Beautiful property at the birthplace of JRR Tolkien with gorgeous artwork around the property reflecting scenes from the books (movies). The staff were helpful, friendly, and professional. The gardens are beautiful and the safe location on quiet streets is super nice, while within easy walking distance to trendy and delicious restaurants. Wifi was flawless and there is good working space in the rooms.

Pool needed a cleaning, with lots of leaves and debris in there so I didn't take a dip. Breakfasts were on the light side, though delicious and the staff serving are excellent. There could be a meat alternative offered (cooked veg?) for those of us who don't eat meat and are looking for a more substantive start to the day!

Large and comfortable rooms. Aircon helped for the warm Bloem nights. Staff was friendly and very helpful all the time. Breakfast was very nice with enough options for everyone. Loved the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit themed character rooms. Lovely garden with a nice swimming pool. They also had order in options from nearby restaurants that deliver to them. Would definitely stay there again

Room and pool cleanliness could have been a little better.

Old world style of antique furnishing gilded painting and metal sculptures in various public area of hotel. Some for sale.had an old piano in my bedroom.secure parking. Hotel has dining room for breakfast and also a restuarant one block away opposit hotel.no.need to.move car. Very quiet location. Breakfast omelette so light and fluffy. One of the best had had in years.

The pillows are lumpy. Not feather pillows and the creaking floor boards.

The ambiance of the hotel is amazing. You feel instantly relaxed as you walk through the doors. The website said sleeper couch, so I was amazed to see that there was an additional room for my daughter. The breakfast and cappuccino were also splendid.

Unfortunately no dstv, although I do feel it brings down the vibe, but with my daughter it's sometime important for additional things to keep her occupied. Shower drained slowly.

An absolute gem that I found scanning through available properties in Bloemfontein. From the first step inside with a great welcome to the beautiful antique deco and laid out garden to the suite with a super comfy bed. Can’t say enough good things about it. Can’t finish without recommending the New York restaurant just down the road. Super atmosphere and great food

Service levels are excellent across the board. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is dealt with in a highly friendly and efficient manner.

There was a minor issue with the provision of secure off street parking, but the calm and professional manner in which this was dealt with by night manager negated the problem and it was soon forgotten.

We had booked without knowing that this is the actual birthplace of Tolkien! Once you are inside it has a very nice atmosphere of an English country house.

We could not park the car at the hotel premises, but hade to leave it at a place further dow the road, which was a biut of a hassle.

Breakfast was excellent. The hot breakfast choices were fine ie either an omelette or a traditional south african breakfast.

My wife would have preferred plain yoghurt and fresh fruit for breakfast. Also, the DSTV channels are extremely limited

Fantastic accommodation in Bloemfontein. Friendliest staff who accommodated my every wish, be it for an ironing board, printing a document for me, offering a lunch pack seeing that I would be leaving too early to have breakfast etc. Huge rooms, spotlessly clean. Very well located - I recommend it without any hesitation!

The Hobbit hotel always our first choice for accommodation in Bloemfontein. The check-in is easy, the staff are friendly, the gardens are spectacular and the breakfast is delicious (and real coffee is served). We appreciated the safe parking. There is also the convenient option of ordering food and drinks from their sister restaurant around the corner. Very central location. Especially as I am a Lord of the Rings fan, staying in JRR Tolkien's birthplace is special. The Lord of the Rings artwork is also wonderful and is enjoyed on every stay.

Although the rooms and amenities are excellent, there is definitely something lacking. For the price we would have expected a jug of fresh milk in the fridge. 2 milk pods are not sufficient. A few cookies or rusks would also be expected for the price. Although we understand why shower gel is used a bar of soap or 2 would be nice. We hate using shower gel and went to the pharmacy on the corner to buy a bar of soap. The arch of glass above the room door is irritating for light sleepers.
