The staff were exceptional and so kind and pleasant, the bedroom was immaculate and the comfiest bed with gorgeous en-suite.
Every meal we had at the hotel in various restaurants was cold, this wasn’t just an issue we had but was also vocalised by other guests. The spa was not tidy, towels and robes and plastic bottles were abandoned in the spa, there was no one on duty making sure it was clean and tidy. The bedroom became really cold at night and the heating did not work, none of the radiators in the whole hotel were turned on. The hotel does not serve food at any restaurant past 8.30pm, not even bar snacks on an evening so if you miss last reservations you will be starving until morning. The tv remote in our room did not work and they are not smart TVs so no Netflix or YouTube are available. No WiFi or signal throughout the whole property.

The location. The room. The spa facilities.
Breakfast experience was a total let down. Staff unattentive. My wife was given the wrong first course. I had to chase up my first course. We asked for a mix of toast butcwere given all granary toast. Staff were not easy to find.

From the moment we drove through the gates of Maften Hall we knew we were in for a treat. I booked our stay for one night for my partner and I's anniversary and the staff made it special immediately. They have valet parking, complimentary drinks on arrival and champagne and chocolates in our room waiting for us. The spa is small but has everything you need including a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and aromatherapy room. We had dinner at The Keepers which was affordable but delicious. Both of us would absolutely go back and can't wait for next time!
We didn't really need a balcony room as the weather was chilly but there was a lovely view of the church. Draws hadn't been fully emptied from the previous guest but as soon as we told reception they came and removed the items and apologised profusely!

Stunning, grand property. The communal spaces are absolutely gorgeous, and the bar and restaurants are excellent. The tasting menu in the Emerald Room is expensive, but worth every penny. Breakfast is outstanding. The bed was large and extremely comfortable, and the bathroom was luxurious. We had a significant service issue in the Cloisters restaurant for dinner, but the staff/hotel recovered well in the end.
Our room was in the wing near the spa and was overly warm -- air conditioning would really help in that wing, especially in spring/summer when opening the window brings mosquitos into the room. There was also work going on at the property, and our room was exposed to it. Ideally, these rooms would have been left empty until the work was done. There was no shower gel in the room, just shampoo and conditioner.

We had a fantastic mini moon here for the weekend following our wedding. It is absolutely beautiful. Inside it's a wonderful mix of old and modern. We were met by 2 lovely staff members, John (who got us welcome drinks and a mab who sadly we didn't catch his name but he had fair hair, glasses and showed us to our room. Both were so welcoming and pleasant throughout our stay. We both enjoyed our daily chats with John. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The bathroom was amazing with a massive bath. We only ate at the new Keepers restaurant which was whilst still beautiful a more relaxed setting. The food was incredibly good quality for the price and delicious. There's a lovely town around 5 miles away with lots of cafes and independent shops.
The only slight negative was the room was boiling for September (even with the fan on). We couldn't see a way to turn the underfloor heating down. This in no way affected our stay and I have no doubt had we raised it to staff, it would have been rectified. It also made me desperately want to return and stay during winter months.

Our stay couldn’t have been better. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost care and attention. The hotel generously upgraded us to the most beautiful room we’ve ever stayed in — a truly unforgettable gesture. We dined at the Keepers Restaurant on our first night and both opted for the steak, which was cooked to perfection. Breakfast the next morning was superb, with a fantastic selection and brilliant service from the staff once again. Our evening meal was exceptional — top-quality food at a very reasonable price. The spa was stunning and the perfect place to unwind. We’ll definitely be returning. It’s a fantastic hotel, made even better by the incredible staff who go above and beyond to make your stay special.

Matfen hall is so scenic, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and well kept. The decor is luxurious and a really pleasant atmosphere. Rooms was lovely and clean, beds was comfortable. Staff was nice and friendly. The Sunday dinner was one of the nicest I have had. Overall the hotel is a must to visit and stay. I would definitely return. Memories made and we was more than looked after.
There could be some improvements made but minor ones - personal opinion The breakfast service was not as good as the evening but still not a complaint to be made The aroma room in the spa area was not working however no sign of apology or as to why The evening food in the normal restaurant i would rate as just nice there was nothing I felt spectacular blowing my mind. Maybe a live music in the hall in the evening could be nice to set some atmosphere

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Maftern Hall Hotel Golf and Spa and I can confidently say it was one of the best experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel incredibly welcome, and the level of service throughout my stay was simply exceptional. Every member of the team went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed, and their warmth and professionalism truly stood out. The facilities at the hotel were top-notch. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and impeccably clean, with all the amenities I could have asked for. The bed was incredibly comfortable, making it easy to unwind after a long day of exploring the area. The hotel also offered a fantastic array of services, from a stunning pool area, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. One of the highlights of my stay was the bedroom, such as a restaurant, spa, staff. It was truly a five-star experience, and the attention to detail in every aspect of the hotel made me feel like a valued guest at all times. I cannot recommend this hotel enough for anyone looking for a luxury stay with outstanding customer service and first-class facilities. I will definitely be returning on my next visit!

Location is exceptional if you are looking to get away from anything - really peaceful, in the middle of nowhere type of vibe. Staff are super friendly and willing to go extra mile. Facilities in the retreat are really top-notch. Rooms are done to an incredibly high standard and housekeeping is world-class (I forget the name of the lovely member of staff there in the housekeeping department but she was a delight). Food was really really good. Ate so well throughout the stay. Breakfast was delicious.
Facilities in the retreat could be a little bit bigger as it got cramped in there a few times. Some of the newer staff were a little bit awkward. Wish there were a few more casual dining options outside of The Keepers (but The Keepers is lovely). These are all real nit-picks though, fantastic place to stay and great value for money.
