Everything about our stay was wonderful. The hotel is located on an island and access is determined by tide and weather conditions. The hotel reception team sent us clear and concise guidance regarding our arrival arrangements. We were greeted, land-side, by the lovely Richard who whisked us across the causeway whilst giving us a brief history of the island and hotel. As we alighted our transport, we were greeted by Simon who showed us into the Palm Court, offered us a refreshing drink and chatted with us about the hotel, our reason for our visit and told us something about himself. After 10 mins or so we felt very much part of the Burgh Island family. Our suite (Amy Johnson) was beautifully appointed, the public rooms (Palm Court, Grand Ballroom etc) are true to the art deco era and the island and surrounding seascape were stunning. The weather was kind and we sat, with a G&T, on the terrace overlooking the Mermaid Pool. We took a delicious light lunch in the Palm Court and retired to our suite for a rest before dressing for dinner in The Grand Ballroom. The food was delicious, wine perfect, staff and service 1st class and the 3 piece group entertained us with wonderful ‘old time’ numbers which were perfect for the setting. After dinner, we moved back into the Palm Court for coffee and a wee nightcap. Breakfast was served in the Nettlefold restaurant where we had a fab table overlooking the sea. The staff and service were once again 1st class. After checking out. We were once again whisked across the sands to our car, our luggage was transferred back into our vehicle and we headed home. We thoroughly recommend Burgh Island Hotel for a different experience. One of old world charm, glamour and a very laid back atmosphere. If you’re thinking of going. Book it. You won’t regret it. Thank you to everyone at Burgh Island Hotel for making our stay special.

Amazing place to stay, really unique. Fantastic views. The staff were all attentive and welcoming. The pub on site, The Pilchard, had great food and service too

The Nettlefold restaurant. We had to wait an hour and 25 minutes after ordering for any bread to come and then 1 minute later our food came. Both the starters and main courses were very underwhelming and we didn’t go for dessert as we had lost the will by that time! We saw other tables wait a long time too, and one walked out. Hopefully this was just one bad night! The spa wasn’t operational and there was no advance notice of this which was a shame.

Authenticity, location, and in general the service from staff was very good !

A few minor but irritating points that would have made the break perfect. Name spelt incorrectly on welcome card. Evening meal, side order of vegetables were overlooked and brought out, after being reminded, part way through meal. Replacement face cloths not provided on second day; had to request. On second night during Turn down visit, used crockery was left in sink by housekeeper.. All minor items but could be overcome with a bit more attention to detail.

From the minute we called to say we were near to the car park, the staff were exceptional and made us feel very welcome. Assistance with parking, moving luggage and bags to the meet and great at the hotel front door.

Being there for 3 nights was wonderful, I would have like more selection of the main food menu in the evening. Having said that the food was extremely well presented and exceeded our expectations. The piano music played during dinner would be better if it was more of background music as it was a little loud sometimes, making it difficult to communicate easily with each other.

It was a unique experience that lived up to our high expectations. It is a wonderful Art Deco building with many original features throughout. The 2 tiered lounge is especially lovely, with its stained glass domed roof. The staffs attentiveness was exceptional from the start. From the Manager, Vlad, Director of Guest Relations, ensuring our stay started perfectly, being met at our car on the mainland and ferried over with our luggage by Richard. Thanks also to Simon, Robin and all the other staff for making our stay so memorable. The Black Tie dinner and jazz band was super fun, with cocktails and canapés in the lounge beforehand. A bracing pre-breakfast morning dip in The Mermaid Pool, with it’s amazing sea views was unique experience. Also, a unique experience was the sea-tractor over to the mainland which was great fun. Really felt the Agatha Christie vibe, especially in our amazing bedroom suite with Art Deco furniture and stunning views. An utterly memorable experience.

There was nothing to not like.

Utterly fabulous. It's a step back to the Art Deco era, from the moment you arrive you are treated by staff who obviously enjoy their work, the food is first class and the whole experience is total class. The cocktail bar is the centre of activity particularly when the ballroom comes into its own on black tie nights. The beautiful and unusual setting of its own island is unique and adds to the experience. Obviously not cheap but this isn't a hotel stay, this is an experience! Worth every penny!

Nothing whatsoever! They have got the whole experience spot on!

The attention to detail in the decor and surroundings is spot on. The staff were attententive but not over bearing and were willing to assist whenever approached. The food is excellent and locally sourced wherever possible. A ride on the Sea tractor is a must and also gives a different view of the island and the surrounding area.

The only downside was the maintenance work which was being carried out. We had been warned about it prior to attending and was assured the scaffolding wouldn't spoil our sea views from our suite and to be fair it didn't as it stopped short of our windows but it did spoil the overall look of the hotel The only issue was when the workman were erecting the scaffolding on the roof above us the noise from the ratchet guns drove us out our suite for a couple of hours. Hopefully the work will ensure the hotel is looking its best for a future return visit.

The Hotel was Wonderful. The dinner superb. Our stay for our 25th Silver Anniversary was memorable and great to share it with our family from New Zealand. We all had a wonderful time. would LOVE to come again.

I am a sea swimmer, and really was looking forward to the Mermaid pool, the natural bay, to swim there. It was closed off to the public. So very disappointed about that. Also after an exhausting long journey from Hastings, and a broken back car windscreen, I just wanted to get to the rooms ASAP. Then dip in the sea. Which I did when the tide came in in front of hotel, about an hour later. We had a very lengthy talk from your guest coordinator, the minute we arrived, when all I wanted to do was rest and swim....... I think the "Talk" could be moved to at least an hour or so later "AFTER" having moved into our rooms. We also ended up taking our own luggage as waited for ages, for it to be brought up.
