We booked a last minute, the last room available and as such concluded that the room wouldn't be spectacular.... how wrong we were. Beautiful room, with a big COMFORTABLE feature bed. All the amenities that you usually get, a cut table and chairs by the window which caught the evening sun, HUGE bathroom, with bath and shower. We visited the bar, which had craft lager and cider on tap, we found a quiet pair of comfy chairs to watch the world go by. There appeared to be a function on, but the place wasn't overly busy or noisy, it was relaxing, the staff were great and the chips delicious! Breakfast in the morning was brilliant, we did have an opps moment as my eggs came with added bacon ( not stated on the menu) and I don't eat meat, but the staff were great and remade my eggs for me, we would definitely stay again.

Good location, good meals, polite & efficient staff. Good greeting & seamless check-in by Reception who resolved a lighting issue in room rapidly. Well equipped host tray with everything you could need.

Room somewhat dated & grubby, could do with a substantial refresh. Unforgiving & brutal door closing mechanism on heavy room door that badly needs adjusting to prevent injury (noted by Reception). Shower over bath & pathetic Mira shower arrangement required acrobatic skills for an mediocre shower to avoid crashing out onto tiled floor. Not a good offering for 21st Century. The perpetual & unnecessary Piped music spoiled the otherwise comfortable & cosy atmosphere of the Dining & Lounge area.

The hotel is set in beautiful gardens with good shelter from the trees. We liked the friendly and helpful welcome. We liked the Salmon Nori dish for dinner. The room was comfortable. Bed comfortable and nice linen and soft furnishings. Nice hot shower.

The room was fine though a little cramped as we had extra luggage due to attending a wedding. As we couldn't venture out yesterday due to the bad weather we watched TV. The TV was an exceptionally small screen. For breakfast there was a good choice of cooked items with alternative dietary options. Only one option for gluten free cereal and no dairy free yogurt.The dining area for breakfast was nice but each morning the staff opened the door and it was a chilly draught for diners. Minor point the information in the room folder could possibly be updated about meal times and Sunday evening options.

Lovely friendly hotel. Would definitely stay there again however it felt a bit hap hazard when we arrived as we felt it wasn’t clear which staff did what but to be fair any thing we asked for was sorted. Rooms were a good size and the bed was comfy. Food in the restaurant was very good

On the whole it is a very clean hotel but we felt they should perhaps do a little spot cleaning on the carpet in the bedroom near the tea/ coffee as previous people had dripped marks onto the carpet . It won’t take long if that continues for the carpet to look dirty.

Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Compliments to the chef, everything was freshly cooked to a very high standard and presented beautifully. The gym next door was fantastic and being able to use it as part of the hotel was an added bonus. The staff were exceptional, especially Rachel who was so friendly and helpful. Excellent location and beautiful setting.

The room was clean and a decent size but a little old fashioned compared to the rest of the hotel. We liked it but this is just an observation and not a complaint as everything else was fantastic.

The room was comfortable and had all the facilities expected (even an iron, ironing board and fan). The reception, lounges and bar area are lovely and spacious, and all staff are very pleasant, couteous and attentive. The extensive hotel grounds well kept, with adequate parking. The evening meal menu is extensive and well prepared and presented. Breakfast was wonderful.

The building and grounds are well maintained, however the upper floors/accommodation internally could do with a freshen up, and services upgraded, and perhaps floors overlaid to improve sound transference.

Lovely big room with two superb armchairs and excellent, period furniture. The food was superb. Delicious breakfasts were cooked to order. We dined at the hotel each night and the dinners were excellent.

A small issue. I am in my 80s and the climb in and out of the high bath to have a shower was a daily challenge. We could have had a room with a walk in shower, but our own room was otherwise so good that we persevered.

Location was perfect. Loved the games out front. We were like 2 kids again. Breakfast was lovely. I don't usually go for the full breakfast in other hotels but I'm glad I did on this occasion. My partner always gets eggs benedict where ever we go and she was not disappointed.

No control on temperature in the room. Had the window open all night which ended up letting wasps in. We also had the fan going all night but it was tiny. Still really enjoyed our stay. We understand it's an older building so they usually run pretty warm.

Room 6 was excellent, well worth the money. Staff at reception and during breakfast were superb. Breakfast was excellent. Lift was a bit problematic but thank you to all the staff, (and one of the staff’s little girl), who dashed upstairs to engage the grill gate to enable the lift to operate. Perhaps the notice to close the lift gate should be made bigger! Beautiful place would highly recommend.

The only thing I didn’t like was the fact it rained but I doubt the hotel could do much about that!

Room was spacious and comfortable. Food was very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent selection of whiskies in the bar.

We were in room 6 which was above the dining room. Unfortunately music was played in the dining room from 7.30 am until 10.30 pm. This could hardly be heard in the dining room but the beat from the music reverberated in our bedroom. In fairness the volume was turned down when we requested it but it was irritataing. There was an issue with the availability of dinner on Saturday evening. We were told by the receptionist on duty when we arrived that the restaurant was fully booked. That turned out to be incorrect. Again, in fairness, when, after eating out, we raised the issue the owner apologised.
