Good budget accommodation with great price to comfort ratio. The rooms were a bit dated but quiet and clean. No private bathrooms. There were two nice and clean communal bathrooms available. The only other guests there were a very friendly Scottish couple. We were checked in by the same lady who runs the pub downstairs. She was super nice and accommodating, welcomed us like old friends. The local pub downstairs did not serve food but we were invited to bring in our own take-out. The lady even provided us with plates and silverware. We tried their local cider and beer. Delicious! Overall, it was a great experience. It felt like we were visiting our (Scottish❤️) family. We chose the Blackball for our last night in Scotland for the great price, free parking and proximity to the airport. it worked out great.

The location, which is relatively close to Edinburgh airport, worked out well for us. We were able to return our rental car to the airport in plenty of time to catch our flight. Most importantly, the very reasonable price of $50 a night per room (2 rooms for a total of $100) was very refreshing after paying around $500 a night for the previous 9 nights in locations in Edinburgh and Skye. The rooms were very basic but clean and quiet. The shared bathrooms were not an issue for us - they were clean, always available, and there was plenty of hot water. One room had a small refrigerator; the other one didn't.

We wanted an authentic experience of a small town in Scotland- and this was 100% that. The patrons of the Black Bull were welcoming and Karaoke night was legendary. There isn't a lot going on in Polmont, but everything that IS going on is happening at the Black Bull.

there was no WiFi, which was promised, and we almost didn't go because nobody from the Inn contacted us to confirm our reservation and we didn't want to board a train to Polmont without being certain that we had a place to stay, so we lost half a day in Edinburgh trying to get in touch with someone at the Inn because noone would answer the phone or multiple emails. It was frustrating and we almost abandoned the plan to go to Polmont. Overall, I'm glad we took a chance on them because it was a blast getting to know the colorful folks at the Black Bull, but they do really need to work on their communication, and manage the expectations of guests by not promising WiFi when there is none.

Efficient check in and the comfortable bed. Although they didn't serve food, received suggestion for the Woodcote Inn where we had an excellent dinner. Cycling the Union and Forth & Clyde Canal, we were able to put the bikes in the ground floor room for security.

I had hoped that fellow guests would be more considerate in using the shared bathroom, rather than leaving the floor soaked and littered with scraps of toilet paper, but that is not the fault of the owner.

Great value. Good parking nearby. Good size room. Very nice en suite shower room with a great shower. 15 minute walk to the station with regular trains to Edinburgh. Just a few minutes drive to the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel. Private entrance to the accommodation separate from the pub.

Wifi didn't work at all. Limited choice of restaurants nearby. Some maintenance is needed especially to the gutters, curtain rails and bathroom fittings.

The location was ideal for me for onward travel. The room was spacious with a large bathroom with an excellent shower. Comfortable bed with nice white linen.With the old inn being next door it was nice to have a refreshment . Staff all friendly.

I was woke early morning with a constant humming sound which I presumed was the showers being utilised by the other guests in the shared bathrooms on the upper floor. Due to other guests leaving early in the morning the noise was bad as they passed my room and exiting the property . The exterior door needs to be made to close quieter and guests need reminding that there are other guests who may not need to be up at the crack of dawn.Although no food is served at the inn there are choices of sit in and takeaways within easy walking distance.

Our room was lovely- spacious and comfortable. The triple room could comfortably sleep 6 as there was a king bed (actually just two twins put together) and two sleeper sofas, making this great for a family. We arrived far past typical check-in since we booked last minute, but a woman helped us right away and brought extra bedding for the sleeper sofa. The sofas were also deep enough to for one person to sleep on without pulling the mattresses out since the back cushions are removable. The room was very clean, and it had been tastefully renovated. There were charming historic details like built-in bookshelves and dormer windows which let in lots of light. There was also a kettle with plenty of options for hot drinks as well as a mini-fridge- the only accommodation on our trip to have one!

The bathrooms could have been cleaner. They were not exactly dirty, but in need of a deep clean as bathrooms often are at inns and hotels. We weren't bothered by this at all, but it is worth noting that you may hear some noise from the pub, which seems rather popular with locals. The noise was low, but still audible.

Great wee room and the added attraction of being en suite. Spacious and very comfortable and quiet. I heard no noise from the adjoining pub so the soundproofing was excellent

I couldn't get the TV to switch from radio to TV but in their defence, I was so tired after my journey, I couldn't be bothered to go and ask for help despite the staff saying on my arrival on several occasions that should I need anything at all, just to come and ask. Maybe printed instructions in the room would be a good addition to the accommodation.

The room was very comfortable and easy access to the street.The bathroom was a good size and the shower was great. There were places to eat just around the corner(fish/chip take away, Chinese take away) plus an Aldi and a restaurant across the road.

Nothing really. We stayed on a Sat night so the bar was very busy and they had karaoke late into the night but it did not keep us awake.

We were thrilled with our room, and the chance to stay in a historic (but updated) building. It was pretty empty being during the week right after New Year.We loved the opportunity to stay in a historic building. The room was huge and the internet lightning fast. Normally we would have hit the pub, but our family had been hit by a bad cold so we stayed in, and were really comfy.

Heads up, the bathroom is not in the room, but it was all good. We loved staying here. This isn't a negative, but it's important to realize that this is a set of rooms over a lovely little pub, so it's not going to have the same amenities as a traditional hotel. Which is totally cool, just something to remember.
