The location is really quiet and you are surrounded by nature including monkeys in the trees, peakcocks wandering round the beautiful garden and many dogs of course. The pool was clean and we had it to ourselves most nights. The manager and staff were exceptional. Food at restaurant was good value and nice fresh breakfast. Lovely verandah to chill out and watch the garden. Our tuk tuk did not arrive due to elephants walking around the village which meant we missed sunrise at Lion Rock but our manager woke up specially to help find another one and the security guard waited with us as it was quite dark.

As a light sleeper there was a lot of noise especially monkeys throwing coconuts on the roof so make sure to pack ear plugs. Also the booking.com description is wrong as we thought we had 2 rooms in a villa but it was a twin room. Shower was a bit temperamental.

I was lucky to book the Vista Tree House, which is a wooden tree house at the edge of the property with maximum privacy and a balcony with views over the fields till Sigiriya rock. Breathtaking. Nature at its finest, amazing sunrises. You can enjoy them with your own coffee or tea, after you just woke from the very comfortable bed. So yes, don’t look for ultrafinished luxury here, but charming creeky wooden floors and sounds of animals at night. You are literally in a tree 🌳 But you have every amenity you need, plus the grounds have beautiful gardens, a nice pool, and super attentive staff. Dinners are a treat as well, with this chef no need to go look elsewhere! Loved everything about this place 😍

We had an amazing stay at The Hideout. A truly wonderful experience. The staff were incredible and always accommodating. Our stay was in the family treehouse. What spectacular views we had and the sounds of nature just enhanced our stay. Cool at night, comfortable beds, and very clean. A special thanks to Sue, the host, always approachable, friendly, and attentive. Also, the chef Geoff, his food, was exceptional. If you are looking for good accommodation that is near to all the local sights, including Lion Rock, then this is definitely the place to book. Allison, Richard, Wayne, and Karen

The location was unreal! Absolutely breathtaking views of the rice fields surrounding the hotel. The scenic viewpoint was the perfect place to relax with a drink or read a book while enjoying watching the peacocks. Staying in a tree house was such a novelty and a great experience, different from your average hotel room. The breakfast was lovely, just what you needed to set you up for the day. I loved the healthy porridge you got every morning. Was definitely doing lots of good for the body. The best thing about our stay was how well we were looked after by all the staff. Everyone was so warm, welcoming and friendly- going above and beyond to help us. From arranging taxis and Tuk Tuks, opening breakfast early so we could eat before we left early, to preparing a fruit box for our sunrise hike. Never experienced warmth and kindness.

I came to the hideout because it is very close to Roy’s Villa, which was full but where I could join in with different activities. This was a perfect combination: I had a spacious room and a great breakfast for a very reasonable price, while still having the social element of the nearby hostel.

The hideout itself would’ve been less interesting for me as a solo traveler as there were mainly families there and there isn’t a culture of organizing things together. There were some minor maintenance issues in my room which didn’t bother me hugely (toilet didn’t flush well, front door got stuck, there seemed to be an ant nest behind the mirror)

The owners are very nice. We were travelling with three small children and they were super helpful and always tryining to make life a little easier for us. Our girl became quite ill and we had to cut our stay shorter and they did not charge the full amount so we are very grateful!!

Be prepared to live in the jungle, lots of bugs & flying insects everywhere but nothing to be scared off. It did rain in our room slightly during a storm but stopped after a short time.

V kind staff. Great chef. Curry was not too hot. V accomadating. The treehouse was an adventure. They kindly gave me a room to rest in known as Hideout Down which was more comfortable, and had a better bathroom, when I felt unwell. This meant I could stay a few hours longer after check out whilst the rest of the family went on a trip. They are v accommodating and the food and drinks are good value.

We stayed in the family tree house (far left on the front page picture) The place was unusual and absolutely fantastic for our family of 5. I would say it is better for 2 adults and 3 children as the single beds in bedroom 2 are not so comfortable for a large adult being a bit shorter but we were all fine. The AC in the bedrooms was good enough to cool the bedrooms and the common space between. The balcony views were lovely.

We really had the most enjoyable experience staying in the Hideout. The owners and staff are exceptional. They were so attentive and helpful and we couldn’t ask for more from them. The chef is a gentleman and his food was so so good. The grounds are beautiful and so well kept, we even seeing monkeys within the grounds which was cool. I would really recommend staying here.

Exceptional!! We stayed in the tree house which even had branches through the cabin - very cool. The view was spectacular of lion rock and the rice fields. Hot shower too. Crystal clear pool and charming grounds. At night you here all the frogs and crickets even from without the room. Service was great, they even delivered umbrellas to our room before we checked out so we wouldn’t get wet.

Claims tumble dryer in room but no washing facilities on site. They did however arrange for our laundry to be collected and delivered from a local service. Watch out for the big ants, they sting and are attracted by sugar so don’t leave open food around.
