The room was beautiful, clean and had all the necessities. It was also quite spacious for our family of four.

We didn't particularly like that we had to walk up 3-4 flights of stairs to get to our assigned room; it was quite difficult with the kids and all our luggage. It would have been more convenient to have a lift available or that the family rooms are located on the ground or first floors. However, apart from that we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely book at the Russel Hotel in future.

I had a great experience! The bed and pillows were super comfortable, and the hot shower was just what I needed after a long day. The central location was perfect for my travel plans, and I appreciated being close to the main road. Although I didn't get to enjoy breakfast due to my early departure, the staff went above and beyond - Nwabisa/Spokazi even packed me a thoughtful snack of muesli and yoghurt! The hotel itself is clean and well-maintained, making it a great choice for travelers. I'd definitely recommend it..

Staff were friendly and helpful. For breakfast cereal and juice was set out on the counter for self-help and the cook came with menus to take our orders for eggs and bacon etc, not flashy but quite adequate. We had secure parking in a fenced and gated area. The rooms were huge with all the usual toiletries and coffee/tea, cups and kettle, and there was a microwave though we ate out. It was only a short walk to the Waterfront where there are many restaurants and we felt quite safe walking back in the dark.

Not the best area of town but very close to Woolworths. Baths not available due to local drought but we could shower. Load shedding was a pain but lanterns were provided. Perhaps load shedding and the water shortage will be temporary.

The shower gel in room 302 was completely off. Smelled like hair straightening products. Once downstairs for breakfast, the kitchen ladies really didn't give us a good face. Unfriendly. Not good service. Once I had my muesli, I got a very bad look from the ladies and which after a while they said that we have been sitting there the whole time all while speaking in Xhosa and thinking that we don't understand. That was rather disappointing.

We loved the stay. What made super special was the staff. The hotel is unfortunately an older building without a view or place to relax outside of your room, such as a lounge. But the staff made up for this in all aspects. They are super sweet and makes you feel at home. No place is perfect, but we will definitely use Russel Hotel again due to their staff and rooms. Nice big, clean and comfy.

The hotel has its own private parking. Very clean, with all you need in your room: fridge, microwave, kettle, tea, coffee. Very good WiFi. Quite road, 10 min walk to waterfront. The staff members very kind and helpful. They helped me to book cruise and they took care of all my requests. I felt really fantastic and treated like the VIP. Breakfast a la carta very good, plus yogurts , cereals, juices. Good AC, comfortable beds. Highly recommend.

The room was simple yet incredibly comfortable and cozy, making it a perfect retreat after a long day. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the positive experience. Our staying was enjoyable and I would recommend this hotel for its comfort and good location.

The breakfast was good but could benefit from a few improvements. The coffe was a little bit cold on the table but the rest was very good and tasty.

It was central and quiet area.

The fact that they don't have a lift and we had to go up on the 3rd floor, even though the staff helped us with moving the bags.

The location was great. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was really nice and having a hot meal as part of our stay every morning was superb.

Really looking for a nitpick. The stairs to our room, were a bit of a pain being on top, but we had good light and a view of the mountain. The affordability and the fact we wanted to be out and about with somewhere to stay, it was perfect.

We stayed at many places throughout our trip around South Africa. The Russel hotel was by far the best value for money, most comfortable and had the best breakfast. We loved our room, it was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The view was of the back streets but that really didn’t bother us, as we spent little time there during the day and had the curtains closed at night anyway. The friendly lady at reception was very helpful and accommodating. She made a plan to keep some of our extra luggage, that we didn’t need during our stay, stored downstairs for us so we wouldn’t have to lug it up the 3 flights of stairs. The bottles of water in the fridge were a nice touch and greatly appreciated. The air con worked great, a saving grace during the heatwave, and there was enough hot water for the whole family to have a (quick: due to water restrictions) shower. A loadshedding light in the room made loadshedding bareable. The breakfast as more than adequate, with generous portions and perfect for our diverse family tastes. The fact that you have a choice from a menu was pleasant and the food was delivered quickly.

Walking up 3 flights of stairs with an entire families luggage in a heatwave was no joke. But, to have a quiet room, with no smoke smell or noise made the effort totally bearable and I will do it again with a smile when we stay there next time. No other grumbles.
