Onsen is the highlight, great budget option. The staff were also so helpful. They let us drop our bags off before check in and helped us with a shuttle back to the train station when we checked out at no extra cost. It's a little old but the onsen and staff make up for it.

It's a little bit away from the train station and up a big hill so plan ahead how you will get from the train station to the hotel if you don't have a car.

the counter staff are attentive and helpful. Walking to the hotel from the train station with luggage is quite an exercise due to the hotel at high ground. The good news is that one could actually use their sister hotel shuttle.. which is a real savior though I am not sure if you arrive in the morning (since check in is at 3pm), there is shuttle provided or not.

the room wifi signal is weak and we need to use our own data plan.

We felt very relaxed and comfortable at the hotel. The en suite open air onsen and the public onsen were both wonderful. Many reviews talked about the dated facilities but we however felt it gave old-timer charm. The only drawback is that the location is a bit out of the town. Having said that the newly opened cafeteria provided dinner options which suited us fine. We will stay there again.

The onsen on the verandah of the room was amazing at the end of a long day of walking. The hotel is a little unusual, by western standards, but the staff are great, the room comfortable and Nikko is amazing in autumn colours.

It is a little challenging to get from the hotel to the station where all the tours and buses leave from, but not impossible. The hotel has a shuttle the does three trips in during the morning and three out in the afternoon, there are local buses, though not regular, and a taxi costs less than 1000 yen.

Female receptionist was very friendly and fluent in English. Onsen bath on the room balcony was nice. Free shuttle to the train station after checking out was appreciated. The private onsen was decent, although we wished the fence was lower as to see the garden.

The bed mattress was a little too firm. The generator outside the front was too loud making the balcony onsen non relaxing. All of the awnings on the front of the building were torn and ragged (unlike old photos on here).

this is a nice hotel where you can enjoy the onsen on your balcony!! or enjoying the other onsen outside the hotel... it's a big plus to have this outdoor bath!! but be aware that there is no bathroom inside the room!! the shower is outside!! so if you plan to go there in the fall or winter be ready!!! BUT they have indoor bathroom in the onsen nearby the hotel...the breakfast is a nice buffet!!! mostly Japanese style but very good and offer you a lot of choices!!!

of course, I was shocked at first when I didn't saw the bathroom in the bedroom!! but it make sense in this kind of hotel who is really focus on the onsen...Japanese people are used to that..but if you go there for the first time it might me a bit confusing!!! other than , everything was great!!

Staff were great! The in room Onsen and outdoor facially were both really nice; used them both! They provided a shuttle to and from the station

It was very comfortable but could use a little updating. The walls may be a bit thin for some, I could hear someone snoring before I fell asleep

The common onsen is great but having the private onsen on the balcony is amazing! It's also quite fun to take your morning shower in the balcony but it's probably because we were there in April

Staff were very friendly Breakfast was very nice and great Dinner options also. Room was comfy with a nice size onsen and shower on the balcony. Lovely old Isuzu car as you walk into the building.

The staff was super accommodating and helpful. The shuttle to and from town was excellent. I enjoyed the private and public onsens
