Prime location on the lakefront, short walk to city center with shops and many restaurants. Very good buffet breakfast in main restaurant with attentive staff and beautiful view to the lake. Public spaces and lawns were very well maintained, which gave a sort of luxury feeling

The room and bath room were smallish, could be larger in this price category. We were allocated a room on first floor, and had only partial lakeview obstructed by vegetation. We asked to change to upper floors, but no flexibility offered. The room and bath were spotless clean on arrival but daily cleaning could be better. Very unusual to see a dirty toilet in this hotel class.

We were arriving early and the staff worked well to enable us to check in ahead of the normal check in time. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. Our air-conditioned, balcony room had an excellent view of the lake and was well serviced every day. The sheltered pool area was very good with towels provided. The hotel is a very short walk to bars, restaurants and the town centre. Ferry services are also just a short walk away for tours to the islands and other lakeside towns. A good choice of breakfast was available and we were given the opportunity for pastries and a drink prior to our early departure as it would be before the restaurant opened. Staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

The restaurant food was good, but the service at the evening meal felt rushed on the one occasion we ate at the hotel.

Excellent location. Quiet at night, certainly in rooms at rear of hotel. Good choice at breakfast with efficient service by waiting staff in restaurant. Clean and spacious bedroom (superior double). Welcoming reception with lovely fresh flowers on display.

Our good impression of the room was let down by the bathroom. This had a spa bath with overhead shower but located in a narrow alcove with very restricted access. It was not easy to climb into the small part of the bath that was accessible and, for an older couple with some restricted mobility, this was a major drawback. The area over the bath also had no light so it was very dark and unwelcoming to take a shower. A much better solution would be to replace the bath with a walk-in shower tray with improved lighting.

This is our 2nd time staying at this fabulous hotel this time for 5 nights as part of a 3 week euro road trip. Like the last time here we stayed in one of the six annex rooms overlooking the swimming pool. The room was a great size and clean and comfortable with good aircon. My Coeliac wife was again well catered for at breakfast with a shelf full of Gluten Free products plus soft boiled eggs each morning on request. Lunch times we tended to eat at the poolside with a reasonable menu on offer including GF options for Kim. The staff in all areas of the hotel are very friendly. I wish I had got names but special thanks to the young lad who works the poolside kiosk, the bellboy and the Juventus supporter guy who worked the inside bar who was great craiq. All in all I would definitely recommend this great family run hotel and we hope to be back for another stay.

Nothing to dislike

Brilliant location and close to all amenities. Day trips to the islands and neighbouring towns is really worth doing and the national very comfortable large boats do regular trips. Avoid the smaller boats. The view from the room overlooking the lake and the main promenade was wonderful. Sitting outside on the balcony was wonderfully relaxing in the evenings, watching the sunset and passing boats. All the staff were so friendly and well-coming. Breakfast, pool and poolside bar was superb. Really good value for money. The bed was very very comfortable. Will definitely come again.

The location was perfect ideally placed, close to the railway station and the centre of town. The view from the bedroom window outstanding. The swimming pool was just the right size. The room was serviced everyday with the bar restocked. The restaurant staff could not be more helpfull. The front of house staff were very helpful also

The breakfast was lovely plenty of choice but I feel a couple of variations on the hot items would ho down well ie someone available to make a fresh omelette with peppers, tomatoes, cheese etc or poached eggs

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The pool was amazing, especially in a 30C+ heat. The loungers are handy with an overhead cover for shade (first time I’ve seen these), although we couldn’t figure out how to regulate the height of the lounger. The staff were friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated getting to check in hours before we were meant to. The 12pm check-out is also very convenient. The room was nice. It was good to have the shutters and a balcony. The bed was comfortable. It was clean in our room and overall the hotel. The location was great too.

The air con in the room could have been stronger, it was still quite hot. It was hard to lock our room from the outside, even when the red light flashed, you could still push the door open, so had to slam it shut for it to work. The hotel doesn’t have an iron, which is quite surprising and they charge for ironing items - this should be complimentary given lack of basic items like an iron. I thought the breakfast was quite basic too.

This hotel was immaculate and very well maintained. The hotel is in a very good location, only 10mins walk into the centre of the town. Our room had a lake view which was spectacular. The room was a little dated in decor but was very clean and housekeeping was very efficient. The shower had great power and we had clean towels every day. Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection of foods. The staff were very efficient in refilling items. Waiter staff were very pleasant and worked hard to keep the customers happy.

The beds were a little hard for my taste, and the general decor of the property was a little dated. We were not trusted to be given pool towels which seemed a little petty, they had to be registered against the room and a charge made if not returned!

Lake view room was lovely - stunning view and enjoyed being able to sit out on the balcony. Lovely dining area with lake view and an extensive breakfast. Excellent location, easy walk from the station; easy access to restaurants, shops, lake promenade and jetty for boats to the Borromean Islands. Staff friendly and helpful. Good sized swimming pool, nice pool area

Shortage of sun loungers, not enough for everyone wanting to enjoy the pool at busy periods. (This was peak season, however)

The Astoria is in a good location to Stresa. We had a room overlooking the lake, however there is an extra charge, but well worth to have a lovely view.

A little noisy at times as located in front of a fairly busy road. We had a leak in our bathroom which we complained about three times, although a man sealed the shower door this was not the problem & we had water everyday over the floor & were just given towels to adsorb it for the whole week!
