Would give 9.5 if I could!!! The hotel is full of charm and character, lovely art decor feel from walking in. We sat outside a few nights on the balcony, and it was welcoming (drinks were a reasonable price too). The hotel is outside of the city centre with no amenities close by - that worked for us being away from the hustle and bustle, but may not suit everyone. It's about 15 min stroll in and along the lakeside to get to Chapel Bridge. Rooms were comfy and bathroom serviceable. There's no air con but they did provide a fan. There's a coffee machine too - which was very much welcomed. I did request to be moved purely because it was so hot when we stayed and our room was on 1st floor at the back of the hotel. As a lone parent, I didn't feel safe having the window open all night (room looked out on parked cars/public road and felt it was too easy for someone to get in). Had it not been 35° heat room would have been liveable! The hotel staff were fully understandable, and we got to move for the last night of our stay- which was appreciated. All the staff were incredible- friendly and helpful. The girl on the desk went above and beyond to find a solution to the room situation. Our last night - we had a lake view room. OMG, it was beautiful. If we stayed again, 1000% would pick that room.

No air con - i think it would be a great investment! Not a negative from us, BUT it is up a steep hill. For some who struggle to walk, it may not be appropriate (we got 13,000 steps a day in ✔️😊)

We stayed in rooms with a balcony and lake view which was the selling point of this hotel for us and wow we were not disappointed they were definitely worth paying the extra for, waking up to the view every morning with a coffee from the nespresso machine (also a very nice touch) was one of the highlights of the trip for us. Yes the hotel is situated on a hill but this is why the view is so good and the complaints are unwarranted. It’s only a short walk from the nearest bus stop by the Casino which is free with the guest card that the hotel issues, we found this perfectly manageable with small amount of luggage. Good amenities in the room provided; free water, coffee, shower gel, shampoo, body lotion etc. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful and always at hand should you need anything or have questions or recommendations. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on this. We will be staying here again when we return to Luzern.

This is only personal preference but I thought the room (as it had been recently painted dark blue) was too dark and prefer the walls to be white.

We had a lake view room which really made it special. The room was spacious enough for 3 and the beds were comfy. Lovely traditional looking hotel, good location, near the town but not too near. We didn't use the bar or restaurant so cannot comment on those areas. The staff were polite and helpful. This was the 4th hotel on our trip and so far our favourite, the view really is spectacular. Would stay again.and recommend.

The music being played in the reception, too modern and too loud for a traditional hotel, down side of an old building you are woken by other residents movements or housekeeping. This was our downtime from early mornings so we didn't get the lazy mornings we had hoped for. But tea and pastries on the balcony overlooking the lake was a good enough trade off .

We felt like a Royal family, staying in the Royal Hotel. The Hotel was walking distance to all the places that we want to visit. The rooms were very nice and spacious. The coffee and tea machine was a real luxury included the coffee brand and tea. The bottle of water was an extra necessity which we really appreciate as it was very hot. The lake view from all 3 rooms were exquisite. I also like the space for your clothes as well as the space for your luggage. We requested 2 extra pillows, a bucket of ice and a fan for the heat, it was immediately delivered to our room. A special thanks to the young Romanian student who served us during dinner. Ryan who checked us in was also extremely kind and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful stay, with wonderful staff and a wonderful Hotel. Greetings from South Africa.

The only thing that was missing was the plug in the basin from the bathroom. That was just a small thing which didn't really bother us, except that some people might think that we took it on purpose.

The location is fantastic with wonderful views of the lake and mountains. The scenery is stunning. The bed is comfortable and fresh towels were provided daily. Breakfast was very nice with a large choice and lots of room to sit down too.

The hotel needs upgrading as it’s quite old and doesn’t smell very fresh. The only problem with the hotel is that there is no air conditioning! Unfortunately it was over 30c so we had to keep the door open to let some air in! I was advised that as the hotel is an old building they are not allowed to put air conditioning.

The location of the hotel was excellent and our rooms were facing the lake. All the staff were very kind and helpful. It’s a very beautiful hotel with a nice lobby , cheerful staff and good breakfast. Rooms were provided with both still and sparkling water every day, have coffee machine and tea bags aswell. Looking forward to visiting the same hotel again next time

Due to the location of the hotel on a small hill, the front access has stairs, may not be convenient for wheelchair access. But the staff were very helpful and even offered to help carrying our luggage at the entrance

The Royal is a lovely small hotel which sits slightly above Lake Lucerne. Most of the rooms have a usable balcony with a table and two chairs. The property is a classic turn of century European lakeside hotel. The rooms and baths are up to date. Our room was on the smaller side but had a fantastic view of the city and the lake. The property is a nice walk from the center of the old town of Lucerne. There are a few parking spaces available for a fee or you can park in the nearby Casino garage. All of the people operating are very warm and welcoming.

Overall we really enjoyed great little overnight here. Our room did not have AC but we were comfortable as its rather cool in the evening in the Aps.

The staff were super friendly and full of joy. The balcony was great with our lake room view. We enjoyed stunning sunrise and morning stars. The room was a great size, extremely clean inc shower etc. The city tax gives free buses which made travel quick and easy, although most things are walkable. We enjoyed our trip up the hill for a bit of exercise and after all that's what aids the view. The peaceful piano music was relaxing in the lobby and we also were able to use luggage storsge. We would stay here again for sure and I will recommend to others.

A lovely small hotel. Comfortable and very clean. The hotel is in a quiet location away from the centre but it’s easy to get to - I walked about 30 minutes from the station, mostly on the flat, just uphill for the last few minutes, but you can take a bus to a stop not far from the property. There is a nice view of the lake and mountains from the front rooms. I didn’t have breakfast but there is a nice breakfast room and a sitting area by reception with classical music playing. The hotel has a nice ambience and the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly.

There was no kettle/ coffee machine in the room but just ask the staff.

This is a lovely hotel with excellent lake views at the front and a lovely reception area. Staff could not have been more helpful and thoughtful. They all spoke English so well luckily for us. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes easy walk from the Old Town, but also after paying tourist tax you get a voucher entitling you to free bus journeys around town and reduced rates for cable car rides up nearby mountains (well worth while). When we asked for a kettle and some cups for our room this was quickly provided for us.

Everything was lovely. The only thing which would improve the rooms would for rooms to have kettle and drinks facilities already provided ( but they will provide if asked).
