Beautiful setting high up above the town but close to all restaurants, shops, etc. we stayed in room 8 which had a lovely stoep overlooking the pool, large dining kitchen area and super-comfy bed. There’s a lovely big walk-in shower. Fans provided were adequate in the hot weather. The pool area is very comfortable with lots of sunbeds, cushions, pool towels proovided and the pool a nice size for a few short lengths and cooling off. Although the rooms are close together there was a feeling of privacy. There was a large braai with wood plus a gas hob and microwave with good kitchen utensils. Close enough to walk into town but a very steep climb back!

We had been told breakfast could be provided but it wasn’t available. There was also a lot of noise from children splashing and shouting from the pool in the property next door and although they were no doubt having fun it spoilt the idea of the ‘retreat’ a little!

I and my family loved everything from the comfy rooms to the fully equipped kitchen, the views of the mountain are stunning from the lounge and outside dinning area..it was absolute tranquillity...waking up to birds chirping and enjoying the splendid night sky ..WOW. The stars are so close and clear ..its really magical at night and we experienced this on our own private lawn, we rally enjoyed the pools and the sunbathing area was really a plus. We had a beautiful time and experience at Hilltop country Retreat!

the fans occasionally did not work and it was very hot but never the less we just cooled off in the pool.

Convenient stop on our way to the Garden Route. Close to Marloth Nature Reserve offering scenic walks and trails. Close to town for museum and shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Braai (bbq) facilities (all included) was excellent. Furnishings/ decor were top notch. Recommend stay longer than 1 night.

The one swimming pool was quiet whenever we used it but would maybe get busy if all the guests were using it at the same time? The second 'swimming pool' was a little splash pool delightful for cooling your feet off or for small children

Beautiful property. We stayed here one night for my birthday and the room was absolutely beautiful and nicely set up. My favourite thing is the wood burning fireplace in the room which made for an extremely cost atmosphere. The property itself is pretty and in a nice area a short 4min drive from the old historic part of Swellendam. Lana helped us book a nice dinner (the last table) in town upon our arrival and was very sweet. The room had nice complimentary touches (coffee, rusk, etc.). This room would be great for couples or family with 1 or 2 small kids as there are bunk beds in the room.

Nothing to dislike.

The room, had everything and it was clean, fresh towels provided the next morning and they cleaned when we dashed for breakfast, cleaning stuff was also provided, which made it easier to also clean up after ourselves.

lol, we loved everything I can not point out anything I was unhappy with. Everything was just right

Room was very nice with everything required for self catering. Clean, with decent shower, toilet & vanity. Nice kitchen with fridge and wash basin, etc. Outdoor Braam area should you have required it. Staff were helpful with suggestions of restaurants to eat at and places to visit.

Parking facilities were a bit tight for the number of cars parked on the premises. Gate onto the property did not close. Security a bit relaxed for someone from JHB. WiFi a bit slow. TV Remote was missing.

The location is good, and it’s very clean. It’s something I really appreciated. Parking was ample, check in easy, and the 3 bedroom house was well enough appointed. Fantastic views of the mountains

I could’ve done with some sharp knives in the kitchen, and some oven mits haha.

Very neat and tidy with all the required amenities. It is also very well situated. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lovely outside areas with lawns, swimming pools and braai areas.

The bathroom set up is slightly awkward. There are two steps in the shower area that don't really make sense and are just in the way. The shower head should also be moved more into the corner to prevent the entire bathroom from getting wet.

What's not to like? From the friendly staff to the beautiful rooms as well as the perfect location, waking up to the view of mountains and being surrounded by a beautiful garden

Maybe I'm being too modest, but there's absolutely nothing that we didn't dislike about our stay. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to have a room with a fireplace, but I don't think this constitutes as a dislike

Hilltop Country Retreat is a fantastic place with very friendly staff. We received an upgrade and it was absolutely fantastic. Spacious room with all you need, a BBQ-place with wood available and a great swimming pool. We were 100% surprised by this location and facilities. With any next visit to SA we will come back for sure.
