The room we were in, not the one we booked, had a lovely view over the mountains. The space was cosy and the upstairs loft had a built-in bed with a curtain that my daughter loved. Very nice balcony upstairs too, perfect for watching the sunset and the neighbouring horses grazing below.

There was a lot of loud talking noise into the night when we were hoping for a quiet Sunday evening rest after a busy weekend and long drive. It seems the owners were not there... Also no one was available to give the keys to and let us out the gate when we checked out at 9:00 the next morning. One of the reasons I booked here was because I stayed at a previous place of the same owners which I loved, so I was a bit disappointed with the situation we experienced, although I'm sure it was the exception.

This a return visit to this beautiful "home away from home". The hosts and staff can't do enough for you to make your stay 100% enjoyable. They go over and beyond!! The facilities are superb, beds comfortable and what a surprise to receive fresh eggs for ones brekkie in the morning. Being dog friendly is a bonus and our Bella loved visiting her little friend Lilly once again. It's quiet being a little out of town, it's so pretty looking onto the mountains and yes, we will definitely be returning again in the future.

Arumvale was absolutely perfect for our stay while attending a wedding near Swellendam. Perfectly located with stunning mountain views. The birdlife, quietness and beautiful gardens gave such a relaxed feel. The rooms were well appointed and beautifully decorated. We had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. Our host, George was super efficient and friendly. We can highly recommend a stay at Arumvale Country House. We enjoyed breakfast at "Grace and Merci" in town and can also highly recommend and will definitely stop there again whenever in Swellendam.

We were delighted to find this little country treat. It was just far out of town enough to be quiet and have the country feel. I loved the luxury linen on the bed and how clean and well thought out the cottage was. The Weber was packed and ready to be lit, as was the fire place inside the cottage. The staff were very helpful and ready to please. This spot is a great find and we’ll definitely be back. I will also recommend it to my own Airbnb guests as a great stop over on their way to the Garden Route.

Everything! Way under promised and over delivered. We arrived to an oasis of calm and beauty in the cutest cottage ever, such simplicity and practical in every way. The braai fire and indoor fire were both set to light, creating such a welcoming atmosphere. Generous rusks with coffee and tea, beautiful Rain toiletries and every thoughtful touch in place. We didn’t want to leave. And I could go on. It was a little slice of country heaven about 3km from town. We rushed out to buy braai meat and had sundowners and enjoyed the beautiful countryside and living like a local. So so special

We loved everything. If you don’t have a car and have to go into town it could be problematic, that is all I can think of that may put someone off.

Lovely setting and very comfortable with all the bells and whistles. The braai area was even set up with charcoal and firelighters every night! With thr view you could sit on the verandah for days! Lovely to wake up with all the animal sounds!

Everything was perfect!

Perfect location, loved the country feel, the fresh air, waking up to the sounds of birds chirping, the neighboring farm animals, the scenery. The accommodation was the perfect size and a true home away from home. Very comfortable and cosy. Lilly, the resident staffi was an absolute charm. George and his staff were very friendly and accommodating.

One of the most beautiful views out there, especially with the mountains in the background. The location also made it perfect for a beautiful walk. The room was great and catered for everything, even the dreaded load shedding. Did enjoy the fireplace and the warm/coziness of the room a lot since it was a cold rainy day. Having a cup of coffee of coffee in the morning with that view made it just so much more special. We also appreciated George making a big effort in coming to greet us before we left, especially as we had to leave very early the next day.

If I had to choose something I did not like I would be nitpicking.

Cottage has dubble bed with electric blankets; full kitchen - even during loadshedding the gas stove can work for hot water etc. The lounge has a fireplace which we loved - kept the cottage warm through the night - nice shower - amendities in shower is good - We loved the place - there is even a nice spot for a braai outside on the stoep overlooking some mountains - Very very nice and comfortable. The host is absolutely friendly and very helpful . Even helped light our fireplace in the lounge and got is going for us! Would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you guys!

Once you go through town and heading towards Arumvale Country retreat cottage there is approx. 1km of gravel road. If you dont mind travelling the last kilo on gravel then you will find the cottage makes up for it. :)

Stayed in the cottage which was amazing. Incredible views of the mountains. Everything you could want to stay warm on a chilly winters night from indoor fire to gas heater . Plenty of wood provided for both indoor and outdoor braai Bed was extremely comfortable. George was helpful
