This was a nice basic, single room with ensuite. There was enough room so it didn't feel cramped and it was clean. The room had tea making facilities, wardrobe and drawer space and an ensuite. I only saw staff on check in and check out and they were friendly. A budget friendly stay with a great location for a short drive to the ICC.

Some areas looked a bit tired and could probably do with a repaint, it just took the shine off a little. You could hear the neighbouring room make a brew and have a chat through the walls, annoying at 6am! There was some noise from the road (not loads) and the window could do with some blackout blinds or curtains as there was a fair bit of light coming through the blinds,

There is an excellent level of service from the moment you check in. The breakfast is also excellent with food served hot and individualised needs met by the member of staff who prepares breakfast. There is a professional level of care throughout the stay and I would highly recommend an overnight stay. The cleaner is also very thorough and ensures hygiene standards are high which is especially important. There are some overused areas but the owners are working hard to renovate areas. Though there is minimal disruption to guests and every effort is made to ensure your stay is comfortable.

We have stayed at Gateway Hotel multiple times over the last few years. I can't think of anything I don't like. However, guests might like to know that the road is busy and can be noisy. If you are used to quiet locations then perhaps ask the hotel when you arrive for a quieter room. The hotel is spacious so they can locate you at the back of the building where the noise is significantly less.

The room was clean and new and set off from the main road. The TV was good, the brew facilities very basic, don't expect more than 1 cup of coffee in your room. The breakfast was nice, but no pork. So no bacon on your brekkie.

The dining room had limited chairs, some guests were turned away and asked to return later. It was also under renovation so we were sat in a bit of a building site and very understaffed. She was lovely and tried her hardest but she had alot of guests and no help. So breakfast took a long time., Our room was quite new, there was a leaky shower but a new shower fitting on airing to go on decorating the bathroom. The doors hadn't been fitted properly so once you were in the bathroom you couldn't get out without a fight.

When we arrived on time (15.00) for check-in there wasn't anybody there. We had to phone proprietor. We then waited for approximately 15mins before someone arrived to let us in. Good job it wasn't raining. We were advised by local information staff in city centre to catch a bus to the property. That was totally wrong, the bus went well beyond our destination. The next day it took approximately 10mins to walk to city centre

The staff were really welcoming and the room was spacious and clean. There was a good range of options for breakfast and I had a delicious cheese and tomato omelette that was cooked to order. The location was really handy for the centre of Newport and the train station, which I needed. The hotel staff were happy for me to leave my car while I was out for the day.

Some parts of the room were unfinished. There was a wire sticking out of the wall where clearly a light was going to be put.

Really great Hotel, decorated really well, part the way through an extensive update with modern up to date wall panels and decor. Great breakfast. Location is just outside the city centre and round the corner from the football and rugby. Would we go again -- yes we will

Parking is free however it's a bit tight for space. Didn't cause us any issues. Nothing else to worry about yesterday it's a city centre location no different than any other city!

Near to Rodney Parade for football, ten minutes very slow stroll. Very clean and tidy. Lots of tea and coffee provided, a convenient shop for milk a few minutes up the road. Location is not as bad as some reviews led me to believe. There are a lot worse I have seen and stayed in. Friendly staff and customers at the Wetherspoons nearby(Godfrey Morgan, 158 Chepstow Road, NP19 8EG)

Only the lukewarm shower, although I was probably the last person in the hotel to get up. Reception is not open all the time if you need it. Not a problem for me to check in, as the phone number given was answered immediately. Pillows are very firm, I prefer softer. Very much a personal choice, in my opinion.

Spotlessly clean bedroom and bathroom in a new part of the hotel. Very comfortable bed. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Pleasant staff.

First thing we saw going through the front door was a scruffy ripped carpet and same in Reception - poor first impression! Several things unfinished in the new extension - no rail in the wardrobe, door entry system not yet installed, unpainted plaster in hallway, broken window in bathroom. Exterior lights directed at our bedroom window on ground floor - blinds inadequate so it was like daylight!

The room was small. clean but met all of my requirements including tea/coffee facilities. The two members of staff we encounters, reception (on arrival) & at breakfast made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was pleasant, met our requirements and was ample. The hotel tariff was exceptional good value for out outlay. Finally the free carparking was a bonus,

One draw back to my room location (R3), was that due to the paper thin partition located between the corridor & bedroom door other customers who returned within the the early hours of the morning could be easily heard talking/laughing when walking past.

The Gateway saved us when our previous hotel had closed down. The reception member was helpful and accommodating, even with our last minute booking! We were welcomed and given our room with no problems. We stayed in the Family Room which was very spacious and had the most comfortable beds. The shower was great too!

The only negative was no hairdryer in the room and lots of stairs but that is all we can say. We had a lovely time so can't think of anything else! Thank you.
