The staff member at reception on our arrival greeted us warmly and offered us a lot of information to help us enjoy our stay in Heidelberg. Our room was spacious (good for a family of four). I was glad our window did not open on to the terrace, because smokers used the terrace, and I would not have liked the cigarette smoke drifting into our room. The view of the castle from the terrace was just as we hoped for - excellent. We enjoyed watching the castle lights come on at dusk. The location of the building was splendid for simply walking outside and into the heart of the old town. Don't be put off by the hotel being on top of a parking garage! Also, there wasn't any disturbance at the hotel from the funicular that runs to and from the bottom of the building, since it runs quietly and is shielded from view by trees. The breakfast was of good quality and servers were attentive. Every member of the desk greeted us warmly. Books and magazines and umbrellas were available to borrow. We felt very lucky to have enjoyed this accommodation.
It wasn't pleasant to have cigarette smoke, from people on the terrace, drift into the dining area when we were having breakfast. Also, some of the rooms opened directly into the small breakfast dining room, so I was glad our room was located further away, along a corridor. I was hesitant about the hotel entrance being via a parking garage elevator, but that was okay.

The room is spacious - unlike what you may expect in Europe generally, and had beautiful views of the castle Heidelberg. The furniture and decor was really nice, including a small kitchenette, dining table, sofa within the room, with still adequate space to move. The hotel is a small one, and has the nice feel of a traditional inn which is good. It has breakfast area and a higher level where there is a very nice large terrace to sit out when the weather is good. the breakfast itself was very good. Again especially compared to European standards. A wide selection of fruits, breads, juices, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts and hard boiled eggs. Very well supported by staff who were obviously Unv students trying to earn some well earned money. Tea and coffee was served on the table and overall attention and warmth from staff and management was very appreciated. We are no strangers to the cold, unempathic hospitality of Northern Europe so this was definitely a nice change. Location wise it is bang in the center of Altstadt, the touristic spot of Heidelberg and right below the hotel the funicular runs up to the castle. There is a bus stop conveninetly located right in front of the hotel and everything touristic including the main street is 1-2 min walking distance. We took the bus from the trainstation to the hotel and Uber back to train station. Both within 15 min and cost Euros 2 each and 15 respectively. While we felt the price for this property was a bit higher than the average for a similar property in Germany, we would definitely come back here to the same room, if we do visit Heidelberg again
There is not much to complain about. We found the bed mattress and pillows a bit too soft, but thats a personal preference I suppose. The bathroom was a bit spartan. Some additional amenities offered therein might be a good touch. While this is not a complaint - but a having vegan glutenfree options fr breakfast might be useful for those who choose or forced to become for health reasons. Another point - and this is just for future guests to note is that the hotel itself is on top of a car park, so not visible frontage of a hotel. howeever the hosts explain the way to the location and up to the hotel very clearly in their messages to all guests, in English and German, and so that is to be appreciated again and thanked for.

Very good breakfast selection, with staff being very attentive to serving coffee/tea. The location exceeded our expectations as it was right below the castle and the hotel terrace offered lovely gardens to sit out in looking at the castle. It is a smaller hotel meaning fewer guests, The parking access is most reassuring and secure as it is right below the hotel accommodations. Staff were exceptionally helpful and polite and enjoyable to engage with.
Everything was great. But we had some trouble finding access to P12 parking garage entrance and the machine for paying. Yet there is good signage to P12. You just have to be looking for it all the way in.

From the moment I arrived at Hotel am Schloss, I was impressed by the excellent service. The staff were genuinely friendly and went out of their way to provide helpful information about the area. My room was a welcome retreat – very comfortable and well-appointed. The hotel's location is outstanding, allowing for quick and easy exploration of the historic district. I also thoroughly enjoyed the excellent breakfast each morning. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was so pleasant and welcoming. I highly recommend Hotel am Schloss to anyone visiting Heidelberg.

The receptionist was really kind and recommended us some places to visit. She explained it very well and gave us maps and everything. She also helped us to get warm water and coffee late at night. The hotel was right in the centre so we didn't have to travel too far away... the longest street in Europe is close by as well, it is very long and has tons of Christmas markets around Christmas... would recommend it but you will get tired....
There isn't a wide variety of options for vegetarians in breakfast. Don't recommend going up the funicular in extreme winter, it was snowing and freezing, also plan this activity before hand, we went there around 4 30 and only had an hour to visit everywhere, we couldn't go to the fort or museum, go earlier...

Location is superb, literally right on the tram station to the old castle and a short walk to old town and all the attractions. The staff is excellent. Jasmina at the front desk was so sweet and extremely helpful. We arrived earlier than expected and they were able to expedite our room readiness. Breakfast is lovely, especially if you sit on the terrace that has views of the castle. The rooms are clean, comfortable beds and well maintained. They are not super spacious but we didn’t spend time in there other than to sleep.

Super location. We had a great castle view from our room (nr 18). The lift gives direct access to the hotel, the carpark, the train to the castle, and within a few metres the old town. Perfect situation for all the sights. Friendly staff, especially the young man who checked us in at 2pm on 2nd April. He went to so much trouble to explain all the tourist activities. Breakfast was fine. The roof-top terrace with castle view must be great in nice weather.
The bathroom was tiny and rather old looking. No shampoo or shower gel. Several rooms are accessed directly from the breakfast room, so I would always request the castle side. Not the hotel's fault of course, but we found the car park very tricky - almost full, confusing signs, dead ends, narrow spaces.

Perfectly located for the Weihnacht markt. Receptionist was extremely friendly and gave us many recommendations for local places. Rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was nice and the youngsters that ran it were enthusiastic about their jobs. Parking was a breeze and not tight on space. Right next to train to the schloss and wonderful views from the room.
Bathroom door kept hitting the shower base. Couldn't be helped as the bathroom was very small but was a pain at 2am to make a banging sound and wake up your spouse. Maybe a plastic bumper/pad would help?

Everything ok. Due to unexpected circumstances we arrived later than expected, but we were welcomed just fine. We had a good room, lovely look on the old city and the castle and a good bed. Breakfast had all it needed, was fine. Especially the night receptionist was very welcoming. I would certainly go back here! Loved the fact that we could park the car and take the lift to hotel reception. It was a lot of driving around to find the hotel though, but we managed :) with the help of the night receptionist on the phone.

This small hotel is a hidden gem, with fantastic views over the old city and splendid views up to the Heidelberg Schloss (castle) Once you get past the uninspiring entrance which is on the ground level of a parking garage and travel up to the 7th level, you appreciate the compact accommodation nestled on the roof of the garage, and take in the fabulous views of the Schloss from the rooftop terrace. We had lovely experiences eating breakfast on the terrace with these views, and had similar charming views over the rooftops of the Old Town. We were 1-2 minutes away from the centre of the Old Town- Kornmarkt or HauptMarkt areas, and the funicular railway up to the castle was on the ground level of our hotel. Amazing. The rooms were comfortable although compact, and breakfast was included in the rate- there was a good selection of breads, meats, cheeses, fruit etc for a typical and satisfying Continental breakfast. We would stay here again for the views and location, and can recommend this to others.
Ground floor entrance appearance is grungy, but not dirty or unsafe. Rooms are small but suited to travellers needing a place to stay and a base for sightseeing. There was no air conditioning (although we did not need it in our stay in early May). There was no room safe for valuables, although we did not feel unsafe or vulnerable.
