Gorgeous hotel in a great location in the middle of Charleston, surrounded by cafes, restaurants and independent stores. Cafe and restaurant downstairs were very good.

A victim of its own success? Perhaps just understaffed. The hotel was frantically busy when we arrived and staff seemed unable to cope. No one helped with car or luggage. No welcome drinks as advertised. Sofa bed wasn't made up in our room and took a while for housekeeping to bring linen. Never a luggage trolley availble on check in or check out. Suites were not as big as other hotels we stayed and a bit cramped for us with our two teenagers all sharing one bathroom. Wish we'd booked 2 separate rooms instead. Reception didn't really explain everything available to us on arrival. They were so busy. Could never get through to anyone on the telepehone. Outside courtyard was taken over by dining pods/ igloos which had to be booked. Wished we'd stayed in the Restoration Hotel instead.

Hotel Emeline exceeded all our expectations. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a welcome cocktail and given a thorough overview of the hotel's many amenities and the staff shared fantastic local recommendations. We stayed in a Collector's Suite, which was stunning—spacious and filled with thoughtful touches like a record player and cozy robes. We were in Charleston to celebrate our 15th anniversary, and my husband worked with the hotel in advance to plan some surprises. The team went above and beyond, arranging sweets, champagne, and breathtaking flowers (special thanks to Michelle, who personally sourced them!). Throughout our stay, the staff continually checked in to ensure we had everything we needed. They made reservations for us, contacted restaurants in advance, and delivered exceptional customer service at every turn. The lobby was beautiful, and the outdoor area was lush and inviting, complete with couches and fire pits. Each floor featured fresh fruit, still and sparkling water dispensers, a deluxe coffee machine, and a selection of teas—no detail was overlooked. Despite the luxurious amenities, the hotel maintained a cozy, boutique feel. While we didn’t use the complimentary bikes, the location was ideal for exploring the area. I cannot recommend Hotel Emeline highly enough. Our stay was so exceptional that we’d happily return to Charleston just to experience it again!

The only thing I would change around the layout is that you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom.

From the moment you set eyes on the building you know you’ve arrived someplace special from decor, location, restaurant and staff to coffee shop, rooms, outdoor fireplaces/couches and dining yurts. Amazing staff who went out of their way to make up for any problems. It’s so nice it’s where all the locals come for holidays dinners and family photos. Amazing how everything is walkable including the horse drawn carriage rides 1 block away.

The parking costs $52 /night but you get in/out privileges va nearby parking is over $30 every time you enter. At least your car is ready super fast every time. While the main building was amazing, there are inherent problems with the 3rd floor rooms in the newer back building. I spoke with an engineer and confirmed there are reoccurring problems with getting hot water for showers, and if you are a light sleeper in winter or summer, you can hear the auto heater/AC go on for the adjacent rooms. Fortunately they were an amazing staff who completely made up for any inconveniences. When I go back I’ll know to specify a room in the front/main building, and to make dinner reservations a couple days in advance.

Location was wonderful! Able to walk everywhere I wanted to go in the historic district. Hotel was very classy with a boutique vibe. I was upgraded to a double level suite which sounds cool but wasn’t, at least for me, a solo female traveler. I had to lug my suitcase to the upper floor and found that in order to avoid going up and down repeatedly, I just kept everything on the upper level and never used the lower level. And secondly, as a woman alone, I realized the first evening that I wouldn’t be able to hear anyone breaking in if god forbid that happened. The perpetrator would have been standing over my bed before I would have heard anything going on! And the room door was accessible to an outdoor hallway so that did freak me out and influence my ability to relax at night. But this is more a me problem than a problem with the hotel but did want to mention it. Had I had a heads up, I would have definitely declined this upgrade. Otherwise room was nice and clean, bed and pillows were comfy, and they had Nespresso coffee in the room which was a nice touch. Would recommend this hotel.

Everything was top notch!

The location was amazing. Although there are a lot of nice locations in this district. Restaurants galore and right next to the market. The gym was well equipped. The outdoor seating area at the hotel is very nice. It was nice that they offered a room with two separate bedrooms. Very good for families of 5 or more.

Not a fan of the bar staff at the restaurant. Not all of them of course - some bad apples that have no problem bad mouthing guests to other guests. All other staff were great. The rooms were extremely tight and there was no way to control the temperature. Half the hotel felt very warm while the other very cold.

Great location in the historic district, could walk everywhere. Rooms were big and bed was super comfy. The coffee/tea station on each floor with a sparkling water tap was a bonus!

We were never told what the cost was for valet parking and although it was stated as $36/day in the information package in the room, it was actually charged as $56/day. When I queried that upon checkout they told me it had always been that amount. I didn't like getting that surprise at checkout when I really couldn't do anything about it and the reception staff were clearly not interested in my complaint.

Hotel Emeline was even better than expected. The hotel itself was beautiful and our room was spacious and clean. They also had a coffee bar on our floor with a filtered water tap to fill reusable bottles from our room. There was a great coffee shop in the lobby and restaurant/courtyard area. The hotel offers valet parking but there is a lot across the street from the hotel that had space available our entire stay. Location is perfect as it's across from the outdoor market and a block from King Street shopping. Staff also allowed us to check in a few hours early which was much appreciated!

Emeline is a beautiful hotel. The design is gorgeous, and I loved all of the added touches. The hotel staff is very friendly and accomodating.

They keep glass bottles in your room to use and fill up at a water station on the second floor instead of bottled waters. While this is a lovely idea, in reality, it was really inconvenient, and I’d rather have had a bottled water available. Or a more central water station that’s easier to get to. But if that’s my only complaint, then I’d say my life is just fine.

Loved the one bedroom king suite! So much space to relax and enjoy the hotel amenities. The living room and bathroom especially were larger than I was expecting. Location was superb in the French quarter near great shops, cafes, and restaurants. Also close to stops on both lines of the free downtown bus routes. The room was completely quiet for a great night's sleep. The staff was incredible. This will be my go-to hotel in Charleston.

Perfect location. Place was sold out. Booking.com actually did not forward our reservation to the hotel so we weren't in the system upon arrival. Thankfully the manager resolved this issue and we were able to check in to our room. She said this happens quite often so I suggest for future bookings on this website to perhaps call the hotel and confirm that they have your reservation. God forbid you show up to the hotel and you are not in the system.

The only nuisance was housekeeping arrived late in the day and was not able to clean our room. If you have a room facing the courtyard, you may hear people below throughout the day and evening.
