The property is very clean, close enough to town to walk, and the rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are small but very functional and well equipped. Wonderful water pressure for the shower. The staff is amazing and very helpful and it felt like you are a special guest. Very attentive.

Only thing is that after 6 pm, or maybe earlier I can’t recall, there is no food service available. That’s the only issue especially if you don’t have a car because you will need to walk into town to get anything. My husband and son had lunch at the restaurant and said it was delicious. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of food, but not much variety day-to-day, but that was OK with us!

The name Tobler evokes thoughts of chocolatey indulgence; fittingly, this hotel delivers sweet experiences from start to finish! We have stayed in Hotel Tobler in Ascona a few times now and really admire the delightful family-run atmosphere, as well as enjoy its prime location overlooking Lake Maggiore. The warm and welcoming hospitality made our stay feel personalised and comfortable. The hotel’s peaceful setting, nestled amidst lush greenery, provided a serene escape with easy access to Ascona’s charming town centre. A standout experience was the delicious Torta Caprese served at breakfast—rich, moist, and the perfect indulgence to start the day. I even asked if I could have the recipe and the breakfast staff organised this so that I have a handwritten recipe form Fausto in the kitchen . A big thank you to all of the staff and I will treasure this recipe particularly as it is gluten free and perfect to serve to guests who have allergies Whilst relaxing in the spacious garden and enjoying the stunning views, Hotel Tobler blends traditional charm with modern comfort, making it a memorable stay.

Nothing at all

This is a delightful hotel in a lovely elevated position with excellent views over Lago Maggiore and the surrounding country. Plenty of car parking on site. Comfortable and well-equipped bedroom with a comfortable sitting room attached. Excellent breakfast with a very good selection of very good hot and cold food. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Very nice and impeccably clean, small indoor swimming pool. The larger outdoor swimming pool was covered during my stay at the hotel.

The only disappointment is that there is no restaurant in the hotel and there is only one restaurant with a very limited menu in a nearby hotel.

The hotel's elevated location offers sweeping vistas that make for unforgettable moments, especially during sunrise and sunset. Though Hotel Tobler may not boast the grandeur of some larger establishments, it makes up for it with its genuine warmth and personal touch. The rooms, though cozy, were well-maintained and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. In summary, we look forward to returning to this charming hotel in the near future.

Very nice and helpful personnel. We expected to be able to eat dinner in the hotels restaurant, but it closed at 18:30. This was disturbing as we came by public transport and due to knee problems we could only go from and to the hotel by hotel shuttle- but this service was not available after 17:00. That tainted the good experience somewhat. We ate in our room instead sharing dinner in a restaurant for my husbands birthday.

The view was amazing and it was just a beautiful and nice hotel! We had a great experience and all the staff was very nice and helpful. We had a nice clean room and the pool area was nice as Well. We Can definitely recommend Hotel Tobler.

The breakfast was okay, but a little boring and some of the bread was a little stale.

Staff was wonderful, helpful and attentive throughout. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good though not amazing, mostly choice a bit limited. But compensated by beautiful view.

The gym is not really well equipped, weight options extremely limited.

A nice place to stay. About a 10 minute walk to the waterfront in Ascona. Hotel had great views of the lake. Good facilities and really friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Breakfast buffet excellent. Overall a really good stay

A little dated but probably adds to its charm

The location above the town was perfect, close enough to walk, but quiet with fabulous views. Our room had a small balcony with chairs, comfy bed and both a bath and shower, what more could you want? The bar/bistro/breakfast room had lovely views over the lake. We only had breakfast in the hotel, but it was excellent with a choice of cooked English style and continental. You could also eat your breakfast on the bar terrace/balcony. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and understood English. Best recommendation is we will return to Hotel Tobler.

I can't think of anything I didn't like about the hotel, except cups instead of paper cups would have been nicer with the coffee machine in the room. Also perhaps a choice of English channels on the TV? But we never watched it as we were out and about in this delightful town.

During hot summer months if there is no air conditioning, good and efficient ventilators would be needed!
