Tembo house is architecturally a really cool hotel, with comfortable beds and 24 hour room service. It’s got multiple pools which were very clean, and a good breakfast service in the heart of stone town.

Our air conditioning broke a couple of times, but in saying that the staff did fix it which was very much appreciated. Also there are a lot of taxi drivers outside of the hotel hassling you to book with them but it wasn’t a huge deal.

The location, rear entrance was right on the beach and also easy access to the town centre from the front entrance. It is pretty much next to the Freddy Mercury musesum. We stayed in room 27, a beautiful junior suite that looked over the ocean. We only ate breakfast there but the choice was plentyful & tasted great, they have a crepe & omelette station made fresh while you wait. We also liked that while the building was renovated to modern standards they had kept the style to an authentic tradition - big chunky futniture & doorways.

There isnt anything i could find fault with this place, however i would like to mention that i had a couple of personal items taken from my room. (Shower cap, make-up remover pads, hand cream & a bottle of nail polish). Nothing of expense or what couldnt be replaced but this is theft & shouldnt be happening. I didnt complain as i wasnt aware until after we left & had unpacked our cases. However i noticed the shower cap missing on the first day but had read they have a ban on plastic bags, so this could have been removed for that reason.

The manager Abdul Aziz was very accommodating and even checked in on me and my family every morning at breakfast. He and the other staff t Tembo were excellent and delivered high quality service. The hotel itself is ideally located in old town and you can easily walk to the local market, the old fort, the palace museum and a lot of great eating spots. Additionally you can easily take a boat from the beach to Prison Island.

In terms of booking it would be nice to confirm whether the room booked is located in the main hotel building (which is shown in the pictures) or one of the other buildings to avoid misleading anyone.

Located next to a restaurant with live music every night until +-11pm (we stayed at Tulia, which is a stunning room but it’s right next to the above mentioned restaurant) So if you’re looking for a peaceful night-in- not ideal but lovely hotel

We had a wonderful stay at Tembo Hotel and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The rooms were comfortable, and clean, making it easy to relax after a long day. The service was excellent; the staff were friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with any request.The hotel’s location is perfect, with easy access to nearby attractions, restaurants, and transportation.

The rooms were clean, the staff was amazing and the location of the hotel is great for someone looking to stay in Stone Town. Breakfast was amazing.

Not a major issue, but if you're looking for more drinking water, ensure that you ask for it before they close the storage, otherwise you have to go looking to purchase bottled water.

Exactly what we needed as a family. Brimming with character, great location on the beach. Loved the old building. Staff super friendly and helpful and best breakfasts we had on our whole trip! We had the family in room in the building just over the road - huge comfortable beds, quiet, spacious etc.

Disappointed with the annex room when I arrived. I thought I had booked Tembo House Hotel. But on arrival I was asked to pay more for Tembo House hotel room. This was either confused by Booking.com when booking or hotel itself. As Tembo has few buildings surrounding it's hotel including annex.

They close the pool facility at 7pm for maintenance. That is too early because the sun only sets at 7pm and some people may want to swim. At least 9pm when people are sleeping or busy with activities.
