We had an excellent breakfast. Both restaurants were very good and the service was excellent. The room was a good size and well appointed in a classic decor style and the bed was particularly comfortable allowing us a quality night's sleep. The location is perfect for access to the NE coastal resorts and English Heritage/National Trust sites nearby.

On the the three nights that we stayed, the summer temperatures were high. There is no air conditioning in the rooms but we did have access to a portable fan and (if requested) ice could be delivered to help cool the room.

The hotel offers plenty of room for a relaxing time in one of the 2 Large sitting rooms. There was a substantial selection for breakfast along with a hot option as well. The 2 dining areas, the bar and main restaurant offered plenty scope for bar or fine dining. The double room was large with en-suite facilities and was completed with 3 arm chairs. The bathroom facilities were clean. Perhaps the main thing was obvious and we liked, was how all staff were very friendly and went out of there was to make your stay a pleasurable one. This was the second time we had stayed there and we will do so again. The overall atmosphere makes it the perfect place to have a relaxing short or longer stay.

Perhaps a fridge of cool box/fridge in the bedroom and perhaps a small safe would be an advantage.

Very comfortable bed and lovely room. No view from the window would be the only fault. Breakfast was exceptional with so much choice. The evening meal was superb. The best lamb we have ever had. It was very quiet when we were there and the bar was empty by 10.00pm. However, the early night was appreciated and it meant we would be up early for the breakfast. We will be returning.

No view from the bedroom window. It was high up and therefore you couldn't see out of it. But it didn't spoil the holiday as we spent very little time in the room. If you were there for a week or more I could see it being an issue but not for 2 or 3 days.

Room was lovely, warm and cosy. Bed very comfy. Cleaned daily. Tea coffee facilities good topped up daily, a la cart restaurant food was well presented and tasty, breakfast choice very good and delicious. Staff extremely helpfull and attentive, and it really made us feel special on our anniversary.

We chose to eat in the bar on our first night and whilst the food was OK, choice was a bit limited. Both fish choices where part of the grill menu and came with chips mushroom and tomatoe, chips where very nice, but I would have preferred a different fish option, I did think the bar menu some what expensive for what it was. Would book the restaurant every night in the future.

Room of a good size with a Velux roof window which flooded the place with light. I liked the raised seating area which separated the bedroom from the lounging area. Food good in the bar, reasonable prices, although a bottle of wine was expensive. Fabulous breakfast.

As soon as I walked into the room there was, what looked like a large black slug. Turned out it was just a black mark, only trouble was every time I walked in I saw this 'slug'. Surprised that none of the staff saw it and painted over it. Paintwork and tile grout need attention, an hour should do it.

Breakfast was well presented, well cooked and the staff were very efficient even with a full hotel. We ate in the bar one night with a good 'pub food' type menu - very generous portions. The Chaloner restaurant was again well staffed and a quality menu, beautifully cooked. The starters and mains were excellent and unusually for us, not great fans of dessert, the menu gave three or four attractive options.

Nothing. We knew from experience that the Woodlands Wing is quite a walk from the main hotel area so were not thrown by that

Everything about this property is outstanding. So quiet in beautiful gardens.our room was large and comfortable and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, probably the best one I’ve had. Staff all very friendly people, even Lord Gisborough asked us if everthing was fine and we were being looked after. The most amazing place ever.waiting for the day when I can return, and maybe stay longer. Thanks.

My stay here was faultless. But if I had to be picky maybe a small fridge in room would be a nice addition.

Everything was exceptional, I would rate it as a 5 star hotel, the bedroom was very comfortable and clean. Reception was very helpful if you rang down for anything.

Most of the rooms are in the large extension of the building, although this does not detract from the quality and style this has. Our room was quite a way from the lift, so I am not sure if this is pointed out to guests, as if someone had difficulty walking, it would be a long walk to their room.

The history and grounds house was lovely place

I felt uncomfortable has i think dress code for dinner abit much especially for a couple that don't do dressing up so felr we couldn't eat in restaurant I think it shouldn't matter what you wear money is money end of day just because someone dresses differently and likes to feel comfortable when away that's a hoilday experience hoilday experience should be relaxed and felt welcomed and comfortable no matter how expensive a hotel is has people like diffrent

Beautiful inside & out

I was there with my daughter for the medical awards. All the staff were friendly but I did feel that one kept ignoring us! The lady in the evening in the bar/grill area went to every table expect ours. I had to go the bar for menus & drinks, which isn’t a problem but when you’re waiting and see other guests given menus, even ones without tables booked, I thought it a bit off. The manager behind the bar immediately sent someone over to order our food & drinks. I just felt that she thought we weren’t good enough to be in there, it was very rude of her not to acknowledge us and made us feel like we shouldn’t of been in there.
