The name Tobler evokes thoughts of chocolatey indulgence; fittingly, this hotel delivers sweet experiences from start to finish! We have stayed in Hotel Tobler in Ascona a few times now and really admire the delightful family-run atmosphere, as well as enjoy its prime location overlooking Lake Maggiore. The warm and welcoming hospitality made our stay feel personalised and comfortable. The hotel’s peaceful setting, nestled amidst lush greenery, provided a serene escape with easy access to Ascona’s charming town centre. A standout experience was the delicious Torta Caprese served at breakfast—rich, moist, and the perfect indulgence to start the day. I even asked if I could have the recipe and the breakfast staff organised this so that I have a handwritten recipe form Fausto in the kitchen . A big thank you to all of the staff and I will treasure this recipe particularly as it is gluten free and perfect to serve to guests who have allergies Whilst relaxing in the spacious garden and enjoying the stunning views, Hotel Tobler blends traditional charm with modern comfort, making it a memorable stay.

Nothing at all

This is a delightful hotel in a lovely elevated position with excellent views over Lago Maggiore and the surrounding country. Plenty of car parking on site. Comfortable and well-equipped bedroom with a comfortable sitting room attached. Excellent breakfast with a very good selection of very good hot and cold food. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Very nice and impeccably clean, small indoor swimming pool. The larger outdoor swimming pool was covered during my stay at the hotel.

The only disappointment is that there is no restaurant in the hotel and there is only one restaurant with a very limited menu in a nearby hotel.

One of the standout features of Hotel Tobler is its picturesque gardens. Spanning extensive grounds, the well-kept gardens provide a serene escape . The pièce de résistance, of course, is the spectacular view of Lago Maggiore. Waking up to the sight of the shimmering lake and the Swiss Alps in the distance was a daily pleasure. The hotel's elevated location offers sweeping vistas that make for unforgettable moments, especially during sunrise and sunset. Though Hotel Tobler may not boast the grandeur of some larger establishments, it makes up for it with its genuine warmth and personal touch. The rooms, though cozy, were well-maintained and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. In summary, we look forward to returning to this charming hotel in the near future.

Very nice and helpful personnel. We expected to be able to eat dinner in the hotels restaurant, but it closed at 18:30. This was disturbing as we came by public transport and due to knee problems we could only go from and to the hotel by hotel shuttle- but this service was not available after 17:00. That tainted the good experience somewhat. We ate in our room instead sharing dinner in a restaurant for my husbands birthday.

A nice place to stay. About a 10 minute walk to the waterfront in Ascona. Hotel had great views of the lake. Good facilities and really friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast buffet excellent. Overall a really good stay

A little dated but probably adds to its charm

The location above the town was perfect, close enough to walk, but quiet with fabulous views. Our room had a small balcony with chairs, comfy bed and both a bath and shower, what more could you want? The bar/bistro/breakfast room had lovely views over the lake. We only had breakfast in the hotel, but it was excellent with a choice of cooked English style and continental. You could also eat your breakfast on the bar terrace/balcony. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and understood English. Best recommendation is we will return to Hotel Tobler.

I can't think of anything I didn't like about the hotel, except cups instead of paper cups would have been nicer with the coffee machine in the room. Also perhaps a choice of English channels on the TV? But we never watched it as we were out and about in this delightful town.

The staff was very helpful and friendly whenever we needed anything (we were a family with 2 smaller kids). Our room was very good, we had a big nice terrace with sunbeds, table and chairs, a sunshade. The food in the restaurant was very tasty.

The hotel is on a steeper hill - we knew as our friends stayed at this hotel before so in case you don't come by car, be ready for a bit of "sport" up the hill ;) There is also a shortcut with stairs. We managed it Ok with one 5y. old and 1y. old in a stroller. The restaurant has a smaller Menu to choose from for lunch (and dinner I think too) Breakfast offered a wide choice; very good and tasty.

During hot summer months if there is no air conditioning, good and efficient ventilators would be needed!

It was great for a relaxed family holiday by the pool. The pool had sun all day and we had a great time, including our 4 year old daughter.
