Style of the hotel, lovely furniture everywhere, 4****. Breakfast was good

The restaurant (dinner) is a joke for a 4star hotel. Food according to a restricted daily menu only, and of poor quality. Just getting a salad "impossible", no wine card: just one type red or white wine in a glass, or a couple of different bottles to choose from, very basic. I also told them on departure: "the restaurant is 2**". Under-staffed, one waiter running around and often no waiter present because busy next door (!), although they were friendly enough, but I had to wait long before being served; waiter apologised that one colleague was on holiday (middle of July, high season!). My first night, a Sunday, there was a local fiesta going in the park across the road, with loud music clearly audible and disturbing in my room, music that fortunately stopped at 00:15am.

Would have liked the information about our room, in the room, on arrival. Had to ask about putting the air conditioning on. It was simple, the switch was by the side of the bed, but didn’t realise until we asked the next day. Very hot for sleeping the first night. A very dark hotel, but I suppose that tied in with the castle theme. Would have liked a nice seating area outside. It didn’t look very inviting from the back looking in.

This was the perfect place for us to stay after a long day of travel, ending with a late evening train arrival in Ponferrada from Madrid. It was within easy walking distance from the train station (even with backpacks and wheelie luggage). A completely charming hotel with fabulous staff and clean, comfortable rooms. It was also within easy walking distance to shop at the Decathlon store for last minute Camino needs (hiking poles, rain gear, etc.). Beautiful, well-maintained property!

Location suited us as we do walk and wasn't far from the Castle. Air-conditioned and very spacious room. Staff very friendly

Nothing to do with the hotel but Ponferrada graffiti is terrible worst I have ever seen in the 30 years I have Travelled.

Friendly and helpful staff. Bike storage available. Good buffet breakfast (by Spanish standards). Entertaining decorative theme.

Air conditioning is either full on, or off. It was 37c when we visited, so we had it on when we went to sleep, woke up cold, switched it off, woke up sweating, turned it back on, etc...

Location is very good

It will require a facelift, building require some maintenance. Room had Air Conditioning but it was not working. The window open provided good fresh air but also lot of noise from street traffic.

Everything was exceptionally well delivered

The breakfast was excellent. However, as I hadnt paid for it in advance, when I tried to pay on leaving, the staff seemed confused about how to handle. They were very easy to work with and I thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Tried to find a grocery nearby and I couldn’t.

Plenty of character with a good central location. Secure underground car at the rear of the hotel.

Very formal check in procedure. Was a bit noisy at night, but I suppose to be expected in a city centre hotel on a Saturday night!

It was lovely to stay in such an old building, well preserved. The hotel was well placed for the railway station.

The antiquity extended to the chairs, none of which were comfortable. The restaurant was understaffed with one person dealing with drinks and meals, and even she disappeared for a long time, so the meal was very slow.
