Best hotel of its class we have found in NZ. Functional room decor. Well maintained and conspicuously clean, spacious and modern room. Soft, comfortable upholstery that’s obviously vacuumed and spot cleaned regularly. Paint around light switches and doorknobs clean. Good quality bedding. We had mild weather so didn’t need heat or air conditioning. We did keep the bathroom window open for fresh air in there. Toiletries were a little disappointing with a combination shampoo/conditioner product. However, what they did supply was not at all harsh and had a pleasant fragrance. The restaurant was similar in attention to detail. Textures, flavors, sauces and garnishes were all thoughtful and carefully prepared. We did order a la cart breakfast, so I can’t comment about the buffet. Every staffer I engaged with was helpful. There were adequate power outlets.

The exterior is a little off putting. Don’t worry, it’s fine. They spent the money on your comfort instead!

As you approach the Copthorne Hotel in Greymouth - you can’t miss it as it’s the tallest building in town) the tired facade (painted grey!) doesn’t do the hotel any favours. Nor do the creaks and groans the lift made on the way up to the 6th floor! My room was well appointed with TWO double beds. I’ve never been a fan of open hanging spaces rather than cupboards.

I enjoyed a good evening meal (huge position of fish & chips) but charging $14 for 12oz of IPA is daylight robbery - that’s the equivalent of £9.30 a pint, for a locally brewed beer - their justification “we’re a fine dining establishment” . . . . really? And they could do with replacing the wooden windowsill which was riddled with woodworm holes. Otherwise, super friendly and helpful staff.

An older hotel, recently done up. The room was spacious, comfortable and we had a great view of the river. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, we had two separate vanities which was great! There are electric blankets. The staff were lovely and a great restaurant, we enjoyed the evening meals, but didn't have any other meals there.

The room was very nice, although clearly done up on the cheap with a few things missing - no bathroom extraction, wall heater without cooling (there is a separate stand alone fan).

This is like stepping back in time a little. The whole vibe of this hotel is subtle and comfortable. It is worth staying here just for the restaurant downstairs and very comfortable beds. The staff are top notch and very friendly. When I mentioned I wasn't feeling well they let me move my reserved time to earlier in the restaurant. They had great tips and ideas for things to do, books to read and local arts to view. The view from the 4th floor of the river entrance and the town was really nice, I particularly loved having the balcony door wide open listening to the ocean and the town just living daily life.

I didn't have any negative experiences here.

The beds and shower were amazing! The room was at a comfortable temperature without having to turn any heating on. The hotel was so accessible to the TranzAlpine train station, especially when walking.The menu evening/breakfast choices and food were amazing and the staff hospitality was superb 😊 Pounamu Pathway - Māwhera was amazing, highly recommend.

Setting up the Smart tv and linking it to your phone was challenging. Perhaps an individual room booklet with simple instructions to follow would be ideal. The stand in the main foyer with pamphlets of attractions to do around the whole West Coast were great. Again perhaps a an individual room booklet recommending things to do specifically in Greymouth would be awesome. It was definitely more challenging to navigate options without a vehicle for the duration of our stay. When I pulled my bedsheets back for the evening I discovered a peanut or top laying awaiting on the bottom bedsheet.

Location great. Not too far to walk to train station. Evening dinner menu good, food excellent.Service was great, thanks to Mel. Plus young waiter who was also very attentive. Breakfast dissapointed. Staff need to look at replenishing food items before running out of items. Eg potato, Hash Browns butter portions etc., Otherwise breakfast was enjoysble. Heating in bedroom and hot water excellent. Plenty of towels etc.

Outlook of hotel grounds and main signage coulfd do with refreshing and tidying. Not what I expected from a Copthorne Hotel. STANDARDS. Need Hotel Information eg emergency procedures, surrounding area information in a booklet to be placed in your rooms.

Comfortable bed, spacious room and staff were lovely. When we came down to breakfast, the staff were trying to deal with a large group of Japanese tourists, some of whom did not see why they had to come down to breakfast at their allocated time and then decimated the buffet breakfast while other guests were trying to get food. The staff handled it very well and with great patience ( it was like herding cats) The chef brought us over croissants, as twice fresh ones had been brought out and were immediately taken by the large group. Overall a lovely stay.

Hotel outside needs a little tlc.

The modern room with twin queen beds and seating area. Great large TV and modern lift, hotel corridors, lobby etc. walking distance to train and shops.

The room was late being ready, not ideal after a long journey. ‘Short staffed’ given as reason, not good either. House keeping being rushed, probably lead to not realising the light flickered in the bathroom, a shard of glass on the counter and the shower head falling off, when turned on. However, staff took note of repairs needed. The safe didn’t work either but was given a key for of stay. Otherwise, a pleasant surprise in a small town.

Location, parking, large room, comfortable bed, friendly staff.

Sadly the restaurant was closed the evening we were there and it was one night that we would have ‘eaten in’ having travelled a lot. We had a long wait for breakfast (cooked to order) but we had no rush to have to be anywhere and the food was excellent when it came. The staff explained the wait and were really pleasant and friendly, and we were genuinely ok about it and said so. Only raising this as on our travels it has been common to be short staffed in many places (not just in NZ) and if we had booked, something it may have been a case of missing breakfast.

Most spacious hotel room I've seen.

The only thing I didn't enjoy was that a lady at front desk told us to have breakfast next morning when we checked in. When we did so and checked out we were then told the breakfast was not included so we had to pay. I wish the lady had checked our info before telling us to do so. I've got different bookings for the entire journey and I won't be able to memorize all the details ie breakfast so relied on the staff's instructions. Apparently shouldn't have relied on them.
