The location to the centre of Aberystwyth is perfect, especially for walking to and from local restaurants at night. The host of (Helmsman) the guest house gave us a warm welcome and directed us to our room, perhaps also realising we had travelled for a few hours and needed a rest, so the welcome was perfectly managed. The room was great, we paid a little extra for a sea view, where we sat with a glass of wine and enjoyed our people watching. We later went to a restaurant for our Saturday evening night out. Despite being a beach front location, there appeared to be little noise. We hardly heard any passers by or traffic, despite having the window open slightly. A good night's sleep was had and I could hardly believe the night's sleep soon lead to breakfast time. Fresh coffee, juices, toast and a cooked (Welsh) breakfast set us up for our morning of activities before our journey home. We checked out with a nice pleasant conversation with the owner, who made us feel one of the family. We will only consider this guest house for future visits to Aberystwyth !

The toilet seat was wobbly and needed attention. But didn't spoil our stay. WIfi was poor and the QR code doesn't integrate with all devices !!!

Its position, friendly host, clean… It’s a proper, old fashioned, seafront front guest house, with lots of original features. Though we didn’t have a seaview, the room was light and airy.. and the bathroom was spacious, with a big window. Parking on the prom is time restricted during the day, but directly behind the hotel, easily accessible through an alleyway, there is unrestricted street parking…

I did let the host know about feeling and hearing the springs in the mattress… she said she would check and get it changed if needed. We liked the bathroom, but it lacked a towel rail (there was plenty of space) and a shelf to keep our toiletries…

The location is amazing just looking out of the window to the sea regardless of the weather the view is so beautiful. The room itself was lovely. Loved the decor and the modern bathroom. The owner of the hotel was lovely. We didn't see her much as we were room only so didn't have breakfast in the hotel but she was a lovely lady. Would definitely come back again.

The mattress wasn't to my liking unfortunately but that's no fault to the hotel as its personal preference. It was just too soft for me with someone with back issues and sciatica I could of done with a harder mattress. Unfortunately the gentleman who was in the room next door to us was coughing every few minutes and the coughing was very loud and intense! It became quite unbearable especially at 7am but again that is to no fault of the hotel.

Sea view was stunning, and the location couldn’t be better. Bed was extremely comfortable - luxurious sheets, pillows and duvet. It was so quiet - just the sound of the waves. Lady I saw was friendly and helpful, and very kindly let me leave my bag early and late - couldn’t have been more accommodating.

It’s not that I didn’t like this as such - but it gave me a dilemma and I wasn’t in a position to ask for advice! The notice in the bathroom said it had a saniflow system so nothing was to be flushed (followed by a long list of things not to be flushed) except natural waste and water. The list didn’t say toilet paper… so I wasn’t sure if it was like a Greek plumbing situation or… I was being overzealous!!!!

I loved the homeliness of it all! The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was AMAZING! The best mushrooms I have ever tasted. I have stayed in a few guest houses in Aber over the years and this is by far the best. You walk out of the main doors and there is the beach. It’s far enough away from the pier nightclub so it is quiet but close enough to everything you would need. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We didn’t have a sea view room but the room we were in was amazing anyway. There is nothing I can fault with the room.

Really loved the location, the bathroom was massive and had useful items such as cotton rounds and ear buds. Appreciated the darker make up flannel so no concerns about reuining the sparkling white ones. Plugs by bedside and 2 huge comfy lounge chairs in the rooms.

No parking- the front sign on the front of the house says car parking but no where to be found and only when in the room does it say where to park in the welcome booklet (a pay and display located near by) which was too late by the time we got there as we had to park elsewhere. I had called the b and b a few times to ask where to park and no answer.

Great location and served our purpose.

The saniflo was very loud. The shower rose was fine, the water pressure was excellent. Unfortunately, because you couldn't adjust the water pressure, the shower tray filled up very quickly and as such , you had to turn off the water and stand in the shower, all soaped up, and wait for the level to go down....not pleasant.

When we arrived, the owner greeted us and explained that there had been an issue with the room we had booked - an upgrade was not going to plan - she was very apologetic and let us know that the room we had still had a sea view and said that she would give us a small refund and throw in breakfast too! The room was just fine! Lovely and clean, great view, toiletries, coffee, very quiet and very comfortable! Breakfast was lovely too! We would have no issue with booking again!

Nothing not to like!

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were able to leave our bag before check-in + leave it after check out so that we could explore the town properly. We spoke briefly with the new cleaner, who was very helpful and polite, and our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean! A great location on the seafront with a Sea-view room !

The Helmsman is a lovely property on the sea front. We had beautiful sea views from our spacious bedroom window. The room was spotlessly clean with a very comfy bed and lovely new ensuite. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The property is just round the corner from many shops, cafés and eating places.

The only negative was the lack of parking, but a pay and display is just round the corner at the clinic which suited us fine.
