We had a great stay at Shepherds, the staff were very welcoming and friendly and quick to answer any questions you may have. The room had a massive comfortable bed but it did take up most of the room space, great outdoor shower for a day shower only at this time of year and a big bath to enjoy before bed. The food was very enjoyable with enough choice to satisfy most people & presentation was beautiful, favourite of mine was the eggs Benedict at breakfast.

Food service at lunch can be a bit slow. R75 for a 750ml bottle of water with lunch is way overpriced, not many places you find water more expensive than alcohol. On several occasion’s when ordering spirits we were charged double shots without being asked if we wanted double, just seems they were trying to make as much money from drinks as they could.

Dineo and Kokesto in the dining hall area, you both made the experience enjoyable. Piet, the game ranger, you gave us an incredible experience with your knowledge of wildlife and nature — you’re truly an amazing person and great ranger. Perfect day the staff & guides amazing. I gained at least 10lbs. Very clean resort and everyone is very friendly.

The most warm welcoming staff. Excellence all round. Was a really wonderful stay. And very high levels of qualities rooms and food. We attended as a large group for special celebration and the resort rose to the occasion. The exc chef Siya very talented. Rooms comfortable and tasteful. The outdoor shower was not an issue. warm enough to use in winter even at night.

Our game drives were not very good the animals were all hiding. However the ranger Martin was knowledgeable and excellent. My only neg comment in a fully 5* facility was that game drive drinks were not of best quality and also the ranger was given very limited quantities to drive out with. this contrasted vastly with the abundance of great quality food served all day long.

Our stay at Shepherds Tree Game Lodge in the Pilanesburg game reserve was truly unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were treated with exceptional hospitality and warm smiles. The game drives were expertly guided and absolutely excellent – we spotted an array of wildlife in their natural habitats, and the guides shared fascinating insights about the animals and the reserve. The lodge itself was comfortable and welcoming, with stunning surroundings that added to the overall experience. We felt immersed in nature and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay. If you're looking for an authentic safari experience with top-notch service, look no further!

We had a fantastic stay here. Our guide Gold was named for a reason....! He showed us so many animals, was great at reading footprints etc. Overall we saw so much more than we expected (maybe also due to Gold's skills - this guy is simply amazing he sees everything that lives and has a great knowledge that he is happy to share!!!!!). The food was okay but not to get excited, but hey, you are here for safari, right? The waiters are superb, particularly highlighting Piet. The rooms are amazing. They are a bit away from the main building but they take you there by golf cart. Overall an amazing trip, also with kids. Ours were 7 and 9 and they had the time of their life.

The place is magical, beautiful view, exceptional rooms and cleanliness, the stuff was super friendly: from reception to every single cleaning or maintainance member, the game guide was absolutely great, always at the good spot at the right time. Everything was perfect or close to perfect.

More attention to details in the restaurant, in waiting the tables or better management when it gets crowded. Rather than a complain it is more of recommendation on how to get a 10/10 as the place is amazing and absolutely worth visiting, if I ever will be in the zone, I am coming back to shepherds Tree Lodge!

Our stay at Shepherd’s Tree Game Lodge was absolutely perfect. The lodge is incredibly luxurious, with stunning facilities and an overall high-end feel. The staff went above and beyond to cater to my partner’s celiac disease, preparing completely bespoke gluten-free meals for her, which made the experience even more special. Every detail was taken care of, and the level of service was exceptional.

The only small downside was a slight disagreement at checkout. After we had already settled the bill and even given an additional 2,000 ZAR in tips, staff approached me while I was relaxing by the pool to request payment for a 45 ZAR mini-fridge charge. It felt unnecessary and a bit out of place considering the generosity of our tipping.

10/10 experience from the moment we arrived. A special thank you to our amazing game drive guide Doreen. Doreen made our experience here even better. Doreen was very knowledgeable, professional and engaging. She made sure we looked after at all times and she handled close encounters with the animals with incredible skill, care and respect for the animals. I felt 100% safe with her and learnt and saw so much during her drives. We can’t thank you enough Doreen! Wishing you all the best Ciara and Niamh from Ireland!

Nothing. Everything was amazing from start to finish, professionalism and care of all staff was great, food was delicious, rooms, facilities and pool are amazing.

The lodge itself and the swimming pool are very nice. We enjoyed a lovely treatment at the spa. The food was nice but not 5 stars restaurant. All the employees are very kind and helpful.

This lodge is quite far from the heart of the Pilanesberg so the driving there is at least 30mn long. Even if the animals are always moving it seems that there is few of them in the lodge area. We were so disapointed about our ranger : he was more a driver than a guide : not spotting animals, afraid of elephant and unabke to switch on the side lights of the truck on the 1st evening.We only spotted animals thanks to other vehicule. No explaination on the parc itself, birds, flowers... Even questions seemed painful to him.
