Hotel Dona Carmen is ideally situated just on the edge of the old town allowing easy access from the motorway and the ability to walk over the bridge into town. The car park was busy but we were able to park under a sheltered area. The rooms are basic and clean with views across the river into town. Pleasant, popular bar in the evening. Ideal stop off when heading North or South. Obvious signs of a popular Summer time outside eating/drinking area to the rear overlooking the river and town.

Sound transmission from adjoining rooms. We were under the impression that they served tapas during the evening but apart from tortilla the menu contained large (and not particularly cheap for Spain) raciones which were too large for two people. We would have preferred a selection of smaller tapas offerings.

Simple and practical for a one night stay while traveling

Staff was a bit harsh and could not help with directions or request to store very small amount of medication in refrigerator for one night. I only asked for a yes or no on this question. The staff did not speak English so communication was a bit difficult because I speak very little Spanish. I will ask before I book a reservation with Bookin.com. Also wifi did not work in the room

The food was great, staff friendly and the facilities and location faultless.

It is VERY noisy at night. People shouting and doors slamming until after midnight. Maybe they can look at making the doors "slow closing" and some signs to ask guests to be quiet after 11pm? We only stayed one night and woke up tired the next day with 7hrs of driving to do. It really spoiled the experience a bit.

Great location, easy to find and parking for our motorcycle right outside. Friendly receptionist, swift check in and a lovely room overlooking the river. Nice hotel bar and it is an easy walk to Plaza Mayor. Good breakfast in the hotel cafetería. A nice touch was a small jar of honey presented to us when we checked out.

Ideal location for us travelling on to Porto as it was just off the motorway. The room was comfortable as was the bed. It had a memory foam mattress and pillow. The bar and restaurant were great. The staff were friendly, courteous and attentive. We even got a jar of homemade honey on checkout. A very reasonably priced hotel that I will certainly use again if I'm down this direction and I highly recommend it.

The location is excellent - not too close to town but within easy walking distance. Not too noisy. Clean and comfortable with very helpful staff.

Breakfast was very basic even for a continental breakfast. Dinner could be served earlier as after a long day on the road, dinner starting at 2030 is a little bit late although I believe this is the norm for the area.

We always stay at Dona Carmen when returning to England from S. Spain (Barbate) as it is within 3 hours drive to Santander and has parking, nice rooms, good food all well priced and lovely staff. Over the years we have stayed at least 10 times.

Excellent location. Clean and comfortable. We have stayed here before and will stay again. Nice friendly staff. Menu of the day a bit iffy but breakfast fine. Liked the gift of honey, a nice touch.

Great location for a one or two night stopover and for walking up into the town. Bedroom had balcony overlooking the bridge and river. Excellent tapas and restaurant. Plus great parking.

Acoustics not very good and can hear a lot of noise from other rooms ie people taking a shower.

Did not have breakfast. Have used this hotel many times and always enjoy it. Position perfect
