We were welcomed by the very friendly & enthusiastic hotel team, who have recently taken on the refurbishment of this splendid hotel. Nothing was too much trouble & we really enjoyed hearing about the fascinating history of this previous dockers pub, which once boasted the longest terracotta bar ever built. 200 pints of beer & 200 glasses of whisky would be waiting on the bar for the thirsty dock workers after a hard day's graft. We really loved learning about the fabulous Transporter Bridge , just across the road from the hotel.
The car park is accessed through an archway on side of hotel. It does require careful driving, but it is very secure as gates are locked overnight.

The staff were absolutely lovely, about 20 minute walk from the city centre and the room was lovely! Great value for money, it was a shame that the evening restaurant wasn’t available (due to refurbishments) as I would’ve loved to try it considering how good the breakfast was at only £9! The staff were also very helpful and booked a taxi for me since Ubers were not available :)

The rooms were very spacious and well appointed for the price point. Bed was very comfortable and the bedding smelt fresh and clean
Some minor height related cleaning issues, and no USB plug sockets in the rooms, could use a bit of a refresh/modernise

A wonderful family run business. Made me feel so welcome. Helped with getting me taxi's, made sure I had clean towels. The stained glass windows were gorgeous. My room was modern and clean. The shower was amazing.
If you don't like traffic take ear plugs. But the traffic dies down at night. So wasn't a problem for me.

The room was very spacious and clean with high quality carpet.
1.Noise from traffic in the mornings. On one of the windows, the inner of the double glazing panels was missing, hence some poor noise filter 2. It's a struggle to get into the car park. The entrance is very narrow.

I arrived earlier than expected and the owner couldn't check me in straight away because the room wasn't ready, and he had workman everywhere as he's in the process of refurbishment. Despite this he didn't keep me waiting long and upgraded my room to a huge bay-fronted one overlooking the transporter bridge. Shame the bridge was also being refurbished as you can't currently see it working. The road was noisy, especially at rush hour but this didn't bother me, it was quiet enough when sleeping and the room was worth it. The owner was very helpful arranging take-out meals (no kitchen during my visit), the beer was lovely and Sky Sports in the bar - what's not to like? Great location for Newport Docks, characterful old building which promises to be even better when the refurbishment is completed. The old terracotta bar is wonderful, I bet it could tell some tales! The owner (Raj) was very helpful during my stay.
It would have been better had the kitchens been working, but I'm sure it will be better for guests when the work is completed. The availability of good take-out food was really useful. If you have a room at the front expect some road noise, the hotel is on a busy junction - however it is quieter overnight and didn't bother me at all whilst working during the day.

Well situated on Coastal Road, opposite tourist attraction, Transport Bridge, Newport, Wales. Owned by lovely family who are polite and friendly. Sincere welcome & true hospitality. Tastefully decorated with original features lovingly retained, (Art Deco stained glass windows, lighting, ceramic tile panels, inlaid mosaic flooring, Victorian building with ornate carved wood etc. Sash windows supplemented with effective secondary double glazing creating well lit, warm, cosy atmosphere. Ample space & comfort provided for individual need. (Accessible for those with disabilities -free car park (securely gated overnight), ramp, lift, choice of rooms with walk in shower. Attentive staff on hand to supplement requirements). Dietary needs considered, ordered food provided fresh, (Bistro not yet open to public). Small bar if one would like to socialise with more than enough space to extend into larger lounge, (could be cordoned off for private functions
Nothing to dislike!

The location was perfect for being not too far from the railway station and the venue we went to for the party we attended. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, sorting taxis etc. We were also invited to a buffet during the evening but unfortunately we were attending a party elsewhere so couldn't go. The bar was lovely too.
If I had to be really picky it would be to say that the towels were a little tired and some of the decor needed a spruce. We had a good chat to the owner who has only been there for around 12 months and is refurbishing the restaurant so I am sure the minor issues will be sorted in time
