We booked a last minute, the last room available and as such concluded that the room wouldn't be spectacular.... how wrong we were. Beautiful room, with a big COMFORTABLE feature bed. All the amenities that you usually get, a cut table and chairs by the window which caught the evening sun, HUGE bathroom, with bath and shower. We visited the bar, which had craft lager and cider on tap, we found a quiet pair of comfy chairs to watch the world go by. There appeared to be a function on, but the place wasn't overly busy or noisy, it was relaxing, the staff were great and the chips delicious! Breakfast in the morning was brilliant, we did have an opps moment as my eggs came with added bacon ( not stated on the menu) and I don't eat meat, but the staff were great and remade my eggs for me, we would definitely stay again.

it was all good.....

Lovely big room with two superb armchairs and excellent, period furniture. The food was superb. Delicious breakfasts were cooked to order. We dined at the hotel each night and the dinners were excellent.

A small issue. I am in my 80s and the climb in and out of the high bath to have a shower was a daily challenge. We could have had a room with a walk in shower, but our own room was otherwise so good that we persevered.

Room was spacious and comfortable. Food was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent selection of whiskies in the bar.

We were in room 6 which was above the dining room. Unfortunately music was played in the dining room from 7.30 am until 10.30 pm. This could hardly be heard in the dining room but the beat from the music reverberated in our bedroom. In fairness the volume was turned down when we requested it but it was irritataing. There was an issue with the availability of dinner on Saturday evening. We were told by the receptionist on duty when we arrived that the restaurant was fully booked. That turned out to be incorrect. Again, in fairness, when, after eating out, we raised the issue the owner apologised.

The room was cozy and really made you think of a Scottish country house. The bathroom was large and well equipped. The staff were pleasant, particularly the barman, who gave us great whisky suggestions and a friendly chat, and the woman who ran breakfast on the weekend. She was really friendly and kept things running efficiently Delicious buffet and hot foods for breakfast. The grounds were stunning and made for a very relaxed atmosphere.

We had dinner there our first night. Although the food was good and the staff friendly, we felt really rushed, having our dinner in front of us before we finished half a drink. We were seated and out of there in under 40 minutes.

We booked the bothy for a more intimate family meal. We were able to decorate it and had a speaker to play music so was like a wee oarty room by the end of the night. 😁. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The receptionist is very welcoming and chatty. The bar and waiting staff were literally at your beck and call. Use of a call bell and were there within seconds. Highly recommend it. The meals were outstanding. Even the breakfast. When leaving, the cleaners offered to carry my bags downstairs. I've never stayed somewhere where everyone was like a big family. And the bed... unbelievably comfy.

Nothing. It's was a beautiful place.

This is a beautiful small hotel. Furnished with style and good taste throughout. Well appointed public rooms and comfortable public sitting areas. The food in the dining room was exceptional, the monkfish was outstanding. The Scottish breakfast was delicious. The staff were, without exception, delightful, helpful and courteous. The bedroom furnishings were of top quality and the bed most comfortable

I've never been a great lover of electrically heated showers in bathrooms, the flow of water is invariably limited. I understand that the plumbing may not be up to the demands of mains water pressure to a normal shower. Otherwise, pretty much faultless.

We were staying at the hotel for 2 nights for a rather sad reason-a family funeral . Several family members were also staying there and the wake was held in one of the reception rooms after the funeral. The staff were helpful and thoughtful throughout and looked after us very well. We paid extra for a superior room and it was huge and very comfortable- and quiet . A good breakfast was included and we had dinner on the first night , again with excellent service and good food .We had stayed here for a previous family event (a wedding) about 8 years ago and we thought that ,under the new management , the hotel has improved significantly .

Everything was fine !

Breakfast was excellent. We dined on one evening , which was also very good,

my only slight criticism was that my choice of milk for breakfast, skimmed, was not available. They only stock full fat milk. They did have a choice of oat milk etc. Also the television in the room was so small and antiquated that you could not see the ‘guide’ and it was not a big room.

This is the nicest hotel I have stayed in in Scotland- spotlessly clean, beautiful bedroom and the main common areas are beautifully and tastefully finished - a recent renovation is to a very high standard. The owners run the hotel very professionally. The front desk staff are very helpful and experienced, as are the staff that look after you at breakfast. Just a wonderful experience for me. It has a fascinating history tied to Queen Victoria. I highly recommend

Absolutely nothing

The Hotel was easily accessed from the main road in Banchory with plenty of parking. The staff were all friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was warm and very clean with fresh towels every day. The breakfast was excellent with a large variety of hot food as well as fresh fruit, cereals etc. The evening meals were also excellent with lots of choice and the decor in the restaurant was beautiful.
