Having read some reviews that it was a little tired, my expectations weren't high, but I was really pleasantly surprised. My room decor didn't feel tired at all! The building is beautiful, really charming. And I really enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi and steam room. Loved hearing the water feature in the courtyard. I thought it would keep me awake, but it lulled me to sleep. The whole atmosphere of the hotel and grounds was tranquil and I can genuinely say I came away refreshed! (And that's despite it being a really busy weekend with a wedding party etc.) I loved my stay, and I will definitely go back again. Thank you.

The bathroom vents were quite noisy - I wonder if there was some echo coming from other guests bathrooms? It would be nice to have lotion in the rooms. Also maybe a box of facial tissues?

Our room was clean and comfortable. The Spa and pool were fabulous, very relaxing and calming and not busy. The restaurant meals in the evening were wonderful, they must have a great chef. The grounds around the hotel are beautiful and well kept and the location is great for exploring that area. Most of all the staff were friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was adequate but obviously not freshly cooked which would explain why only scrambled eggs are offered. My husband thought they were probably made from a packet rather than fresh eggs. There were not enough staff in the bar and restaurant and they were young, inexperienced but doing their best. A more experienced member of staff should have been in the restaurant on Saturday night and Sunday morning as the lads there were overwhelmed. Our bedroom did not have enough lighting, just a standard lamp and 2 smaller lamps. It was too dark to read comfortably in bed. The room needed a bit of TLC.

Food wasn't amazing and took a while

The property is gorgeous in a lovely location. Beautiful surroundings As a vegan who struggles to find vegan food in places. They have a great range of vegan food, there plant based meatballs are great! And we had breakfast included, was worried there wouldn’t be much of an option. But almond milk and oat milk was available. And they had some options for vegans on the buffet.

The room we stayed in was lovely, with a beautiful view. Only thing we found a bit uncomfortable was the bed, in the middle was a lump that was quite uncomfortable sometimes. But was comfortable in some places.

Having to leave x

Have had a brilliant weekend away with a friend, we were both in next of what turned into a wellness retreat. Used the gym in the morning, went for a hike over Symonds Yat in the afternoon and relaxed in the hot tub in the evening. The staff create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. We are ready to rebook

The key card trouble to get into our cottage was funny at first but frustrating towards the end. It did take us about 30 mins to get into our room after a long hike. The cards are sensitive so stop working. We spoke to other guests who it also happened too. The staff member gave us a new card immediately with no a problems .. twice

*Our room (Mountain room) was beautiful, it was big and kept to the features of the hotel style. *Breakfast was delicious so we chose to have it every morning after originally booking room only. *Staff were helpful, friendly and lovely, always available. *Spa/Health Club has superb facilities and the pool, steam Room, jacuzzi, sauna were all expertly looked after, we used it everyday, free towels to use too, pool was warm and very enjoyable *Bar area was a lovely quiet social area, just right to wind down from a day exploring or visiting places. Well done to the staff that make it such a great experience, definitely will be coming back for another visit.

The tennis courts needed some new nets/attention.

The spa/pool area was lovely. Very clean with lots of space. The rooms were very spacious and ideal for what we needed for 1 night. Clean, tidy and with a lovely view of the field behind. The bar area was relaxed and welcoming, the girls that work there were all so friendly. They made sure that everyone had everything they needed and greeted everyone with a smile.

Our room was very spacious, clean and tidy but it looked like the cracks had been filled on the walls recently and there hadn't been a chance to sand them down and repaint. There wasn't a big light, there were 4 lamps which wasn't a massive issue but would have been nice to have a big light around the mirror.

I had read some bad reviews about the place do was worried. The building is 16th century so it’s unfair for people to label the place as tired and dirty. We loved this place and had “The forest room” yes the carpet is tired and needs a refit but the room as a whole was beautiful with period features. Beautiful views from all windows. Bed was super comfortable. Food was lovely I had the Singapore noodles with chilli beef. We didn’t have breakfast with our stay. The highlight for me was the amazing pool, jacuzzi and sauna area. Absolute bliss! We will definitely return. Probably one of the more relaxing nights away we have had in a long time. ☺️

I loved the grounds and the history of the building. It is so lovely. It is going through a renovation, so the room we stayed in was pleasant and tidy but had to remind ourselves it's an old building. The staff were absolutely wonderful. Nothing was ever a bother. So friendly and accommodating. We were so lucky with the weather. There was a wedding happening at the same time as our first night, so we were worried about noise, but it didn't bother us at all. Loved the cats who also live on the grounds. We will definitely be back.

When the rooms are redecorated this hotel will definitely jump up from being a 3star.
