Deeside is becoming increasingly difficult to find good accommodation outside of town with catering, thankfully the Cambus recognises this niche as important and provides excellent foot at reasonable cost.

The continental breakfast was really very, very good. We enjoyed in particular the musli with the fruit salad...

Everything! The setting is fantastic-the gardens and trees and lovely building make a big impression as you come up the drive. The interior is olde worlde but totally in keeping with the age of the property that it feels like stepping back in time but with all the creature comforts. The staff were really helpful and kind,y upgraded us, which was very much appreciated. The hotel is situated a few miles away from Ballater but offers fantastic walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching (red squirrels too) and swimming (in the river when the flow isn’t too intense) - all from the doorstep, without the need to drive. When you do wish to use your car there are plenty of places to visit, including Balmoral and Ballater. There was an on-site bar and restaurant, really conveniently. We stayed for the evening meal and the food was great. Breakfast was included and had a lovely variety. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, anywhere and the shower was really luxurious. I highly recommend and would love to return.

A lovely old hotel furnished with antiques in a peaceful wooded setting. There was plenty of parking. We were in Room 5 on the first floor, no lift. We had a 4-poster bed with a canopy. The room was spacious and had a couch as well as dressing table with a chair. There were USB ports beside the bed. There were comfortable lounge and dining areas as well as outside seating. Dinner was well-cooked and reasonably priced. There was a very good range of food for the self-help continental breakfast.

The only downside was that the bed was rather uncomfortable. Otherwise, everything else was great.

The history of the place, the building itself and superb location in the forest. Rustic harm of the property and all wooden encrustations and carving are simply amazing. Food was very good at the local restaurant plus a moderate selection of good whiskies . Cozy fireplace was lit during the evening. Great staff!

If I a need to point out some things it would be - a bit more cleanness and better Internet. But provided the age of the building and difficulties of leaning such intricate stone and wood work plus remoteness of the places, that's not a surprise. What I mentioned - is just part of the charm for me, but can be different for other people. Great staff and ambience compensate for those small things.

Best stay so far in Scotland. It felt like staying with your best friend, in a manor, and in the TV series "Ghosts". Beautiful setting, very calm, super nice helpful host and personnel. My son used the sauna, I used the bar, and my husband loved the deserts. Very clean, best shower ever. So it is like in a castle, except that everything is super well done and very modern. You get the best of 2 worlds or rather 2 time periods at the same time! Beautiful garden. Many hikes around including a walkable bridge. Thank you for an amazing stay!

I loved everything.

Victorian era hotel, but unlike many old hotels, this one is well-maintained. None of the rotting-wood windowframes that so many old places have. Decor fits the period, comfortable armchairs abound. Breakfast was excellent, although staff sometimes struggled to replenish the supplies. Handy for the main road, but far enough back to be quiet, set in it's own private woodland grounds. Excellent walks from the door. Wifi worked.

TV in our room was a bit erratic, although once it had been persuaded to start a programme, it usually continued with no further problem.

What an absolute gem this hotel is. The country manor aesthetic without the snobbery, the coziness of a BnB with the facilities of a hotel, and the array of historical items and curiousity on every table, shelf and wall to be admired and read is amazing. And the huge roll top bath! We only stayed one night, but we will be back. I get the impression after a few nights you feel more like you're at home than in a hotel. Probably the most relaxing place we have every stayed, and our small dog just loved getting to stay and explore the gardens. Is the furniture shining new from IKEA? No. It is authentic, hand carved and it's worn edges tell it's story. Do the staff keep a keen eye on you? No, they are relaxed and friendly. Is there a lift? No, it's a 150 year old house. Use your common sense, if you want rooms cleaned to within an inch of there lives and lamps with the sales tags still on then go find a Travelodge. This is a charming, historical and relaxed dog friendly hotel, nestled in the woods which can easily transport you back to a simpler, slower and more relaxed time if you let it.

This won't be for everyone but there wasn't anything we didn't like.

lovely location.. good size clean rooms. lovely view from our room of gardens and hillside. evening meal was excellent.. period features in the room which make the room dated but that is the look the current owners are looking for. We liked it and yes the bed was soft but that is purely personal choice. . overall rooms was very clean with facilities to have a cup of tea or coffee. bathroom with bath/shower again very clean. 10 minute drive to the village of Ballater and 20 minute drive to Balmoral Castle

Everything😊, this was my first stay at this hotel with my dog. the hotel is so very relaxing, clean and exceptional in every way😊 The staff are very welcoming and friendly, they were very supportive of me being profoundly deaf😊 there is no deaf gadgetry in case of a fire, however I was extremely happy that if there was a fire at night someone would come into my room and wake me up, This is a big plus for me👌 There are Fabulous walks in the surrounding Forrest 😊 I have booked to come back for Christmas 😊 Also dog friendly, this is also a big plus for me😊 Dogs are not allowed in the dining room but are allowed everywhere else. So you can eat breakfast in the bar area with your dog...👌😁
