as advertised.

We liked how spotless it was, and everything that you needed was provided. We appreciated the restaurant recommendations when we checked in. We liked the extra pillows, the blackout shade on the front window, and the charger plugs on the nightstands.

The decor was dated, and the bathroom was small, but we already knew this when we booked the hotel. The only thing we would have liked was a screendoor.

The property is nicely decorated with flower baskets. The small lawn area has a giant chair and corn hole game. I loved this place except it was next to the high way so you can hear the trucker’s engine while it climbed up the hill.

My room was too close to the high way. The one dresser was next to the bathroom and kind of blocking the path so I bang into it 2x after coming out of the restroom.

Location was great, staff was very friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and helpful with food and ferry recommendations. The room was quiet, clean and maintained very well.

The AC couldn't quite keep up with our demand, but we like our room to be like an ice box, so it wasn't the end of the world that it didn't meet our unrealistic expectations. No complaints otherwise.

Location was absolutely beautiful. The owners keep the rooms and grounds immaculate. The #1 reason I chose this motel. The reviews were spot on. We left early so we didn't end up getting breakfast but I could of guessed that it also would be amazing.

You can hear everything. Didn't bother us, we use a noise machine and a battery operated fan. 😊 But I wanted to mention, I'm sure someone out there cannot do the noise. Air conditioner also blocked the noise out.

You guys! This hotel was the cleanest place I've ever stayed. I was traveling with my mom who cleans houses for a living so she can be picky and she just kept walking around "I can't believe how clean this place is!". Unlike your traditional hotel rooms, our two queen room was actually two rooms, one bed was in the livingroom/kitchen area, the other bed was in a separate room. It was super cute. Staff was extremely welcoming, seems to be run by an adorable family. The grounds were impeccable. The flowers all over were absolutely beautiful.

If you are a light sleeper, you can hear the highway that goes by. This did not bother me or my mom but could bother some people. The bathroom is quite small, this again was fine for my mom and I, but someone of a larger size could struggle with the smaller amenities.

This motel was awesome. I was impressed with the room and the grounds were more than amazing. It reminded me of Butchart Gardens in BC Canada. The floral arrangement and plants were really impressive. The staff were equally as a amazing. The family who runs this place have gone above and beyond and truly deserve this review. If you're looking for a great place to stay in St Ignace, look no further. There might be larger and more grand rooms than this older hotel has because of it's age, but I highly doubt there's anyplace that puts more care and energy into making their hotel/motel the best possible for their guests. I've added a few pictures but the photos don't even come close to how bright and colorful everything was. The sun was already settling and there wasn't much light when they were taken.

It's slightly off the beaten path, but that could be a bonus for anyone looking for a quiet place to get some rest. I'm not saying it's secluded, it's just off the main highway, so maybe I shouldn't even mention it, but if you're looking to walk to town, it's probably not the place for you. There is a nice bar/restaurant next door. Oh, while I'm mentioning that, their food is great and the portions are really big.
