We arrived at the royal oak, staff was straight away very polite, and there to help. They got us booked in -even upgraded our room to a king size suite for free , showed us to the room and let us settle in. Bed comfy to sit and lounge but felt slightly hard to sleep (nothing like ur own bed though) but definatly not a bad point. It was still comfy enough. The only down fall I would say as we retired to bed we popped the tv for a short while the distance of the tv to the bed and the size of the tv it was difficult to watch but we managed. But the room it self was amazing , clean and tidy extra pillows in the wardrobe, complimentary hot choc, coffee, kettle and hair dryer in the room , clean towels- great pressured showers. Moving on to the food WOW! 👌 The food is amazing we arrived on burger night -Thursday , burger( wide variety) and chips and pint/drink £13 , can't get better than that. The staffs service was brilliant so welcoming and polite couldnt do more for you. Our stay also included breakfast in the morning, I have to say was one of the nicest breakfast iv ate out for in a long time . Hats off to you royal oak, your stay was great, thank you , we will definatly recommend and come back . P.s plenty of outdoor seating and spacious carpark

Friendly staff, great location, lovely food both in the evening and at breakfast. Stayed in room 3 which was a very good size and clean with a great shower. Lots of extra tea, coffee etc in the room.

The reception on the TV was terrible and channels glitched constantly so we couldn't use it. We were aware that staying over a pub would mean some noise until 11.30 - midnight or so which we were ok with, however without a functioning TV we were left only listening to the pub noise which was frustrating and not particularly relaxing prior to sleeping. A small aerial booster would help I'm sure. Mattress could also do with replacing as we could feel springs in places.

Great traditional English pub. Food was excellent both in quality and value for money. Hosts were super and very helpful, because I left very early before breakfast they did me a splendid pack up instead which was very much appreciated. We so need to support these village pubs, far too many have been lost so it’s great to see this one is still here, and doing such a fantastic job.👍

A biscuit to go with the coffee in the room would have been nice, but hey if that’s all I can find wrong I’d say well done to you!

Great location, large private parking area. Easy access to a number of footpaths for exploring locally and a good base for days out in the area. Hotel staff were excellent and very helpful. Room was spacious and our dog was made welcome. All meals were well presented and plentiful as well as tasty.

Difficult to find something for this box but if I were to be really picky I would say the bed /matress was a bit creaky but we slept well.

Great location on the outskirts of Ashbourne. All the staff were excellent and the breakfast and dinner in the pub was superb, good value for money. Nice double room and the ensuite was lovely and clean. Good size tv in room

The carpets were not good and not very clean. Our room was okay but not vacuumed well. The pub carpet was filthy. No vacuuming done before breakfast so the carpet was full of dropped food from the day before

All the staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. Food delicious but if you don't have a huge appetite, then I suggest you go for the Smaller portions!!! Great range for breakfasts, all freshly cooked to order, again very large quantities! Shower great, bed very comfortable.

Place looks a bit tired, and a fresh lick of paint would do wonders, BUT, if they vacuumed through the whole place , it would look SO much better.

The breakfast selection was excellent. Good food, cooked perfect and hot. Friendly service. Looked after us perfectly.

The automated light and fan in the toilet was good but the fan stayed on for too along at least 25 minutes or more so when up in the night it takes a while getting back to sleep with that noise from the fan. Someone (resident ) above room 3 going to bed at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning rather loud.

Beautiful, cosy, warm hotel in a beautiful location. The room was huge with an equally large bathroom with a lovely big bath. The bed was super comfy and even though it is on a main road, we didn’t hear a thing. The staff were really friendly and welcoming too.

Little bit disappointed with my food. The chicken was cooked well but the sauce was a little bland and so were the veggies.

Very welcoming throughout our stay, staff were amazing, friendly, helpful despite the restaurant and bar being so busy every evening. Food was very varied with huge proportions, there was a fish night, a burger night, the restaurant was so popular. But the staff coped so well. Also very good value for money indeed.

Some traffic noise but never intrusive.

Staff were super friendly even when it was very busy in the pub, they did their best to see to everyone. Food portions in the pub and for breakfast were huge

Quite noisy overnight. We stayed on a Friday night and the music in the beer garden was blasting till 2am. If it hadn't been so hot I'm sure the windows would have done a good job to drown it out. Could do with a fan in the room for hot days
