Location good. Walkable to Hawick and close to main roads to explore. Breakfast was amazing & good quality. Chef Bob was amazing & recommended local place for evening meal. Has private parking & feels like in country estate. We stayed in a lodge and very good size. Amazingly clean. Staff were friendly..

Small niggles but could do with a blind on the bathroom window in lodge. It looks out to back car park, but if light is on, can see through frosted glass (& cat patk used at night). Also, the toilet seat was a little wobbly (new but didn't seem to fit or was not fitted correctly). Lastly, if an event is on during the day / early evening, parking can be a little tight. Locally, in Hawick and the Borders, the shops close from 1 pm on Saturday, but loads of places to walk & explore

Nice setting with parking and short walk into town and local park and museum. Large room with view of gardens. Nice breakfast.

When booking in the gent at reception made no mention of when and where breakfast was served, made no mention or enquired about us requiring evening meal. Also no mention of a bar in the hotel. We had to ask this when we came back in after a walk and finding a Weatherspoons in town to eat at. Guy at Reception came across as quite short with us. Could have done with towel radiator being on as we showered after driving and being out for a walk and our towels were still damp in the morning. We had clean towels on the radiator but found the following morning on the back of the bathroom door towels and bathrobes which had obviously been used by the previous occupants of the room. Very disappointing to find this.

The breakfast was 5 star quality ingredients and very generous portions as good as much more expensive hotels. The couple who run it are lovely especially the man had a lovely chat with him at breakfast and they are very welcoming the decor is lovely proper Scottish country house feel to it.

Even if we count £20 for the breakfast I would expect a little more of the room facilities for the price. Pretty much the same as a travel lodge in a large city centre for £35 compared to the £115 I paid for me and my 7 year old. Be nice to have an extra set of towels for my daughter as I only got one, maybe a coffee machine and access to streaming services since we where not paying for a view. The dogs are mainly friendly a bit barky if caught of guard so if your wary of little dogs something to think about.

Stunning building with high ceilings and elegant cornices in many rooms. Beautiful gardens with a dog friendly area. The room was large and elegant and very comfortable. It is a very quiet location so I had a great sleep. Everything was dog friendly. Plenty of parking in front of the hotel. Easy ten minute walk into Hawick or there is a bus stop immediately outside the hotel. The owner has done a good job of getting a decent WiFi signal all over this large building. Breakfast was good and the coffee was excellent.

Menu was a bit limited in the evening - however I enjoyed my burger and chips.

Great spacious rooms and a nice reakfast in the morning. Full hotel is very clean and tidy, bedroom was extremely large with a great balcony looking over the gardens outside being able to see the squirrels in the trees.

Nothing that we didnt like, but to note - the staff werent the most welcoming. Emails sent prior to our arrival discussing an early check in were responded by one word answers and not very helpful and when we first arrived a small complication with our early check in but this got resolved and staff were okay after this.

The room was spacious with a comfy seat. Loved having the balcony. There was a bar with lovely seating and a quieter room with good views of the grounds. Host and staff welcoming and friendly. Grounds were good.Good choice for breakfast. Location to town was ideal.

It would have been nice to have more information about the town in a booklet. There was a sign in the room stating the water wasn't for drinking so more bottled water would have been appreciated. There wasn't much hanging space for clothes. More details of food options would have been handy. Bath/shower was a bit awkward would have been better with just a shower.

lovely old hotel with stylish rooms and nice staff. perfect for our trip to attend a wedding nearby. breakfast was really nice and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. we had elderly relatives with us and the staff were very helpful. bathroom was huge with an excellent shower.

the room was missing a couple of things that would have made the stay even better. no tissues in the room and could have done with more plugs (old building I guess). Towels could have been of a better quality and there were only a couple of bottles water provided despite a notice saying that the water wasn't for drinking.

Staff were very helpful and polite. The hotel did not provide evening meals but the staff member on reception was very helpful and arranged for us to have a meal in a local pub which was dog friendly. The accomodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable and staff were happy to bring extra toast if wanted.

The only disappointment was that the hotel did not provide evening meals but in fairness staff were helpful in ensuring we could access food in the evening.

Beautiful building, peaceful setting. Large room with a very comfy bed, we both slept really well. Really enjoyed the afternoon tea in the bar area watching a 6 nations match. Location really worked for us as we were going to a party which was being held at one of the local rugby clubs, which was more or less across the road. The night we stayed it was such a clear night, the stars were lighting up the sky - we live in a city so we don't really get to see the stars much.

Rubber mat for the bath/shower - just a suggestion.

What an amazing little Scottish gem this is. A beautiful country house nestled in the most glorious gardens and decorated to such a high standard throughout that the owners should be rightly very proud of. When booking Accommodation, if you have pets, one of the requirements is that it is ‘dog friendly’ There is a huge difference between being dog ‘tolerant’ and dog ‘friendly’ ….. the Balcary House falls into the latter spades ! This certainly ticks that box in all areas and our dogs were made hugely welcome with rooms specifically assigned as dog friendly….. There was even an enclosed paddock to allow the dogs a good run as well … something not always available Fabulous residents areas with a well stocked bar and wonderful owners who are happy to chat. Breakfast was superb and I thoroughly recommend the porridge😋 . The lodges that are specifically designed to enable dogs to stay with you are spacious, beautifully decorated with a tasteful design everything was spotless clean. Thank you so much for making our trip across the borders so pleasant we will certainly be back

Nothing - it was perfect
