We had a fab, overnight, stay at Clarion Hotel (Newcastle South). Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly, professional, individual who checked us in. Her smile & hospitality was really appreciated and out-shone any service from other colleagues. The breakfast was OK although a bit dry by the time we got to it (around 8.45am in the morning) however there was more than enough to set us up for the day. Thank you.

Definitely not a complaint but just so others are aware: the gym area is quite small and we tried to use it at around 5pm in the evening and it was very busy however we were able to get into the swimming pool.

Nice rooms with comfy bed! We didn’t use the gym and pool as we didn’t have time but they were a nice to have! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were seeing a gig at the stadium or light and they provided all sorts of information on how to get there and back which was brilliant.

Breakfast was a little disappointing. We went down late (as did most of the hotel as most had attended the gig the night before and didn’t get in until late) and they had ran out of pastries and we had to wait a while until the hot food was replenished which was a shame because the breakfast was nice and good value for month.

I can not rate this hotel highly enough.. I stayed here with my Grandson while we explored northumberland. When I tell you they could not have been more helpful, friendly or hospitable is an understatement. The made a fuss of my Grandson and made him feel special, every kid loves that. We used the pool which was amazing, and clean towels awaited us when we were finished. Super clean room, super comfortable bed, and an amazing breakfast... We will for sure be back... thank you to all the front desk staff, and all the housekeepers that said good morning to my Grandson as we left.... Great Job guys...❤️

There was nothing I didn't like

An early departure due to a boat leaving the port deprived us of the opportunity to order breakfast on Saturday. The rooms are sufficient for a short stay; for a longer stay, they might be small, but they are spotless and well-equipped with comfortable beds.

The rooms are poorly soundproofed, so it's easy to wake others, especially if you get up early. There are few chargers in the parking lot, with only one having built-in cables. Unfortunately, it only has one type of plug. I didn't have my cable and couldn't charge my car.

Room was a good size, very clean and tidy, nice layout. The mattress was soooo comfortable (pillows were a bit too soft for us, but that's just personal choice). Good choice for breakfast and exceptionally helpful staff, very friendly. Perfect location for us. Would definitely stay again.

Only slight criticism was the eggs and bacon at breakfast were a bit rubbery but that is expected for a breakfast buffet when it's kept on a warming plate. However the sausages were gorgeous!

Was fab, room was lovely and spacious clean and comfortable, breakfast was good too, no complaints whatsoever. The staff were lovely and helpful too would stay again (we stayed after a function there)

Was slightly disappointed with the leisure facilities they seemed a bit tatty. The jacuzzi wasn’t working and both the sauna and the steam room had a slight stale smell of urine and a broken bench in the sauna which was a bit off putting. There was only one shower working in the ladies changing room. However the pool was nice and it was an added bonus to staying. But apart from the comments I have raised about the leisure facilities I have no other complaints. I can’t comment on the gym as we didn’t use it.

Recently refurbished rooms. Nice and modern Breakfast very good.

As guests and attending a birthday celebration the bar was closed to guests about 1am. This was despite staff being present. An excuse offered was the banking had been done. Bit odd. You would think the hotel would like to take more money from their guests. Didn’t spoil the stay

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were super clean. And the pool and hot tub were very enjoyable. Had a bit of an issue which meant we had to leave a day early but the manager was very helpful and we were refunded. Location was an easy drive to Sunderland and Newcastle which was good.

The bed was not as comfortable for us as other reviews seemed to indicate. The double bed is actually two single beds zipped together with layers of mattress protectors on top. This wasn't very comfortable for my wife and I but others may not find it an issue.

The staff were friendly and very helpful during our stay. They answered our questions and made us feel quite welcome, even going so far as to move our room to the first floor to assist with out disability requirements since the lift was unavailable for a time when we checked in. The breakfast was also good, the rooms clean, and the location spot-on.

The light switches in the room we were given were a little puzzle-like. Certain switches had to be flipped under the lights themselves before the main switches would work, but once we got the combination figured, out it we had no more troubles for the remainder of our stay. The staff were very helpful with this!

Was there for a funeral we were attending, great location, the staff were so nice and made us feel really welcome, room was exceptionaly clean, great shower and great sleep that's all I ask for, breakfast was a little disappointing asked for poached egg and it was far to hard, buffet was a bit cold, overall though we enjoyed our stay
