Breakfast was very good, tasty and plenty of choice. The room was okay, small and tired looking. Tv reception was awful, but wifi was great. Staff too caught up in their own things to pay much attention to guests in line. first impression was of not too safe, though I'm sure it is. I was expecting more form a Sun Hotel.

Tired and need of repair room and distant staff. Restaurant staff were very good.

A five minute free hotel shuttle from airport. Preferred hotel for airline crew. Dinner in restaurant was either a la carte or buffet. We had the former, and it was very nice. Breakfast buffet was the usual big hotel style - plenty of choice with an egg cooked to order station.

Foe someone recovering from an overnight flight the essentials were perfect, great shower, comfortable bed and enough tea / coffee to make several drinks. The dinner and breakfast buffets were also great, the regular free transport to/from the airport made it a great choice. Internet was good too.

My only two slight criticisms were that there wasn't any introductory info in the hotel room so when I needed extra milk I had to find someone instead of using the phone, fortunately there was someone on the same floor who bought what I needed very quickly. At breakfast I was seated at a table next to the till desk and in front of the door to the garden so it felt rather hectic with staff communicating over my head and a a cool draft every few minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy so I would suggest that table is only used at busy times. It didnt spoil my breakfast though.

The shuttle driver was very professional getting us to the hotel quickly after our arrival. The size of our room was perfect for two people to have some space comfortably after being in airplanes for hours. The buffet meals in the restaurant had an amazing selection, were delicious, and very affordable. We arrived early in the day and enjoyed shopping in the gift shop, having a drink in the lounge, and a terrific lunch while we waited for our room to be ready.

After arriving at the airport, we had some difficulty locating where to find the shuttle to the hotel. A gentleman was kind enough to show us the way.

After a very long flight, it was so easy to catch the shuttle at the bus terminal. The wonderful bus driver load our 2 very heavy suitcases in the minivans trailer!! So very very kind!! In the hotel room was a bath/shower and I soaked of all 2 days of travelling from Barcelona to JHN. GREAT breakfast!! Huge variety of Africa!! And ANNA was the best egg baker in SA, she is the heart of the hotel. Goodmin/Goodman is the most wonderful young chef...he will go very far in any hotel worldwide!! Fantastic People!! God bless you!!

Maybe more drinking water in the room would be nice?

Great service from wonderful staff in every department. Reception, restaurant, housekeeping etc. nothing was too much trouble. Welcome drinks (complimentary) are served every day too. The shuttle service is excellent and can be used not only for coming in and out when you arrive and depart your flights, but anytime you want. (We hopped on it and popped back to the shops at the airport to pick up a few items.) The restaurant was top quality. Beautiful buffet breakfast with a great array of choice. We also throughly enjoyed the buffet dinner each night as we had guests join us for catching up. Different selection of foods each night. Top quality from delicious fresh salads to a good variety of main courses and delicious desserts. Our guests commented how great the food was too. We enjoyed room service meals too which arrived beautifully presented. We stay here each time we come in and out of South Africa (from Australia, as my husband is South African so we come home regularly to see family and friends).

Nothing to dislike.

Hi when I booked I did not know that I had booked a smoking room. Was a bit disappointed as I felt that they could have changed our room to a non smoking room when checking in as I was surprised when they mentioned a smoking room. The room smelled like smoke, not pleasant, however I was very impressed the next morning as our flight was at 6 o clock and we needed to be at the airport early, we had a on the go breakfast prepared for us and brought to us from a very friendly lady. (sorry I did not get her name) Also the shuttle service was awesome from and to the airport. Next time I come and stay will definitely make sure that I check that i am requesting a non smoking room. Thanks real value for money hotel.

Room smelled like smoke

We were welcomed by refreshments by reception as we got there around 17:00 and that’s when they put up the station, and the staff was friendly all round. The hotel facilities were also of good quality and the room was classy. I wanna send a special shoutout to Bridgette Ngwenyama-Mohlala as she helped turn my marriage proposal vision into reality. She patiently helped me plan and gather the room decoration materials from August and the occasion took place on the 31st of December. She did a stellar job with decorating the room and my Fiancé got emotional and couldn’t hold back tears when she finally saw our work. Thank you for the personalised service that you offered. We also liked the free airport shuttle.

There was really nothing that I did not like about the hotel. I even told my partner that this could be our go to hotel whenever we want something local and not necessarily out of town.

That true South African hospitality from the friendly staff, and all the amazing food makes this stay exceptional for a refreshing reset after a long flight. The buffet dinner and breakfast is next level amazing!! I usually stay at a different hotel, one which you can walk to within the airport building, as taking a shuttle seemed like extra effort, but I thought I’d try a different hotel this time. After this stay, I will definitely be returning! I always knew Southern Sun had a good reputation and high standards; and that has now been reconfirmed for me. Soft comfortable beds, great linen, clean rooms. The building itself you can see is a little older, but I honestly don’t mind it. Beautiful swimming pool area too, where you can experience the chefs doing their BBQ (braai), preparing for dinner. It made me feel so at home living abroad now. I might even make it 2 nights next time, to enjoy a bit of that vibrancy Jhb has to offer, before moving on to my next destination. Thanks for a great stay!

Absolutely everything

Check in was a breeze as well as finding the hotel. It's proximity to the airport was fantastic. The hotel has a modern look from the outside and the rooms are kept in a good condition. Breakfast is solid and the themed dinner buffet is excellent and phenomenal if you don't have dietary restrictions. No airport/aircraft noise was ever noticed while we were staying here. It's worth noting this is our second stay here.

It's not a major thing, but I think it's time for a small upgrade of the hotel in certain aspects: Not having plugs for phone chargers by the bed is really frustrating. There are plugs though at the work station across from your bed with the necessary plugs to charge these items. I prefer hard mattresses above the softer ones or those that are due to be replaced. All of this is just personal preference and all the rest makes up for this small items -- it really is just personal preference above something actually being wrong.
