I really enjoyed my stay at Gaikou Lodge, what a hidden gem in the beautiful town of Swellendam. The staff were genuinely friendly and made me feel right at home. The mountain views, guinea fowl, and occasional baboon sightings all add a touch of character and charm to the place. Breakfast was okay, but I would really appreciate the option of plain yogurt to have with the muesli; some guests are diabetic and can't have that much sugar first thing in the morning. The rooms feel luxurious and spacious, and I liked the practical spaces for hanging clothes and storing luggage. Great accommodation overall.

A full-length mirror was surprisingly missing from such a large and luxurious room. Why, oh why?

Location and close proximity to the Marloth Nature Reserve and Swellendam town. Also the building were our room was situated had a lot of privacy.

Small inconveniences that did not impact our full experience, however it is good to mention. - WiFi: not stable and slow speeds, needed to resort to roaming through our mobile devices. - Toilet: the toilet seat was not placed level, therefore sitting slightly skew. - Breakfast: no water option at the buffet table or available coffee variations (cappuccino, espresso etc).

The location with mountain views and yet very close to restaurants was really great. The best thing about this listing, for me, was the views when deiving in, from the room and also while resting in the common areas. This is a retreat for those who want to just enjoy nature and recoup. Again, we arrived late and were welcomed in and directed to our room with ease. The 2 ladies running it, and serving breakfast were very friendly and welcoming. Very professional too.

The location and the environment were perfect .

We have been to Gaikou in 2022 , everything was perfect , we invited friends to come back again this time but we felt that it was not as clean as it used to be and some items have some stains and surely they need to be replaced : ( and one side of the bed was sagging . Grass on paths were overgrown , so sad to see that a beautiful lodge with poor maintenance .

Great location, stunning views. Rooms are very spacious, comfortable beds and very relaxing outdoors with a large patio. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared. Excellent service by the employees on duty. Staff always friendly and helpful.

Yet again, we do feel the rooms needs a facelift, furniture and decor is old and dated, but beds are super nice and comfortable. They do need extra assistance in the kitchen, some guests got impatient, due to the long wait, very busy during breakfast time.

The breakfast was excellent and well presented. The property is beautiful, calm and peaceful with surrounding mountains. We would like to revisit Gaikou Lodge in future. Thank you for your hospitality.

The TV did not work due to a faulty plug and could not be fixed as we only discovered the problem after nine at night and reception was already closed. The beautiful spacious room and peacefulness made up for it.

THe breakfast was delicious. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We spent nice quiet time. Love the baboons and the walkways. Near to the town. We'll definately be back.

Gaiko Lodge should consider selfcatering facilities as the breakfast time was too early for my spouse.

The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and large and look out onto the magnificent mountains. Parking is near to the rooms and the paths are paved and so the suitcases are easy to get there.

Cleanliness needs a bit of attention. Surfaces and the bath and shower are clean, and so are the glasses, crockery and cutlery, but the floors could do with a bit more work.

Location is fantastic, beautiful views. Breakfast is good and taste delicious. Beds are very comfortable and rooms very spacious. One of the best places to stay. hostess and staff very friendly.

I do think the rooms are a but dusty and the cleaners missed dusting the bedside tables and large desk again. The bedding covers are clean but the are also old and stained, as well as the blanket was dusty, that is making it lot less luxurious. Mostly we love staying here, only need a few checks in place to ensure super clean rooms and replace the old linen with new ones.

So much that we loved about the property - the quiet area it is in, the gorgeous large lodge that we stayed in with massive bed, the porch area where we watched different birds, ducks and baboons or the lovely cooked breakfast in the morning. There’s so much and we were sad to only stay 1 night. There’s walks to do on the property, fishing and biking.

Not sure we can find fault all. We loved everything
