Found this place somewhat randomly and spent 3 night in their basic rooms, with the deck. The architecture, interior design, food, and most importantly service were impeccable and very high value for the money we spent. Especially the staff.. they went above an beyond to make sure you felt welcome and pampered. Great location if you want to spend a bit of time away and up in the mountains (hills) of Portugal. Highly recommended. p.s. We did make a stop for dinner at the higher rated (5 star) hotel owned by the same group. This location compared to that felt nicer. Both the interior design and people felt a lot warmer here.

- The location is stunning: perched on top of a mountain, it offers breathtaking views of Manteigas and has numerous hiking trails nearby. - The food is excellent, both at breakfast and dinner. While dining there, don't expect Portuguese prices, but you can anticipate a high-quality meal. - We used the SPA, and the staff was exceptional.

- The swimming pool is unsupervised, so if you have to share it with a group of rude people, you end up not using it. I understand the fault lies with the guests, but setting some rules would be appropriate. - The restaurant staff at dinner can be somewhat pushy, strongly wanting you to order items you don't want. - WiFi doesn't work outside which can be a bit inconvenient

The hotel is very cozy and beautiful, nice spa, rooms are spacious enough and with all comforts. The hotel staff was helpful and attentive to detail, we got a welcome afternoon coffe and snacks which included different types of delicious handmade food and beverages, then welcome drinks before dinner where we were offered Porto wine. The hotel staff took great care of all guests. Amazing hotel, I'd love to go back, very much recommended!

The design of the hotel: a perfect harmony between building elements (concrete, wood, glass) colours and textures. Furniture design, quality and comfort was also premium (Area furniture company?). Visiting the Burel Factory and learning that Isabel was behind these projects, was worth searching the internet and learn more on how these projects have developed. Should also mention the staff: all of them very, very good.

Very nice staff; possibility to check in earlier (regular check in is only at 4pm); the breakfast is fantastic; the bed and bedding is 5 stars; the decor, in particular the mid century modern furniture in common areas.

There is not much of a view of the mountains from the mountain view rooms. Children under 16 years old have limited access to the pool. This is indeed a common rule but not usually in hotels where children have to have their own room and are practically fully paying customers. Also should be explicitly added to the information on booking.

An amazing hotel made from the sanatorium. Very fancy and new, design is well thought! We really enjoyed our stay! If you don't want to plan anything, you can fully rely on the hotel staff - they have tours, kayak rentals, and star-gazing activities for you. The breakfast is rich and delicious, also they have 4 o'clock tea and coffee - exactly what you need after the hike. August is the season of falling stars, we enjoyed Star Gazing activity in the mountains and we got to see tens of falling stars! the fires in the night were cosy, sauna is good, the pool was almost empty and the sunbed area on the grass is convenient for relaxing.

The only downside is that we didn't expect the hotel and the rooms will be rather small, everything is built like you are surrounded by wooden boxes, a bit of a sanatorium - Soviet or midcentury style. But still very new, designed well, and It has its charm! The balconies are cute to relax, but they are designed as open, so not ideally isolated from each other. These are elements of design, of course, just to be aware of. We will definitely come back, as we enjoyed our stay and we hope to see this region in winter.

Mountain top, scandanavian vibe of the hotel and rooms. There were 3 different "living rooms" you could relax in by a fireplace or have an evening cocktail before dinner, all had lovely views and decor. The staff waited on us hand and foot, they insisted we go sit and relax and they would bring anything we needed to us. The room was absolutely cozy and roomy - the shower was incredible! Spacious and the kind of space you just want to stay an extra night just so you can have a day to sleep in and enjoy the bed. Spa treatments were outstanding! We had a couples massage and mini facials and they were wonderful. Tea time is complimentary in the afternoon and offers a lovely assortment of hearty snacks. Drinks are always available. Dinner was wonderful (recommend reservations probably mostly so they can try to even out the dinner times since this is the only place to eat - I believe the setting times were 730/830 and 930pm). Breakfast was wonderful and was included. Hotel offers guided hikes but we were not able to participate this time, but I'm sure they are lovely given the remote setting. There is nothing to do at this location except relax, so prepare to decompress and be taken care of!

Our stay was too short, but I'm so glad we got to experience this hotel! There is nothing to dislike if you go realizing it will take quite a drive to reach it and that once you are there, there isn't anything to do other than relax, spa, eat and hike! :)

We had no prior knowledge of the Serra da Estrela national park or region - it was very unique in its natural environment and rather like a moonscape with breathtaking stone formations. The hotel reflected this natural theme in its use of Scandinavian influenced design and materials and it was a peaceful and pleasant experience with enthusiastic helpful staff. The dinner was very special and the service and attention provided to us was excellent. We would recommend that you visit the Burel Factory in Manteigas which is associated with the hotel’s owners who have been instrumental in reviving the local traditional wool industry. The factory tour was fascinating.

The location is unbelievably beautiful with sweeping views over the Serra Estrela. Picnic lunches were available and we sat out on our little deck and enjoyed that. The spa treatments are wonderful and as we visited in Spring, there are lovely walks among the otherworldly environment to do.

The rooms are extremely small, beds small and hard, and the bathroom wall is smoky glass so if you leave the light on it shines through and is too bright - the alternative is tripping over in the dark if you need the bathroom during the night. There is no elevator and the stairs between reception and the restaurant and rooms are steep and poorly lit.

- Staff were very nice and always made sure we were enjoying ourselves - The food quality at the restaurant was amazing, very creative and refined dishes, but always with a nod to the local delicacies - The SPA therapists were very nice to us, and we loved the massage we ordered. We will go again for sure!

- The picnic basket could have been better for the price. Item replacements should be an option instead of simply removing items that are not to the taste of the guest.
