Stunning building with high ceilings and elegant cornices in many rooms. Beautiful gardens with a dog friendly area. The room was large and elegant and very comfortable. It is a very quiet location so I had a great sleep. Everything was dog friendly. Plenty of parking in front of the hotel. Easy ten minute walk into Hawick or there is a bus stop immediately outside the hotel. The owner has done a good job of getting a decent WiFi signal all over this large building. Breakfast was good and the coffee was excellent.
Menu was a bit limited in the evening - however I enjoyed my burger and chips.

The room was spacious with a comfy seat. Loved having the balcony. There was a bar with lovely seating and a quieter room with good views of the grounds. Host and staff welcoming and friendly. Grounds were good.Good choice for breakfast. Location to town was ideal.
It would have been nice to have more information about the town in a booklet. There was a sign in the room stating the water wasn't for drinking so more bottled water would have been appreciated. There wasn't much hanging space for clothes. More details of food options would have been handy. Bath/shower was a bit awkward would have been better with just a shower.

lovely old hotel with stylish rooms and nice staff. perfect for our trip to attend a wedding nearby. breakfast was really nice and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. we had elderly relatives with us and the staff were very helpful. bathroom was huge with an excellent shower.
the room was missing a couple of things that would have made the stay even better. no tissues in the room and could have done with more plugs (old building I guess). Towels could have been of a better quality and there were only a couple of bottles water provided despite a notice saying that the water wasn't for drinking.

Beautiful building, peaceful setting. Large room with a very comfy bed, we both slept really well. Really enjoyed the afternoon tea in the bar area watching a 6 nations match. Location really worked for us as we were going to a party which was being held at one of the local rugby clubs, which was more or less across the road. The night we stayed it was such a clear night, the stars were lighting up the sky - we live in a city so we don't really get to see the stars much.
Rubber mat for the bath/shower - just a suggestion.

Fantastic setting, lovely house with pleasant rooms and fantastic history! The chef at breakfast was fantastic, very accommodating for us.
We would have preferred a room where the bathroom was located inside it, instead we had The room that had a separate bathroom across the landing. Perhaps the booking.com could inform customers of this when selecting a room type

What an amazing little Scottish gem this is. A beautiful country house nestled in the most glorious gardens and decorated to such a high standard throughout that the owners should be rightly very proud of. When booking Accommodation, if you have pets, one of the requirements is that it is ‘dog friendly’ There is a huge difference between being dog ‘tolerant’ and dog ‘friendly’ ….. the Balcary House falls into the latter spades ! This certainly ticks that box in all areas and our dogs were made hugely welcome with rooms specifically assigned as dog friendly….. There was even an enclosed paddock to allow the dogs a good run as well … something not always available Fabulous residents areas with a well stocked bar and wonderful owners who are happy to chat. Breakfast was superb and I thoroughly recommend the porridge😋 . The lodges that are specifically designed to enable dogs to stay with you are spacious, beautifully decorated with a tasteful design everything was spotless clean. Thank you so much for making our trip across the borders so pleasant we will certainly be back
Nothing - it was perfect

A lovely building and a very nice bedroom.
Very strange that there was no draft beer. Guinness was the only thing available on tap. Only bar meals were available in the hotel and the kitchen closed at 7.30pm. ( This was a Saturday evening)! Lack of sockets in the bedroom and none beside the bed. Reliance on adaptors to power TV, internet router and kettle all from the same socket. Is this legal in a commercial property? Had to go in search of a staff member to get Internet code. No notice of it in the room. Bathroom was good size but wash hand basin was very very small.

The hotel was a building I lived in during the mid 80's. It has vast sentimental value to me with many memories. It looks fantastic from both the outside and the inside. There are 2 resident dogs....lovely wee things and very friendly. It's a short wander to the local park which is beautiful and a short walk to the town centre of Hawick. Lovely, vibrant town. The staff during our stay were lovely and very welcoming.
I wouldn't go so far as to say there were things I didn't like, but it might have been nice to have a small fridge in the room. And USB ports.

The location was great for us. The hotel was very well appointed. clean and comfortable. The owner and staff were friendly and well informed with local knowledge. The room was a great size and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast had a good selection and was lovely, tea, coffee and toast was regularly offered.
There was nothing to like. The bath was not so comfortable but that is a personal preference and I was thankful there was both bath and shower in the room.

Great location for our needs and a beautiful setting and location for the Hotel and grounds. Very well maintained and remote yet close enough to town. Great staff and breakfast, they helped with our request for an early start and prompt breakfast.
We had the option of going to Hawick for dinner but preferred to stay at the Hotel, a larger evening menu would have been nice but the food we did have was excellent.
