Excellent location right on the lovely harbour. We were able to park right outside the hotel, but there is a free public car park and street parking nearby. The food in the restaurant in the evening was good, but there are two other places to eat in the harbour. Since our visit, two people have asked if we had takeaway fish & chips and highly rated them.

Avoid Room 10. The room is very noisy due to the location above the kitchen. We mentioned this to the staff before we brought our luggage in and were advised it was the kitchen extraction fans which get turned off after lunch at 3.30 pm for two hours and turned back on at 5.30-10.00 pm. The fans also start up in the morning around 6.00-6.30 am when they start preparing breakfast. The walls are thin and you can hear people in other rooms and doors banging. We saw in another review about there being lots of laminated signs stating hotel rules, which we noticed too. This gives off a hostel vibe, and signs could be displayed in a more attractive way. Staff not particularly friendly.

We booked a double room with sea view and we were checked into the quadruple room which was a bonus. The view from our room was exceptional. Our bathroom was a good size with a bath and shower overhead. The breakfasts were lovely and there were choices of cooked breakfast. My husband chose to have porridge with honey and he has since been converted into having honey instead of sugar on porridge which he thought was delicious. The dining room overlooked the harbour. We enjoyed the evening meal and the service was good. The harbour and seafront were great for walking along and seeing the Broadwalk sculptures were delightful.

First of all - I checked in there for the second time. During a power cut. I would have missed it if it wasn't for me remembering where the Ship Inn was approximately. Long story short - it was one of the most memorable experiences of my traveling career. Everyone - staff, guests, locals - was trying to make the best out of the situation. Breakfast was quick and plenty, even though I ordered the small Scottish breakfast. The restaurant offers a decent range of food in the no-nonsense department. If you are looking for [...] star cuisine you might have chosen the wrong place. You get fed there at very reasonable prices. The bar is well stocked with a variety of beers and spirits. The location is hard to beat with the Ship Inn located directly at the harbour. The footpath to Dunottar Castle starts some 100 meters right to the hotel facing the harbour. Be prepared for a steep ascend which will reward you with stunning views in all directions.

I'd like to recommend some things to enhance the experience, unfortunately I can't find anything. Haute cuisine? Don't need it. Rainforest shower? Don't need it. You get everything you need for a stay in this beautiful surroundings at a very reasonable price - at least in my case. A room with harbour view would have been the cherry on the cake - but I didn't ask for it and I had plenty of time to view the harbour outside the Ship Inn.

The location of The Ship Inn is absolutely spectacular. This little seaside town captured my heart. When we checked in, we were advised to make a dinner reservation before the kitchen closed. This we did, and the dinner was probably the best we had in Scotland. OMG - talk about Toffee Pudding!

A fire alarm went off at 6am and was quite disturbing. But I must say that the volunteer fire department was on site in minutes, and confirmed a false alarm. Even with this fiasco, I can honestly say that The Ship Inn is one of the most magical and welcoming locations in Scotland and its staff is extraordinary!

Fabulous location with a seaside view. Loved this tidy and historical hotel. Clean and staff friendly and welcoming. Restaurant with breakfast served good food. Local fish and other seafood on menu for dinner. Enjoyed watching the locals in the sea scouts and sailing club row their boats in the harbour. Locals were catching lots of fish from the break wall. Lovely boardwalk from the Inn around the bay overlooking the beach. You can walk from the Inn to Dunottar Castle or a short drive away. Definitely recommend staying here if visiting Scotland.

Pillows were flat. Room next to ours had an office with a worker using computers - door was open so we could hear them working.

The location is absolutely fantastic, right in front of the small harbor of a picturesque and charming village. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was generous and delicious, with both sweet and savory options available, served à la carte rather than as a buffet. Although the building is not brand new, it is full of character and poetic charm, which adds to the overall experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and everything was well maintained. Overall, an excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and authentic getaway.

Beautiful location. Very helpful staff. Food was really good and the room was clean, the bed comfortable. Close to Castle, hiked there in the morning. Be sure to check out times for restaurants to be open, they only serve at specific times and other shops seemed to have odd hours as well.

Room was very basic, no conditioner or lotion, one brand of tea, no decaf. The shower was a struggle, had to switch on the water heater outside the shower, then it was scalding and then it ran out of hot and turned freezing.No water in the room for guests.

Flawless location with incredible views of the harbour. The pub downstairs and room had lots of character. The decor was a bit dated but the room was clean, couldn't really fault it. The staff were amazing and so friendly. There was a great atmosphere.

The room whilst clean and fresh had patched work paint on the wall. Parts where it clearly had been flaking away but instead of repainting the whole wall they have just applied white paint to the areas where it flaked. The wall itself isn't white. This didn't really bother me too much, it just stood out.

I changed plans to specifically stay at the Ship Inn and was NOT disappointed. They were able to "upgrade" my room to an upper floor to allow a wonderful view of the harbor. Hauling my stuff up 3 flight was a wee chore, but I asked for it! The bed was comfy and the water pressure good. I did have some trouble with getting the heat working properly, but the staff was quick to help. The pub and restaurant were full of lovely people and I enjoyed a YUMMY seafood dinner. Breakfast came with the room and was great. The staff was above and BEYOND friendly. They recommended the walk to Dunnator (1.5 miles) which was SPECTACULARLY beautiful and so worth it. What a great experience.

The decor might be considered dated, but I found it warm and charming! Besides the minor heating challenge, everything was GRAND!

The room came with a fan, which was very needed with the warm temperatures. I loved the window view of the mountain outside of the inn. I loved that the bay was right across from the inn and that the area was walkable. Sea and beach views were nearby. I liked staying in a historic-looking inn with a pub below. It seemed to be a typical local pub hang out spot and I liked that!

The two twin bed room was extremely small and a tight fit. We hardly had any space to open up our luggage.
