Location was great. Beds were REALLY comfrotable - the best part of the room. The presentation and cleaning was good. The view was also quite spectacular. The Terrace in the restaurant adds to this - which sits above the main shopping street in the centre of newport. it had all amenties, such as good toilet, massive TV, usb charging points, (which I didn't use) as well as adequate seating. There were also things like irons/ ironing boards/hair dryers within the room. The restaurant was nice enough, The quality was good, not the best - but it WAS a good meal -better than many pubs nearby. There was also a gym, but did not use.

minor maintenance issues : shower plug hole was blocked and the air con seemed to drip or make thudding/tapping noises intermittently- I was woken up by it several times - recommend ear plugs. Restuarant was restricted/hidden and expensive. I had no other issues. None of these issues ruined my stay as such.

I thought this hotel was fantastic and exceeded my expectations. The room we were on had a beautiful view across the river and city. The room itself smelled amazing, was incredibly clean, and very modern. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom was spotless and had really nice smelling handwash/shampoo. The breakfast couldn't be faulted at all - really nice food, lots on offer, and was incredibly good value for money. The whole stay was great, we slept really well (and i'm a light sleeper), great location in relation to the train station, and for £80 odd you really won't get a better stay.

The only downside of this stay was the fact my room had a water tank or some kind of boiler directly above the door which meant it gurgled and clonked significantly (room 1014 if the hotel wants to investigate!). This will of course be room by room and is likely a one off so I didn't kick up a fuss and doesn't reflect in our review score, it also didn't disrupt our sleep as it only went off when people were using the toilet/showering, but it was incredibly loud when we woke up.

We booked the junior suite which was amazing and such a good price. The main bed was massive and my 8 year old slept on the pull out sofa bed that one of the staff made up for us, he said it was very comfy. There were 2 wide screen tvs which can connect to Netflix, I didn’t manage to connect and not sure what I was doing wrong. I only tried on the bedroom tv and not the living room tv. The bathroom was huge with 2 sinks and walk in shower which was nice and hot. Hotel is right in the centre, shops and food places everywhere which was handy. The next morning my little boy woke up feeling really ill and struggled to get out of bed, checkout was at 11 and our coach home wasn’t until 1 so I was feeling worried about having to take him out in the cold to wait. I spoke to the receptionist and she allowed us to stay in the room until our coach which I thought was so lovely. Station is about 5 mins walk from hotel. I couldn’t fault them, will definitely stay again.

The staff were really helpful, friendly and kind. The restaurant and breakfast food was really good! And worth staying in for. The options for room service and travel essentials on request is exceptional. Would always stay again.

The only thing letting the place down a small bit is the size of the bathrooms. It's a shower only, no bath, so no ability to get a nice relaxing soak. The shower itself, doesn't have a closing door, and though it is large enough for 2 people, the water does splash out of the open half of the shower, making for a wet floor that I did slip but caught myself on. There is a bath mat provided that you can put down to prevent this, which I did straight after. So, not a major issue overall. But something worth noting

This hotel is literally in the centre of Newport which is great for access to transport links, shopping and dining out. Our room was very comfortable with all the amenities we needed. We booked a table for dinner and were very pleasantly surprised! The meat was obviously very fresh, perfectly cooked and of generous portions. We really weren't expecting either the high standard of ingredients or the excellent, friendly service. Our meal was an excellent price - a real surprise! We booked breakfast. A good choice of buffet foods. No pressure to rush. Good coffee! Very pleasantly surprised with the whole visit.

Only one thing, the hot water machine in the breakfast buffet was being cleaned at 09.20 when breakfast was between 7 and 10. As a result, anyone wanting tea had to take it from a copper teapot without knowing how long it had been there.

I stayed with my friend who was getting married. Amy and Joshua who were the staff on duty were truly exceptional. They were helpful, friendly, efficient but mostly they really cared about our experience and did everything to make it truly special. They looked after the other guests in our party and even managed to keep surprise guests a secret, going completely above and beyond. They put balloons, flowers and beautiful extra touches in the honeymoon suite and totally looked after each and everyone of us with so much care and attention. They are amazing and the Mercure can be proud that they delivered a stunning service and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a really personal experience. I also witnessed the respect and consideration to other guest staying there and am blown away by their commitment and genuine sense of customer care. Thank you Amy and Joshua. You made our experience a fabulous and memorable one due to your absolute hospitality.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff who were able to accommodate our early arrival. Everything you could need for an overnight stay in the city centre & the location was perfect for visiting bars & restaurants. Only negative we could give wass one of the attractions of the hotel was the roof top bar, however on returning to the hotel in the evening for a night cap we were told the roof top wasn't accessible due to a private party being held. Ideally the staff should of informed us of this before arriving or on arrival. Other than that we would happily return :-)

No windows to allow air to flow into the room but being located on the 14th floor we could understand why. Best views are at the tippee top!!!

The hotel is in an excellent position right in the city centre, close to the bus station and within an reasonable walk from the train station. All the staff but particularly the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

I feel that there could have been more wardrobe and drawer space in the room, there were no drawers and the only hanging space was above the tea/coffee making facilities were. I realise that the hotel is probably used mainly for overnight business stays and the storage is not required but for a stay of a week there was certainly not enough. The walk-in shower in the bathroom was great but I felt that there should have been a 'grab rail' fitted just for safety of users

Very nice and new hotel, opened not too long ago. My room was spacious and clean, on one of the upper floors with a very nice view over Newport. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was an issue with my TV and they immediately sent someone to fix it. When it couldn't immediately be fixed, they offered me to switch rooms. I did not take the offer as I was only staying for one night, but thought it very nice to have the option.

Local family members told me that one area close to the hotel is a bit dodgy and should be avoided. I had walked through it, several old shops seemed deserted but I didn't have any negative experience, so I am not sure.

The room itself was very clean apart from one orange stained pasta towel and a few rubbish bits left from last guest under the bed. , I'm sure if I would of asked the staff to replace this they would have, the staff were all polite and friendly. Reception very welcoming and easy to follow. Good key fob for safety of guests, the lift can only be used with a key fob to go up and for the front door after hours. For the price I would of expected the room to be bigger for the price of a privilege room we paid for. The shower had to have a towel in the floor as the shower would not stay to the side resulting in th floor getting wet. Would stay again definitely if not as pricey as others and cleanliness is very good here.

One towel dirty. Shower could do with an extra lip. Could do with some natural air also. AC was very cold and no instructions for it.
